She answered him in a soft voice that escaped her despite herself:

“Good morning, Uncle…”

And there, she swallowed the bitter lump that had formed in her throat at the memory of that word—the word she despised more than anything in the world, even more than Nader himself. She wished she could erase it from the alphabet forever, but in the end, she forced herself to say it, as though she were dragging bitterness from her throat rather than uttering a mere word.

“Good morning, Uncle Murad… I wasn’t doing anything. I simply didn’t notice you.”

He glanced at the time on his phone, then stepped down one stair and playfully pinched her cheek, treating her like one of the children in the house rather than a nineteen-year-old young woman.

“All right, beautiful. Come on. The sermon is almost over, and don’t forget to pray too.”

He walked away quickly, taking the remaining steps in hurried strides before she could even answer him.

“All right, my dear,” she murmured to herself.

Her steps slowed behind him, as though she were afraid to cross the distance between them—as though coming any closer might betray her eyes, which knew nothing but stealing silent glances at him.

She watched him with a longing that threatened to overwhelm her.

His broad back. Those strong, straight shoulders that spoke of a man carrying the weight of his days upon them. They seemed even more pronounced beneath the loose white galabeya he had chosen for Friday prayers. It reflected a simpler, more carefree version of him, one that only intensified the rugged allure that shattered her heart whenever she looked at him.

The white against his body was more than a mere color; it was a halo surrounding him, lending him an air of solemnity that seemed to belong to another world.

The folds of the galabeya fell softly over his shoulders, accentuating the masculine lines of his frame, as though they had merged with his very presence to announce a man who embodied masculinity in its purest, most unpretentious form.

His confident footsteps had a rhythm of their own, making a faint sound against the floor, as though every step carved a mark into the ground—and an even deeper one into her heart, which had known no peace since the day she came to know him.

It was astonishing how he could bring together two completely different worlds.

When he was a businessman, dressed in his impeccably tailored suit, authority seemed to be an inherent part of him. His elegant suit, enhanced by its silver buttons and a tie perfectly coordinated with the colors of his attire, reflected a man who commanded attention wherever he went. A man who spoke the language of numbers and plans, a man of such stature that everyone around him felt they were standing before a leader who was not to be underestimated.

Those moments stole her heart every time.

Yet she had never realized that her heart would become even more defenseless when she saw him like this—in that simplicity that belonged to the world of the old neighborhood.

In that white galabeya, he looked handsome enough to frighten her for the sake of her little heart, as though his simplicity added a radiance that no luxurious clothes could ever achieve.

Her mind drifted back to all the times she had seen him dressed differently, but she realized now that this simplicity was the one that affected her most.

She followed the graceful flow of the fabric over his body as though it were a carefully painted portrait, watching how the movement of his body beneath it revealed a masculine strength that needed no proof.

The shape of his shoulders. The slight curve of his back whenever he spoke to someone or leaned down to fix something. Even the way he stood, as though the ground beneath his feet belonged to him alone.

How could such tiny details become so devastating?

She suddenly realized that she was standing there, frozen in place, while he continued moving ahead, completely unaware of everything happening inside her.

Warmth crept into her face, not because of the sunlight filtering into the alley, but because of her thoughts.

How could the sight of a man’s back beneath a simple galabeya stir such an overwhelming amount of longing and passion?

She tried to gather the scattered pieces of herself, but those details showed her no mercy…

She felt as though she were drowning in a sea of emotions, a sea from which only the steps that kept her at a safe distance from him could save her.

Yet, deep down, she knew that no matter how hard she tried, that distance would never protect her from his effect on her—an effect that stretched across time and space, keeping her heart captive to him, always and forever.

"God forbid, Madam. But what were you doing like that? Were you eavesdropping on Mr. Murad?" She covered her mouth with her hands, nearly dropping the coffee tray, and whispered so quietly that she was barely audible: "Eavesdropping? Me? No, I was just... I saw a cockroach walking across the office door." "A cockroach? What cockroach? We just sprayed the place about a week ago! Where did that cockroach come from? I have to tell Mr. Omran. It looks like the company that sprayed the house cheated us. They took a fortune from us." She sighed in annoyance at the talkative woman, wishing she could hit her for all that pointless chatter. "Enough, Umm Mohammed! You're going to expose me. Never mind what I'm doing. Why were you coming here? Who are these coffees for?" "They're for Mrs. Nancy and Mr. Murad." A wicked idea suddenly formed in her mind. Someone, please restrain her criminal imagination. She smiled mischievously and took the tray from the maid. "Give them to me. I'm goi

. She tried to pull his hands away when the pain became unbearable, but he kept his eyes fixed on her. His eyes had turned into a dark, almost black void that seemed capable of swallowing her whole. "So there is someone? And I wonder who that unfortunate man is—the one fate has placed within my reach..." Finally, she managed to yank her arm free with force and anger, shouting at him: "Nader, can you stop interfering in my life already? Now get out before someone sees us like this!" She gestured toward herself as she said the last sentence, clearly referring to the fact that she was wearing almost nothing. He gave her a burning look before turning around and leaving the room, slamming the door behind him in frustration. She exhaled loudly, as though she had just emerged from a battle. She collapsed onto the bed once again, then eventually got up, put her jacket back on, and left the room. Maghrib was indeed being called. She had slept far longer than she realized. For a mom

. "Nader" stumbled backward from her abrupt movement, his hands still suspended in the air after he had been playing with her hair. She stared at him in horror before hurriedly pulling the blanket over herself, her nerves finally snapping as she shouted: "Have you lost your mind, Nader? How could you just walk in on me like that? What's wrong with that brain of yours?" "What happened? Why are you freaking out like that? You look as if you've seen a ghost." "You're impossible. I swear to God, you're impossible." For the second time that same day, she threw the exact same words at him. And for the second time that same day, he smiled at her with that unbearably smug smile, as though her words were declarations of love rather than insults. She continued breathing heavily, cursing him with the worst insults in her head. One day, he was going to make her die of a heart attack. She could not understand what could possibly be going through the mind of this idiot. She placed her he

Then she turned toward "Nancy", dragging her into the conversation whether she wanted to be involved or not. "Radwa is actually a really good writer. She's talented at writing thoughts and poetry." "Nancy" raised her eyebrows with genuine interest this time and asked sincerely: "Really? Can I see what you're writing, Radwa?" "Radwa" hesitated for a moment, lowering her eyes to the notebook she held as though it were a shield protecting her from the world. How could she hand over a piece of her heart, represented by her words, to someone she felt such hatred toward? But she soon gave in. She quietly extended the notebook toward "Nancy", her movements hesitant, as though she wished she could take it back. "Nancy" took the notebook gently, as if she were handling a precious treasure. She looked at it for a moment before opening it and flipping through the pages, her eyes moving over the carefully written lines. A genuine smile appeared on her lips. "You're really the one who w

Why not? She was his cousin. They had grown up together since childhood, and beyond all that, they genuinely shared a great deal of intellectual compatibility. She was calm, composed, and sensible to an almost absurd degree. She worshipped her work as if it were her entire life. She was intelligent, well-educated, and, to make matters even worse, close to him in age. She was twenty-eight, while he was thirty-one. Only three years separated them in age, whereas she was a full ten years younger than the other one... To him, she was... a child. Damn it. She was going to cry. And after all that, she was actually beautiful. She had a slender, feminine figure that she took great care of, a tall frame, coal-black hair, and large black eyes framed by thick lashes. Her lightly tanned skin only added to her allure. She truly radiated temptation. But she saw herself as the complete opposite of that. She saw herself as nothing more than a clumsy frog, utterly useless in life... taking up spa

"Nancy" had been living in Alexandria and working alongside "Murad" at their import-export company for nearly two years. She had always excelled academically, and after graduating, she trained at the company. Before long, she proved her competence and was hired permanently. Ever since then, "Murad" had barely been able to do without her. She worked alongside him every step of the way, especially considering how exceptionally talented she was at her job—as he was always so fond of saying. From the way he spoke about her, "Radwa" could sometimes sense how proud he was of her and of everything she had accomplished. She could only hope that was the sole reason. Because if there were another reason... Well, she would certainly be making headlines. "Woman Sentenced to Prison After Killing Another Woman with a Nail File." And here, you may decide for yourselves exactly who that unfortunate woman would be. "Murad" resumed speaking, making sure she understood: "I'll send th
