Donavin's POV

"Mr Prescott is here."

The announcement travelled through City Centre Hospital before I reached the director's office.

When I stepped out of the elevator, two employees hurried out of my path. Another held the door open without waiting for me to ask.

I didn't acknowledge either of them.

The hospital smelled of disinfectant, but someone had sprayed a floral fragrance over it, making the mixture unpleasant.

"Mr Yates's office," I said.

"Yes, sir. This way." The receptionist led me d

Donavin's POVMercer's apartment was smaller than I expected. One bedroom, one window, and a kitchen table with a stack of hospital bills on it, sorted by date and weighed down with a mug. Kai was already going through the drawers. “Nothing in the closet, sir. No passport. No cash.”“Phone?”He held up a cheap black phone in an evidence bag. “Wedged behind the fridge. One number was saved on it. Just the letter D.”I dialed it from my own phone. A flat voice answered. The number you have dialed is no longer in service.I stood in the middle of that small room and looked at the bills again. Showing whatever that he did, it was due his mother. And knowing this made the part of me that wanted to crush him hesitate. We kept him in a locked room at the back of my downtown estate. It wasn't a cell. It was a room with a table, two chairs, and a window painted shut. I ruled Manhattan, and keeping one person locked up was a piece of cake. Mercer sat very straight with his hands flat on the

Isabelle's POVMy room looks nothing like the medical suite I'd stayed in before. The bed was wide, with soft cream sheets and several pillows arranged neatly against the headboard. There was a small sitting area by the window, a wardrobe large designed to hold more clothes than I owned, and a private bathroom. The following morning, after taking my bath, I went downstairs to look for him.“Mr. Prescott is in his study, Miss.”vA we can't noticed ne glancing around, and spoke up.“Thank you.”I was directed to the student located on the second floor. Quiet, spotless and a plaxe where I watched the servants back away from.“Miss, the fifth door is the study”.I nodded, swallowing the question I almost asked.“Mr Prescott”. I knocked, but there wasn't any response.“Mr Prescott. Are you in there?” I knocked again. And this time, the door opening from the inside startled me so hard I almost fell forward. Donavin stood right in front of me, expressions locked in.“What are you doing here

  • A match for the tycoon    Chapter 48: Let's see if I'll stay

Isabelle's POVWhatever this was, I have to discuss it with Donavin. He didn't tell me I'll be coming back here tonight. Because I wasn't planning on going back. The ride back to the penthouse was quiet.I sat by the window, watching the city lights pass by as the driver made his way through the streets. It was my first time seeing the building at night, and when the car finally pulled up, I couldn't help staring at how magnificent it was.Thinking that the penthouse looked even more impressive under the night lights. It must be so good living a rich life. I couldn't even afford to rent a single apartment of my own.I stepped out of the car and followed the driver inside. A few servants were waiting when I entered, and they immediately greeted me with polite bows.“Welcome back, Miss Hart.”“Ah… thank you,” I replied, feeling slightly uncomfortable with all the attention. Was this how they usually do over here? Even some royalties do not deserve this kind of attention. Because it wa

Isabelle’s POVChloe’s voice chirped through the speaker the moment I picked up.“Isabelle. Are you insane? Where have you been? It’s been almost two days since I last saw you. You didn’t even come home or call me. You’ve been unreachable this whole time.”“Chloe,” I said calmly. “Where are you?”“Going to work,” she answered. On the other end, I heard the sound of lights being switched off. “I’ll see you when you're back. I have something to tell you.”“Okay.. ” she trailed. “But are you safe?”“Yes”. I replied. “Then I'll wait for you”.At evening, the old servant came back downstairs and found me in the sitting room, pacing around.“Miss, why aren't you resting in your room?” she asked.“I’m fine.” I gave her a weak smile. “Dinner is almost ready”. She announced.“But can I go home once I’m done with dinner?”“I don’t know.” She looked at me skeptically. “Why not wait for the boss to come back? He rarely comes home, but with you around, I bet he won't stay away for long today.”

  • A match for the tycoon    Chapter 41: He's surprisingly good to me

Isabelle's POVI woke up to the soft rustling of curtains and the faint sound of footsteps outside the room.I tried to stand up, and the dull ache of my body reminded me that I hadn't quite recovered from everything i had gone through. I rested a hand over my stomach, remembering the doctor's words as I tried to reassured myself. My baby was fine. And that was all that mattered.I slowly pushed myself up against the pillows, my eyes wandering to the bedside post.My phone. I had lost it that night. I had no money to buy another one even if I wanted to. Guess I'll have to remain like that for now.And as for Chloe, I wondered how many times she'd tried to reach me. She must have been worried, especially after I didn't return home for two consecutive days.“Miss Hart?” A maid pushed the door open. “You're awake”. Her smile was polite."Good morning, miss.""Good morning.""I hope you slept well.""Much better than yesterday.""I'm glad to hear that. Mr. Prescott asked us to make sure

  • A match for the tycoon    Chapter 40: We found the culprit

Donavin’s POVThere was too much to look into, and too many questions I needed answers to.By the time Kai walked into my study, I had gone through the same document over and over again.“Sir, we've confirmed the bus was rented through a shell account.”“Were you able to find out who actually did it?”“We're still tracing the account, but the details were deliberately hidden. So it might need a bit more time.”“Okay”. I rubbed my temples. “Anything from the man Marcus caught?”“He's still claiming he doesn't know who hired him. He said he received instructions through an intermediary and was paid to take the woman. And he was simply doing his job.”“How about the person who hired him?”“He claims the person who did was wearing a mask so he couldn't identify him.”“Keep working on it” I said. “We need to find everything.” Even though I was now able to narrow everything down do one path, which was city center, I still needed solid evidence.“Yes, sir.” He responded, and left. I sat th
