Lyra's POV

I honestly thought the meeting, trial or whatever would have been called to an end after the last verdict had been ruled. A small part of me had thought and wished that it would be nothing but a sick joke or a cruel prank, but apparently, mother nature had other plans for me.

It was one thing that the council had even brought up that suggestion in the first place, but it was another thing that Xavier actually agreed to it. I wanted to say I was surprised or I didn't see it coming, but I knew I would only be lying to myself if those words ever slid past my lips.

Right now, Xavier’s hands itched for blood, and I feared that the council just might have given him what he was looking for. I planned on asking, begging and pleading that he would change his mind, but even the council didn't want that to happen either.

It'd been quite some time since they gave the verdict, but every one of us was seated here while the council members did their thing. The chamber reeked of sm

  • A night with my ex-husband’s step brother    Chapter 80

Xavier’s POV Time seemed to slow to a halt all around me. For the next couple of seconds,, believe me when I said that no soul moved, or even breathed. It was almost as if the moon goddess had put a pause to everything happening all at once, but why she had done that, I had no idea. Was it to mock me, and rub my obvious defeat in my face, or was she doing me a favor by granting me a couple of minutes worth of silence before everything eventually came crashing down on me. My head was spinning, and the full throb that had spread around wasn't helping matters one bit. It only worsened it, a d deep down I wouldn't be surprised if I died from the fucking pain in my head before Xander's blade even touched me. The dirt was cold against my back, grit grinding into my skin through the split seams of my armor. My chest heaved, each breath a ragged pull, and the metallic taste of blood coated my tongue. I didn't remember Xander striking me that hard, or at all even, so why the fuck was I b

  • A night with my ex-husband’s step brother    Chapter 79

Xavier’s POV The priest’s voice boomed across the arena, deep and ceremonial, but I could barely make out the words. No matter how hard I tried to focus, I just couldn't. His words swam around me like echoes in water, heavy, distorted, and it also didn't help thst thry soumd like gibberish in my ears. Or worse, a foreign language even. Whatever was wrong with me didn't stop there. It extended to other parts of my body. My tongue felt thick in my mouth, and my pulse was erratic, like it was going haywire, just so ot foyld collapse when i least expected it on the duel ground. What was this? What the hell was going on? The rules of the duel, something about honor, about the goddess’s judgment, and not drawing blood unless it was required, barely touched my ears. They brushes past me the way flies brushed past things didn't interest them. The only thing that was worth mentioning, was probably the pounding of blood against my skull. My chest burned with each breath, and my limbs, my

  • A night with my ex-husband’s step brother    Chapter 78

Lyra’s POV The ceremonial grounds were nothing like I had imagined. In all the time I'd spent in the palace, I wasn't sure there had actually been an event that required me to ever come here. Whispers and stories of the place had been told, but believe me when I said that no e of them actually came close to the grandeur I was currently witnessing. The grounds were larger, grander, and every corner draped in banners that bled red and silver in the light of dawn. Those were the official colors of red moon, and while they swore it meant unity in diverse peace and strength, the only thing I saw was blood being spilled by the contestants, and I hated how my mind was quick to narrow it all down. At the end of the duel, there could only be one option, and outcome. Someone's blood was going to be shed, and it was either going to be Xander's or Xavier's. The worst part of it all, was the fact that I wanted none of their blood to be spilled. Couldn't they just shake hands and hug it out a

  • A night with my ex-husband’s step brother    Chapter 77

Lyra's POV In all my life, I always thought myself to be audacious, at least to an extent, and with everything I'd been through, I honestly thought nothing, absolutely nothing could surprise me anymore. I guess it was my fault I underestimated the moon goddess' prowess when it came to humbling me or putting me in a tight spot, because it happened every time, but somehow, and for some strange reason, I never learnt my lesson. Time seemed to slow to a halt as I stared at the man in front of me. He wasn't standing directly or too close to me, but the way his shoulders tensed and with the deep frown etched into his face, I just knew my greatest fears had been confirmed. Not only had he seen us, I could bet my life that he'd heard every single word Xander had let out. But, I can't be that sure,, right? I tried to convince myself. I tried to convince myself that maybe, just maybe I'd misread the situation and maybe jumped into a conclusion I shouldn't have, so I did the only thing

  • A night with my ex-husband’s step brother    Chapter 76

Lyra’s POV The air in the corridors of Redmoon was heavier than stone, and I hated that I could easily attribute it to the bad aura the so called fight had caused. While the candidates involved probably saw it as a good thing and were probably looking forward to it, I wasn't. In fact, if I had mysl way, I would have shut the whole idea down the minute it had been brought up. While that sounded easy, I just knew it would have been futile had I tried to challenge the council. They barely saw me as worthy to be in their presence, so I doubted they would even have listened to me. I was this close to going ballistic when I headed to Xavier’s room, and how did it end? He'd finger fucked me and there's was little to nothing that I'd done to stop it. I wasn't sure which was worse,, the fact that my body had failed me, or the satisfaction that had washed over Xavier's face after seeing me come undone. The smirk on his face wasn't one I would be forgetting anytime soon and I just knew he

  • A night with my ex-husband’s step brother    Chapter 75

Lyra’s POV I couldn't see the spot next to me as I marched down the hallway, but I wouldn't say I was the least bothered about that. Why? Because I had much more important things on my plate, like confronting the man who was just about to make a single decision, that was bound to affect all of us. Every space around me buzzed with humans, each and every one of them doing something. While a good number of the servants I'd passed had work to do, the others, had made it their sole responsibility to disperse whatever had been discussed in the council to the others that weren't exactly privileged to get the information first hand. “Did you hear?” I caught a snippet of conversation from one maid I passed. “this week is definitely going to be an interesting one.”“The alpha and his step brother are going to fight.” “And the winner takes it all.” All of this and more were the kind of things I heard with each corner I rounded, and I would be lying if I said the comments didn't make my
