I looked across the table at my mate and smiled.
For a moment, I simply watched him.
Joss was completely absorbed in his coffee, blissfully unaware that I was studying every detail of him. The familiar curve of his smile. The way his dark hair fell across his forehead. The relaxed confidence in the way he carried himself.
My heart filled with warmth as I continued to study him.
Four years. That was how long we had been together leading this pack.
Four perfect years.
I silently thanked the Moon Goddess for bringing him into my life. She had gotten it right when she gave me Joss as my fated mate.
He was everything I could have ever wanted in a mate.
He was strong, handsome, loving and, most importantly, he was mine.
As though he could feel my eyes on him, Joss looked up.
A slow smile spread across his face when he caught me watching him.
“What are you grinning about?” he asked, his voice carrying the teasing tone I loved so much.
“Nothing," I replied.
I gave him a casual shrug, hoping to hide just how ridiculously happy I felt.
Joss narrowed his eyes playfully.
“Right.”
I laughed softly.
He shook his head before taking the last sip of his coffee. Then he stood, carrying his empty mug to the kitchen sink.
“Okay, I have to get going.”
He turned to face me.
“I’ve got a meeting with another pack this morning, and then I need to speak with Sam and Tori about the arrangements for the pack party.”
He crossed the room and leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss against my temple.
“Have a good day, my love.”
“You too.”
I watched him walk away.
A moment later, the front door closed.
And just like that, the house fell silent.
I sat there for a moment, staring at the door.
Then I looked around our home.
Everything was beautiful.
Expensive furniture filled the rooms, carefully chosen decorations sat exactly where they belonged, and sunlight streamed through the large windows, making everything seem almost dreamlike.
This was my life.
My perfect life.
For the past four years, everything had been perfect.
Joss was the Alpha I had always dreamed of.
Our pack was strong and prosperous. Our members lived peacefully, everyone had their place, and our warriors were some of the best trained in the region.
There were no major conflicts.
No threats.
No reason to fear the future.
I had a loving mate, a beautiful home and a pack I was proud to call my own.
I honestly couldn’t have asked for more.
As far as I was concerned, the Moon Goddess had blessed me beyond anything I deserved.
I had everything.
I had my mate.
I had my home.
I had my pack.
I had the perfect life.
At least, that’s what I believed.
Because sometimes, the most dangerous lies are the ones we tell ourselves.
And I had no idea that the perfect life I had spent four years building was about to come crashing down around me.

I finished getting ready and made my way toward the main pack house.
Joss had asked me to help with the preparations for the upcoming party, and if he wanted an extravagant celebration, I was more than happy to make it happen.
I had barely reached the pack house when I ran into Tori, the Beta’s mate.
“Arielle!” she called with a bright smile. “How are things?”
I smiled back.
“Oh, you know. Another beautiful day in paradise.”
Tori laughed.
“Yes, it certainly is. We are very fortunate here, aren’t we?”
“We sure are.”
I believed those words completely.
At the time, I had no reason not to.
We walked into the pack house together before going our separate ways.
I headed straight for Joss’s office.
I didn’t bother knocking.
I opened the door and stepped inside.
Joss was sitting behind his desk, surrounded by paperwork.
The moment he saw me, his expression softened.
“What are you doing here, my love?”
“I came to help you plan the party you’re throwing for the pack.”
His smile widened.
“Well, I’m glad to hear that. I could definitely use your flair and skills when it comes to party planning.”
I laughed.
“Whatever help you need, you’ve got it. You know that.”
“That’s what I like to hear.”
He picked up another document and glanced over it before looking back at me.
“And remember—money is no object.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Are you sure you want to say that to me?”
Joss chuckled.
“Absolutely.”
He leaned back in his chair.
“Make it spectacular. I want this to be a party no one in the pack ever forgets.”
I smiled.
“Oh, they won’t.”
Joss returned to his paperwork, seemingly satisfied that the arrangements were in capable hands.
I watched him for a moment.
Then I turned toward the door, already planning everything in my head.
If Joss wanted extravagant…
Then extravagant was exactly what he was going to get.
I had no idea that this party would become the beginning of the end.
And that before the night was over, I would discover that my perfect life had never been as perfect as I thought.
ArielleThe moment Joss finished speaking, the room erupted into whispers again.I couldn’t listen anymore.Every word seemed to cut deeper than the last.Second mate. The phrase kept circling through my mind.Joss had another mate.Another woman who could feel the same bond I had once believed belonged only to me.I stood frozen beside Tori, trying desperately to hold myself together. Then Joss started walking toward me.My heart immediately began pounding. He stopped in front of me.“Arielle.”I couldn’t look at him.He gently reached for my hands.I allowed him to take them, but I didn’t return the gesture.“I’m sorry.”I swallowed.“I know.”“I never wanted this.”“I know.”“Nothing has changed between us.”That finally made me look at him.“Nothing?”His expression softened.“No.”I stared at him.“Joss, you just stood in front of our entire pack and announced that another woman is your mate.”“I know.”“And you’re telling me nothing has changed?”“Our bond hasn’t changed.”“But y
JossI barely noticed the music anymore. The party was still going on around me, but my mind was somewhere else entirely.Arielle was standing with Tori on the other side of the ballroom.Clare was nearby. And I was caught between them.I had spent the last few minutes trying to convince myself that there had to be another way. Some way to keep this from becoming what I knew it would become. But there wasn’t.A hand landed on my shoulder.I turned.Carlos.“We need to talk.”I nodded.Carlos glanced around the room before lowering his voice.“You need to tell your pack.”My stomach tightened.“About Clare?”He nodded.“Yes.”“I was going to.”“When?”I didn’t answer.Carlos sighed.“Joss, your pack deserves to know.”“I know.”“They’re celebrating tonight. They’re happy. They trust you.”“I know.”“Then you owe them the truth.”I looked toward Arielle. She was talking quietly with Tori. Her face was still pale. She looked nothing like the woman who had been laughing only an hour ago.
ClareI watched Arielle from across the ballroom. She was standing beside Tori, but her eyes were on me.Good.At least she understood now.I wasn’t going anywhere.I had spent the last few minutes listening to everyone around me talk about Arielle. How beautiful she was.How perfectly she had planned the party. How lucky Joss was to have such a wonderful mate.Every compliment had irritated me more than the last.Because none of them seemed to remember one important fact.I was Joss’s mate too.His second fated mate. The Moon Goddess had chosen me for him.Yet somehow, everyone looked at Arielle as though she were the only woman who mattered.I couldn’t accept that.I wouldn’t.I glanced toward Joss.He was still watching Arielle.Even from across the room, I could see the love in his eyes. That was what hurt the most.It wasn’t the bond.It wasn’t even the fact that I was second. It was the way he loved her.The way his entire expression changed when he looked at her.The way he had
ArielleFor several seconds, I couldn’t breathe.I stared at Joss. His words kept repeating inside my head. She’s my second fated mate.No.It couldn’t be true.I’d heard the words.I understood what they meant. But my mind refused to accept them.A second mate?Joss already had a mate.Me.I was his mate. His Luna. His future. His everything. At least, that’s what I’d believed.“You’re joking.”My voice came out barely above a whisper.Joss’s expression broke my heart. He looked devastated.“No, Arielle.”I pulled my hands from his.“Then tell me you’re lying.”“I can’t.”My chest tightened.“Tell me this is some kind of mistake.”“It isn’t.”I stared at him.Around us, the party continued.Music played.People laughed.Glasses clinked.Couples danced.Yet somehow, it felt as though the entire world had stopped.“It's her... isn't it?” I asked him quietly.Joss hesitated and that hesitation hurt more than anything.“Clare," he stated.I repeated the name silently.Clare.The woman wh
