OLENA

“Z-Zinnia,” I whispered, wide-eyed as I leaned toward her, “you’re fat-shaming her.”

She didn’t even blink.

“And she’s slave-shaming us,” she shot back without missing a beat.

That’s Zinnia for you.

She reminded me so much of Chloe, the same fire, the same fearless mouth. But Zinnia had chosen the right side.

“If I had the chance, I’d spit it right in her fuckface,” Zinnia hissed, her eyes locked on Thalia, full of venom.

I nudged her quickly, lowering my voice but making sure she heard me.

“That’s enough,” I warned, glancing around nervously in case anyone overheard. Zinnia didn’t need more trouble.

She just sneered.

At the front, Thalia’s voice rang out again, loud and proud like she was delivering a royal decree.

“Our Lady Morgan, right here—” she gestured toward the dais.

I turned just in time to see Morgan smiling, her lips stretching wide as she sat tall and still, perfectly posed like a queen who already had her crown.

  • ABRAHAM — The Lycan King   64. The barrier.

ABRAHAMYeah, I missed her. Zubat did too, fluttering around like he was searching for her scent, crying out for the warmth of her hands. I missed teasing her, that spark in her eyes when she’d snap back. But damn, I still didn’t regret smashing that ugly necklace she wore like a curse. If I ever saw it again, I’d burn the damn thing to ashes, grind it into dust with my boots.“I stopped Charles from entering the castle,” Kane said, his voice low.“Why?” I snapped, turning to him so fast he flinched. My fists clenched on instinct. Olena had run. She was right there, and she slipped through my fingers because of him. I was so close. Fury crawled up my spine and coiled behind my teeth. I wanted to slap the reason out of him.“I apologize for being rational,” Kane muttered, lifting his chin like he meant it but barely meeting my eyes.“Get out of my face,” I growled, stepping toward him. “And show her her new room.”He lowered his head, spine stiff, and turned without a word, footsteps f

  • ABRAHAM — The Lycan King   63. Two options.

OLENA I tried again with same plate, same dish, same hope that maybe this time, it would be okay.I stood to the side, eyes fixed on him as he scooped a bite and chewed slowly, dramatically. Then he shook his head, lips pulling tight.“Either something’s missing, or too much,” he said, waving his fork like it had personally offended him. “Or maybe I’m allergic to one of these.”The frustration boiled up before I could stop it. My shoulders locked, breath catching in my throat.I slammed the plate down harder than I meant to.The sharp clatter cracked through the hall.I blinked fast, refusing to let the tears spill, even though they clawed at the back of my eyes. My hands curled into fists at my sides. I was tired, so tired and nothing I ever did seemed to be enough for him.He leaned back in his chair, eyes widening in mock surprise, like I’d just stabbed him.“Jeez,” he said, pouting his lips. “Are you trying to harm your king?”I stared at him, jaw clenched tight. I wish it would

  • ABRAHAM — The Lycan King   62. Gift.

OLENAThere he was, lounging on a wide leather couch like the throne of a god, his legs casually propped on the table before him. He wasn’t even looking at me, back turned, but he still knew I was there. Of course he did. He could probably smell my fear, my confusion… or the ache I kept trying to swallow.I sighed quietly and began walking toward him, each step echoing louder than the last. My heart thudded in my chest like a warning drum.I didn’t know what he wanted. But I knew better than to keep him waiting.“You called for me,” I said quietly, stopping a few feet from him.He didn’t answer right away. He leaned back on the couch, head tilted, one arm draped lazily over the side. A cigarette burned between his fingers, its smoke curling upward in slow spirals. His chest was bare, rising and falling with a calm, steady rhythm. When he finally looked at me, he exhaled, right in my direction. The smoke hit my face.I turned my head, blinking through the sting, but I didn’t say a word

OLENA"Why has no one given me a proper explanation?" I muttered, dragging the last pile of trash into the waste bin.My shoulders ached, and dirt clung to my skin like a second layer. The punishment wasn’t even the worst part, it was what that witch had said. You’re the chosen one to save the Lycan King. The words echoed in my head.I let out a sharp breath and wiped the back of my hand across my forehead. Sweat and grime mixed, stinging my eyes.I made my way to the far side of the slave quarters, where the old tap creaked against the wall. I grabbed the handle and twisted hard. Cold water sputtered, then flowed steadily.I shoved my hands under it, scrubbing like I could wash off more than just the filth, like I could scrub away the confusion too. The stink of rot and old food clung to me, making me wince. The water stung the cuts on my knuckles. I didn’t stop.Neither did my thoughts. What mission? What gemstone? Why me?None of it made sense. And no one was giving me answers.I w

OLENA“In front of Morgan, you had the guts to bully a slave? Of course you’re going to be punished.”That’s what Thalia said to me.No questions. No chance to explain.Just a sentence thrown to me and now here I am, picking trash around the slave quarters like some criminal. For what? For defending myself from Ava?Rubbish. The injustice burned in my chest as I bent down again, fingers brushing against torn cloth and broken glass, jaw clenched so tight it achedThose girls, Morgan’s girls, they walk around untouchable. I just wished that someone would just bring down their shoulders and inflict pain on them so that they would feel what they have been doing to others. They get away with everything, and no one ever calls it what it is.Privilege.Not the kind that comes from strength or honor but the kind that feeds on the weak, that thrives on cruelty. And I never, ever wanted that kind of power.I’ll stay a normal person even if it costs me everything.I sighed, brushing the dirt fro
