Chapter 103

The revelation and truth

DARIUS

I looked towards the hut, half expecting to see it destroyed, the bombs discovered and removed.

But it stood intact, looking exactly as it had yesterday. No signs of disturbance.

So they knew about the attack but hadn't found the bombs? That didn't make sense.

Unless they wanted us to come. Unless this was exactly what they'd planned.

The realization sent ice through my veins, but there was no turning back now.

"Hold positions!" I called out. "Watch

  • ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    The Accusation

Chapter 119Darius POVThe main hall had been set up for a formal dinner. Long tables arranged in a U-shape, with the head table elevated slightly on a platform. The visiting Alphas were already assembled, talking amongst themselves whilst waiting for the meal to begin.I took my seat at the center of the head table, with Torren to my right as always. Lance positioned himself to my left, too close for comfort but not inappropriately so.Sebastian was standing at the corner of the room, positioned where he could reach me quickly if needed but far enough away to not be obtrusive. He was in his formal guard uniform, standing at attention with his hands clasped behind his back. Our eyes met briefly across the room. I saw the tension in his shoulders, the worry in his expression. He'd probably heard the rumors too. Probably knew that pack members were gossiping about us.I looked away before the connection could linger too long. Before anyone watching could read anything into it.The maids

  • ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    The rumors

Chapter 118Darius's POVThe whispers started the next morning.I heard them as I walked through the corridors of the pack house. Quiet murmurs that stopped abruptly when I appeared, only to resume the moment I'd passed. Hushed conversations behind closed doors. Speculative looks from pack members who quickly averted their eyes when I caught them staring.Something was spreading through the pack. Some kind of rumor or gossip that had everyone talking.I was making my way towards my office when I passed near the maid quarters. The door was slightly ajar, and voices drifted out into the corridor."I'm telling you; I saw the way the Alpha looked at him during the meeting," one voice was saying. Female, young, probably one of the newer maids."But Sebastian is just a guard," another voice responded. Older, more cautious. "Why would the Alpha be interested in someone like that?""I don't know, but there's definitely something going on. The way he defended Sebastian when that Northern Alpha

  • ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Perfect week

Chapter 116Lance's POVAfter the feast, Darius finally stood from the head table and gestured for me to follow him. His expression was carefully blank, giving nothing away. But I could see the tension in his shoulders, the tight set of his jaw.He was uncomfortable. Good. That meant my little display had gotten under his skin.We walked through the corridors of the pack house in silence. Pack members we passed bowed their heads respectfully to both of us, though I noticed their eyes lingering with curiosity. Word of our reunion had clearly spread already.Darius stopped in front of a door and pushed it open. "You'll be staying here."I glanced inside. The room was spacious and well-appointed, clearly one of the better guest quarters. A large bed dominated the space, with a sitting area near the window and a private washroom visible through another door."First room accommodations," I observed with a smile. "How thoughtful of you.""Don't read into it," Darius responded flatly. "It's s

  • ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    Lance, the Alpha rival

Chapter 115Lance PovThe moment I saw him standing there at the front of the pack house, my heart did that familiar skip it always did around Darius. He looked exactly the same. Maybe a bit more tired, perhaps. Lines around his eyes that hadn't been there before. But still commanding, still powerful, still devastatingly handsome in that stern, unapproachable way of his.Darius stood with his arms folded behind his back, wearing a black wool cloak that made his grey eyes stand out even more. His sword was sheathed at his side, ready for use even at a formal greeting. That cold, stern look on his face—the one that made most Alphas nervous—was firmly in place. But I wasn't most Alphas. I'd seen beneath that mask. I knew the man who existed under all that control.I dismounted from my horse with deliberate grace, taking my time. The gathered pack members watched with curiosity as I made my entrance. I waved to them, smiling warmly, playing the role of friendly visiting Alpha to perfection

  • ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    My former lover

Chapter 114DARIUS I'd shifted partially in my sleep. My wolf had taken control and bitten my own arm, the pain trying to wake me from the nightmare. The door to my chambers burst open. Sebastian stood there, his face pale and worried."I heard screaming," he panted. "Are you—" His eyes found the blood on my arm and went wide. "Moon Goddess, what happened?"He rushed forward, moving towards the bed. Towards me.And something in me snapped. Before Sebastian could reach me, I was up and moving. I grabbed him and slammed him against the wall, my hand around his throat."How many times do I have to tell you to stay away from me?" I growled, my voice distorted by the partial shift I hadn't realized I was still in. "Stay away before I lose control."Sebastian stared up at me, his eyes wide with hurt, confusion and something that looked like heartbreak."Darius," he whispered. "Please."The sound of my name on his lips made the bond surge again. Made every instinct I had scream to pull him

  • ALPHA'S FORBIDDEN MATE    It's no longer a secret

Chapter 113DARIUS I tried to act normal after the incident with Sebastian. Went through the motions of being Alpha—attending meetings, overseeing patrols, reviewing reports. But my body had other plans. It started with a fever. Low at first, barely noticeable. Just a slight warmth that made my skin feel tight and uncomfortable. But within hours, it had spiked to the point where I was shaking with chills despite sweating through my clothes.Todd was called immediately. He took one look at me and ordered everyone else out of the room."How long has this been going on?" he asked, pressing the back of his hand to my forehead."Since this morning," I managed through chattering teeth. "It's getting worse."Todd pulled out various instruments, checking my pulse, my breathing, my reflexes. But I could see the concern growing on his face. This wasn't a normal illness. Then the hallucinations started.I'd be sitting at my desk trying to work, and suddenly I'd smell Sebastian's scent. That di
