My Duty

" Why didn't you attend the lunch with us? Everyone was waiting for you!"

I sit down while our current Luna, my mother, speaks. She does not seem like she is in the mood for a serious conversation, based on her tone.

" I had an important work to attend!" Reaching for the cup of herbal tea that my mother's beta had served, I said.

" Are you still trying to find your mate? Look! You still have Eliza waiting for you. She doesn't want to find her mate because of you. You ought to be considerate of her emotions." Muttering, my mother reaches for a napkin.

" Also we all wish you to accept the royal lineage of the pack rather than finding some random girls. You are not permitted to date anyone who is not a member of the Royal family." She declares,

" Mom! Would you please?" I let out a sigh.

" As Dad said I will attend the succession. However, you must be aware that Dad has another wife who has children. Brother Denial's son is on his way to get his throne. I have no desire to inherit the throne or anything else. I will take care of my own affairs instead of interfering with Pack's affairs."

That being said, I am not the legitimate heir to the throne. There is no way I could have been born into the Thompson family if my mother had not seduced my father. So it's better to stay away from family conflict.

" Jacob Thompson!" With disappointment, my mother roars. "The role of Alpha must be inherited by you. You are the strongest Alpha with a pure-blood gene. You deserve more than that stupid son of your elder brother!" She announces, her eyes are red with determination.

"That does not concern me. I am handling your business. That's enough for me. So please, keep me out of this family dispute. I will concentrate on my own business! Enjoy your day! Mother."

Declaring that, I left the packhouse. My stepmother, the former Luna, and my father's relationship soured after my mother was given Luna's position. My presence is what has added even more poison.

However, I have no desire to become embroiled in their problems. All I want is to have a family on my own family. Since I found my mate. It is all going to work out.

But...

I was mistaken when my father, the pack's Alpha King, called me in his private packhouse. I wanted to check my mate who was transferred to my apartment since I don't trust the nurses who can expose her presence with my pup.

In the packhouse...

After placing the pawn of the chess another square, Alexander Thompson, the Alpha of the Nartha Noel Moon Pack who is my father, looks at me.

" Jacob! I heard you are not interested in having any mate." He knows yet he repeats the same question whenever he thinks I am doing something that is mostly unacceptable to him.

"Whatever you are thinking, I do not care." His eyes are on me, cold and hostile, "However, I want to warn you. You can only choose Eliza to be your Luna, or no Luna at all. I vowed to her father—my Beta, second in command—that I would permit his daughter to be my son's Luna! Prepare yourself, then, to reject whoever ends up being your partner."

He declares. Eliza is considered the most beautiful Omega she-wolf in this pack. Also, in my point of view, she wasn't bad either untill we celebrated our seventeenth birthday.. She had a shy personality but was a social butterfly. However, she changed overnight, like someone- Whatever, she is not my type. Probably I just don't want to resolve my world around those people who are favoured by my parents. Eliza is one of them who I never took fancy about.

" Dad! You are exaggerating. This is my life and - I found"

" Jacob!" My father presses the knight while his eyes are on me with icy gaze.

" Don't forget the promise you made on your succession day. It's me who gave you the freedom and it's me who can take it away. Because your mother is currently Luna. I don't want to poke my nose but... I am not leaving you alone. You must serve the pack as Thompson!"

Seems like I can't disclose the matter of my mate and my child right now. All can I do is see what happens. I won't let anyone hurt my mate and my child. And no woman should be in my life at all.

" Let's change the boring matters about you. I know you are intelligent. You know what you are supposed to do and what not." He threatens with his wise words.

"Xavier has returned home. His succussion day will be held around this month. So I want you to attend the party with Eliza. She can't be circled by some rubbish Alphas and being harassed., And..." He pauses, before grabbing a file...

" I think you should know about it. Since it's your mother's homeland!"

My mother's homeland is not our friendly neighbour. Honestly speaking, My Mom is a traitor who seduced my father to take some hidden information about our pack. But she got pregnant with me and had to stay here.

She first showed that she was forced to get pregnant, but my grandparents eventually realized that, for power, she sold the biggest secret of their pack and became the Luna of our pack. Not to mention, Our pack holds the biggest and strongest Army with two Gamma Generals and thousands of active, strong Beta Warriors. So having the power system of our pack means you can do anything. And my mother couldn't abandon such greed.

And, I know what my parents want from me. Return to that pack where she was supposed to rule and claim it as mine. But...

I am not interested in ruling the pack or destroying anyone.

Anyway, I am intrigued by the papers that my father, the Alpha of the pack gave me.

" Princess Ran away?"

the last line of the file intrigued me more. It's said, that the friendly neighbour, Arizona Blood Moon Pack held a wedding between their princess, An Omega She-wolf and my mother's homeland, a barbarian Wolf pack's Prince, the current Alpha of Barbarians.

But she ran away leaving a letter behind on her wedding day.

I can't blame the princess. There, the massacre is considered a legal and powerful action. They treat either Omegas as sex slaves, violence, hunting Omegas and other activities are welcomed and encouraged. They hold the ancient mentality that wolves were crazy for blood and killing.

" I want that princess for my second son. I heard she is a pure breed! She will be perfect for your second brother!"

So he wants me to find that girl for my brother who has a wife? He is already mated to his destined mate.

" Sorry! I refuse." I places the file on the table, "As I said, I will concentrate on your business, Dad. I am not going to be involved with the family matters! Please excuse me!"

I said defeating him in the chess. No matter what I will never involve myself or anyone who I adore in this fucked up family.

" Are you refusing the Alpha's order?" He growls at me.

" Yes. If you want me to behave like a member of the pack, then, Alpha!" I look at him, straight in his eyes...

" I am assigned as the CEO of Thompson Company! My only duty is working for your company. I am not obligated to search for some princess who has every right to find her freedom and caged her with your married son!"

" Jacob Thompson!" My father growls, his eyes are on fire.

" Please excuse me!"
