Chapter 4

작가: Ashfall
“My reputation is ruined. I’ve lost my boyfriend. I’ve lost my job. You owe me.”

I whispered, barely able to get the words out, “Owe you… how?”

A sharp glint flashed through Aileen’s eyes. She turned to the camera and announced loudly, “I want you to marry me! Since you ruined me, you’ll be responsible for me for the rest of my life!

“And you’re signing all your assets over to me—as a wedding gift! That’s what you owe me!”

I almost laughed from sheer anger. Aileen did not just want to destroy me; she also wanted to drain me dry.

Unbelievably, the live chat erupted in applause:

[Perfect punishment! Make him grind for the rest of his life to pay for it!]

[Aileen is savage! That’s exactly how men like this should be dealt with!]

[Say yes! If you don’t, let him rot in prison!]

Aileen stepped closer and lowered her voice, “If you don’t agree, I’ll make sure your parents get hit by a car the moment they step outside. I know where your family lives. I even know you’ve got a younger sister still in elementary school.”

My pupils shrank. Family was the boundary I would never allow to be breached, and she had just crossed the line.

A rage I had never felt before ignited in my chest. She wanted to play? Fine, I would play along.

I took a deep breath, turned to the camera, and forced a weak smile.

“Okay. I’ll marry you. I’ll get discharged from the hospital right now. We’ll go get our marriage certificate.”

Aileen froze for a moment, clearly not expecting me to agree so easily. Then, ecstasy flooded her face. I ripped out the IV, bit back the pain, and swung my legs off the bed.

“Let’s go. To the city hall.”

I wanted to see what her expression would look like when we got there.

Aileen was afraid that I would back out, so she warned me, “Let’s see how long you can keep pretending when we get there! Use your real identity when you register!”

She kept livestreaming the whole time, hauling me to the city hall like I was some kind of criminal.

On the way there, she chatted cheerfully with her viewers.

“Yes, we’re going to get married right now. He’s a piece of trash, but for the sake of my reputation, I’ll just have to suffer a little.

“Thank you, top gifter, for the Porsche! I’ll make him work to pay off our debts after the wedding!”

When we arrived at the city hall, the lobby was packed. Crowds had gathered because of the online controversy. Some were even reporters who had caught wind of it.

Aileen slammed her identification documents onto the counter with her chin raised high.

“We’re here to get married.”

I placed my ID and registry beside hers.

The clerk was a middle-aged woman with glasses. Her gaze flicked from Aileen to me, analyzing us both. Her expression turned strange.

“Are you two certain you want to register for marriage?"

“Yes! Absolutely!” Aileen snapped. “Hurry up, the whole internet is watching!”

She shoved her phone toward the clerk. “Ma’am, please move faster. Let’s not miss the auspicious timing.”

The clerk shook her head helplessly. She picked up my ID and swiped it through the reader. Then, she looked up, slid the card back across the counter, and said flatly to Aileen, “This can’t be processed.”

Aileen’s smile froze. “Why not? Is the system down? Does he have a criminal record? I don’t mind!”

The clerk pointed at my ID, then at Aileen.

“According to the marriage law, marriage requires one man and one woman. You’re both female. This marriage can't be registered.”

The gavel came down.“The defendant, Aileen Hayes, is found guilty of false accusation, extortion, and harboring a criminal organization. Due to the multiple offenses, she's sentenced to 12 years in prison, deprivation of political rights for three years, and a fine of half a million dollars.“The defendant, Nelson Mullins, is found guilty of intentional assault and provoking trouble, and is sentenced to five years in prison.“Both defendants are ordered to jointly compensate the plaintiff, Casey Gray, for economic losses totaling 1.28 million dollars.”At the sound of the verdict, Aileen’s eyes rolled back, and she fainted. Nelson slumped into his chair like a pile of mud. He muttered under his breath, “It’s over… It’s all over…”As I stepped out of the courthouse, reporters surged toward me.“Ms. Gray, how do you feel right now?”“Ms. Gray, are you satisfied with the outcome?”I pulled my baseball cap down, blocking the harsh sunlight. Beyond the crowd, I saw my parents and m

“Otherwise, that younger sister of yours, the one in elementary school, might not make it home safely one day after class.”It was the same old trick, using my family to threaten me.My gaze turned icy in an instant. It felt like my blood was on fire.Aileen had threatened me. Now, these people were doing the same. Did they really think I was someone they could push around?“Who’s your boss?” I asked.“You don’t have the right to know,” the man sneered. “All you need to understand is this. Crushing you would be as easy as crushing an ant.”“Is that so?” I suddenly laughed. The smile on my face was strange, almost unsettling.“Then do you know why I deliberately left the door unlocked tonight?”The three men froze for a second. The next second, the wardrobe door in the ward burst open. Plain clothes police officers stormed out with their guns raised. The black muzzles aimed straight at the group.“Police! Don’t move! Drop your weapons!”The truth was, ever since Aileen threate

“Doesn’t matter. There are no cameras anyway… Nelson’s an idiot. He’ll believe anything I say…”The audio was crystal clear, and the video quality was razor-sharp.Every word landed like a slap across Aileen's face, as well as the faces of everyone who had joined the online witch hunt. The crowd erupted.“Oh my goodness! She’s vicious!”“That’s pure evil.”“And Nelson deserves it too. He picked a woman like that and helped her ruin someone else’s life!”As Nelson listened to the recording, he looked like he had gotten his soul sucked out of him. He collapsed to the floor. He knew it was over. Not only had he been cheated on and infected with a disease, but he had also become a national laughingstock and now faced prison time for aggravated assault. All for a woman who had played him like a fool.I looked at the two of them and felt nothing but cold satisfaction.“Aileen, Nelson, this is just the beginning.”…The days that followed were eventful. Both Aileen and Nelson were

“Also…” The doctor glanced at Nelson. “I’d suggest this gentleman get tested too. It’s highly contagious.”Nelson’s eyes instantly turned red. He fixed a murderous glare on Aileen.“Three months… Aileen, didn’t you say you were on a business trip to Shor three months ago? You… You went to sell yourself, didn’t you?!”Aileen stumbled back, terrified.“Nelson, please, listen to me… It’s not like that… It’s a misdiagnosis! Yes! It has to be a misdiagnosis! I love you, Nelson! How could I ever betray you?”She reached out to grab his hand, but Nelson slapped her across the face with brutal force. The impact sent her flying into a bench in the hallway. Blood immediately trickled from the corner of her mouth.“Bitch! Trash!” He went berserk, raining blows on her with fists and feet. “I treated you so damn well! Gave you every penny I earned! And you used my money to support some pretty boy? You brought back a filthy disease to ruin me?!“No wonder you’ve been refusing me lately. You w

This time, the police did not give Aileen the benefit of the doubt.“That’s enough! If she’s a pervert, the hospital will prove it!” It was the same officer who had taken my statement that day. He looked at my battered body with a mix of guilt and anger.“Casey, don’t worry. If this turns out to be a false accusation, we won't let it slide.”We were escorted to the city’s top-tier hospital.Nelson was brought along too. He was the victim’s boyfriend and also the man who had assaulted me.Aileen visibly shrank back when she saw Nelson.Nelson did not yet know the full story. His face still twisted in fury as he glared at me. “What the hell are you looking at? Once I get out, you’re dead!”I ignored him and said to the doctor, “Please run a full gynecological exam, plus a complete infectious disease screening. Pay particular attention to syphilis and genital herpes.”At the mention of those words, Aileen’s entire body shuddered. She nearly collapsed to the floor.“I’m not doin

The air went completely still.Everyone in the lobby was staring at the ID in the clerk’s hand.Meanwhile, the live chat exploded.[Wait… She’s a woman?][Did I hear that right? Casey’s female? Then what's Aileen even doing, trying to force a marriage?][What the hell is going on? Is Casey actually innocent?]The look on Aileen’s face was priceless. There was shock, confusion, and panic all at once. The clerk pushed up her glasses and tossed the ID back to her.“Are you still trying to register for marriage? We don’t handle same-sex marriages here."“N-No way! That’s impossible!”Finally, Aileen seemed to come back to her senses. She snatched my ID, flipping it over frantically. “This has to be fake! You got a fake ID to trick me!”She jabbed her finger at my nose while screaming, saliva flying in all directions.I let out a cold laugh, clenching my teeth against the pain of my broken ribs. With a swift motion, I ripped open my hospital gown.Beneath it was a medical chest
