Chapter 2

Author: Green Fur
My adoptive parents, Hugh Watson and Lindsey Sanders, stood in the doorway, looking at me coldly. The bodyguards behind them cast long shadows across the hallway, making their presence even more menacing.

The moment Flynn saw them, he rushed forward. "Dad, Mom, you're finally here. I'm sorry—it's my fault I didn't handle things properly and let Zayne be misunderstood…"

Lindsey frowned deeply as she grabbed Flynn's arm to check for injuries. When she finally looked at me, her gaze was filled with nothing but disgust and disappointment.

"Zayne, you're hopeless! How many times did I warn you when Flynn came back? You're the older brother—you should take responsibility. You should look after your younger brother! We raised you in luxury for 18 years, treated you like our own, and this is what we get?

"Flynn told us you bullied him at home, and we didn't believe it at first, thinking you were always kind. We even spoke up for you so he wouldn't overthink it. And you? You cheated on the exams and tried to make Flynn take the blame.

"Did you really think that destroying Flynn would let you keep the position of the Watson family heir? Keep dreaming! A fake will always be a fake. You don't even come close to Flynn!"

I had heard those words countless times in my previous life. I thought I wouldn't care anymore, but my heart still ached like it was being stabbed with a thousand knives.

Lindsey used to panic and call the family doctor at the slightest scrape or bruise I got from playing. She would march off to demand justice if anyone called me a "bastard", caring nothing for the appearance of propriety.

She had even once said that both Flynn and I were her children, and she would never treat me coldly just because Flynn returned.

And yet, she was also the one who loaded every one of Flynn's lies onto my shoulders without verifying a single fact.

"It's true, then," someone muttered. "Even the parents are saying it."

"You really can't judge a book by its cover. A fake will always be a fake, and cruelty is in their very nature."

Ignoring the whispers around me, I looked at Lindsey with the last flicker of hope I had left. "Mom, do you really think I would cheat or bully Flynn at home? We've lived together for 18 years, and all of that counts for nothing against what he says?"

Hugh stepped forward, slamming the "evidence" Mr. Stone had given him onto the floor at my feet.

"The proof is right here! There's no denying it! Two identical test papers, even the mistakes match perfectly! How could this be fake? Flynn earned first place, and you're dead last! Do you think we'd believe he copied from you?

"How could you stoop to such despicable tactics just to take his guaranteed admission? Do you even know how much Flynn endured in the countryside? He earned first place on his own, and you try to steal it from him? Have you no conscience? You've brought shame on the entire Watson family!"

Flynn tried to calm Lindsey but added, "Dad, don't get too worked up. Zayne might have just lost his head for a moment. He's usually fine with me. He only sometimes says I'm a country bumpkin, that I don't belong in the Watson family, that everything in the family is his…"

"What? He actually said that to you?" Lindsey snapped.

"I didn't!" I shot back. "I never said that, and I never needed to steal his guaranteed admission!"

I fixed my gaze on them. "Have you forgotten? I received Harmington University's admission letter last month. Why would I ever cheat?"

After that interview aired, the Watson Group's stock price was cut in half overnight. Even without asking, news of the Watson family's downfall found its way to me.Hugh had apparently flown into a rage, blaming the company's collapse entirely on his wife and son. He often beat and cursed Flynn, claiming he had driven me away out of jealousy and caused the family's misfortune. The once pampered "golden child" had become a jinx everyone avoided.I felt nothing.Karma had caught up with them. This was the outcome they brought upon themselves. The next time I saw Flynn was outside the Harmington University laboratory building. I had just finished processing a set of data and was heading to the cafeteria.A disheveled figure suddenly lunged out from the bushes, gripping a folding knife tightly. His eyes were wild with madness."Zayne! Go to hell! As long as you die, Mom and Dad will pay attention to me again! The Watson family will be saved!"Gasps rippled through the students near

Professor Smith's words landed like a series of heavy blows, crashing straight into the hearts of the Watsons.Hugh looked as if he regretted everything now. When he glanced at me, his eyes were filled with shock, regret, and a trace of greed.I could easily guess what was going through his mind. He was already figuring out how to keep me by his side. With Professor Smith favoring me, even the authorities would have to give the Watson Group a measure of respect.Hugh stepped forward and tried to pat my shoulder. "Zayne, I lost my temper earlier and said things I didn't mean. You know I've always valued you the most. It was all a misunderstanding. "That bastard Flynn misled us. Don't take it to heart. Come on, tell Professor Smith you're the eldest son of the Watson family. How could you stay in a school dorm when we have a mansion?"I took a step back and avoided his touch. My gaze was as cold as if I were looking at a stranger. "Mr. Watson, your memory must be failing you. Just

A low murmur rippled through the crowd."Professor Norman Smith? The legendary mathematician from Harmington University?""You usually only see someone like him on the news. How is he even here?"Hugh's eyes widened as he realized the situation. He plastered on a fawning smile and pushed Flynn forward. "Professor Smith! What an honor! I'm the chairman of the Watson Group. This is my son, Flynn—the top scorer this year! There was a minor misunderstanding earlier, but his talent is unquestionable…"He nudged Flynn. "Say hello properly to Professor Smith!"Ignoring the mark on his face, Flynn quickly wiped his mouth and bowed respectfully. "Professor Smith, it's an honor. I've always looked up to you…"Professor Smith, however, walked past them and headed straight for me. The crowd went silent, and even this legendary figure's face held a mischievous, almost teasing expression, like an old trickster catching someone off guard."Oh, you little troublemaker! Why haven't you answere

Principal John Davis shot him a sharp look, then turned to the officials from the Department of Education behind him. "Mr. Cooper, since someone has accused the school administration of falsifying exam papers, please conduct an on-site inspection. The surveillance and grading systems are completely isolated. Unless someone can simultaneously hack both the Department's firewall and the school's internal network within a minute, this is the original data."Mr. Cooper, a middle-aged official, pushed up his glasses and nodded. "The technical team has already inspected the system. There's no evidence of hacking. In other words…"He held the tablet up, showing the test paper with the turtle drawing. "This is Zayne's genuine exam paper."Flynn's last bit of protection crumbled completely. His face drained of color, and he swayed on his feet, gripping Lindsey's arm just to keep from collapsing."How is this possible?" Lindsey whispered in disbelief. "Flynn said—""Why is it impossible?"

A deathly silence hung over the hallway for a full minute before someone finally let out a stifled snicker. Almost immediately, laughter spread like wildfire, and the crowd erupted into a chorus of jeers and giggles."Holy crap! This is the so-called perfect score? A blank paper?""I can't stop laughing. 'Never seen a blank paper before'? That's unbelievably bold!""Wait a second. If Zayne really submitted a blank, where did Mr. Stone get that perfect-score paper?""Could it be that Mr. Stone faked it to frame him?"The crowd's mood shifted instantly. Students who had been whispering and pointing now stared at Mr. Stone and Flynn with suspicion and disdain.Sweat beaded on Mr. Stone's forehead as he scrambled for the computer's power cord, trying to cut the feed. "It's a virus! A hacker attack!" he shouted in a panic. "Zayne! How dare you break into the school system! This is a crime! I'm calling the police!"The screen went black, but his panicked flailing only confirmed ever

"The original test papers have already been sealed and sent to the Department of Education as evidence of cheating!" Mr. Stone thundered. His eyes flickered for a split second. It was obvious he had been in on this with Flynn from the start. There was no way he could produce the original papers."The grading system is for teachers only. A cheating student like you has no business looking at it! Who knows if you'd try to alter the data?"Mr. Stone gave up trying to reason with me and turned to Hugh. "Mr. Watson, Zayne has seriously corrupted the school's culture. He shows no remorse and openly defies both parents and teachers. I recommend immediate expulsion, with a school-wide announcement.""Expel him! He has to be expelled!" Hugh roared. "It's a disgrace to keep a troublemaker like this around! He's already brought shame to our family!"Hugh yelled toward the door. "Security! Get over here! Throw this shameless brat out! He's never coming back to this school!"The security guar
