Chapter 3

작가: Noorie
Soon after I was thrown into the dungeon of the Lycan Palace. The shackles on my wrists hummed with a low-frequency pulse, a specialized magic designed to suppress the wolf. To me, it felt like a thousand needles pricking at my skin, threatening to unravel the "masculinity" spell that kept my true nature hidden.

I sat on the edge of the narrow cot, my head in my hands.

"Prisoner 402, you have a visitor," a guard barked, his voice echoing against the obsidian walls. "Legal counsel."

The heavy iron door groaned open. A woman stepped in, her sharp heels clicking with a rhythm that screamed authority. She waited for the guard to leave before her professional mask shattered.

"Alex, you absolute idiot," she whispered, rushing to the bars.

"Nice to see you too, Missandre," I rasped, leaning my forehead against the cold metal.

Missandre was the daughter of our pack's lead physician. She was the only person outside my family who knew I was a woman.

She had been the one to help me manage the side effects of the testosterone-heavy potions the witch forced me to swallow. Now, she was my only hope.

"Your father sent you to build connections not to... rot in prison. My Goddess! What brought you here? what crime have you committed other than following your father's ridiculous commands?"

"I'm accused of... assaulting Lycan King's consort." I said. For a moment we only stared each other and then Missandre could not hold her laughter.

She laughed until her stomach ached before she said, "You are innocent, my friend. I can vouch my life for that, even before the Lycan King."

"Can you do that without revealing my true identity?" I asked, looking deeply into her eyes. Her laughter came to an abrupt halt as she said, "Let's get serious now!"

She opened her briefcase, spreading papers and then studied the case provided by the royals.

"The report says you feign rogue attack and assaulted Rosemary Thorne."

"Could it be that she misunderstood you, Alex?" She asked, "I mean she is young and was terrified."

"She’s lying, Missandre. She looked me in the eye and chose to frame me," I hissed, my knuckles whitening as I gripped the bars.

"Why? Why would she risk her reputation and mine?"

"If what you are saying is right then she must be a fool to do that. Does she not know that Lycan King has a unique method of finding out the truth, his Truth revealing Hunter? Everyone knows about it." Missandre said before rubbing her forehead, "Is she really stupid to frame you like this?"

"I wouldn't have thought this way if you haven't mentioned it. The Truth revealing Hunter, it can solve the issue within seconds if I demand it in the trial." I said excitedly.

"Don't be foolish!" Missandre turned me down, "The Lycan King would definitely not use it on a woman, specially his fiance. He will use it on you."

"And, the hunter will break all the charms, expose you naked before him. He will know that you are innocent. But, he will also know that you are a woman, Alex." She added.

"It means I'm doomed in either way. It's either I confess the crime I never did or reveal my true identity and got my whole pack screwed up for fraud." I said.

"As much as I'm disheartened to say that. But, it's true, Alex. You have to choose between yourself and your pack."

"I can't choose, Missandre. I'm not in that condition," I said,"And I can't wait for a trial. The spell is weakening. If I’m here for more than forty-eight hours, the King won't be executing an Alpha. He’ll be executing a girl."

Missandre’s face turned pale. "What do you want me to do?"

"I don't need a lawyer right now. I need arrangement," I said, my voice dropping to a dangerous, low pitch. "I need you to use your credentials. Tell the guards you need to conduct a physical 'compatibility check' or some legal nonsense. Find out where they’re keeping Rosemary Thorne."

Missandre shook her head. "Alex, no. If you’re caught near her, they’ll kill you on sight."

"She’s the only one who can undo this," I insisted, my eyes flashing amber for a brief, flickering second. "She thinks she’s playing a game with a boy she can bully. She has no idea who she’s actually dealing with."

I leaned closer to the bars, the intensity of my gaze making Missandre step back.

"Set the meeting, Missandre. Get me ten minutes alone with the 'victim.' I’m going to make Rosemary Thorne tell the truth—even if I have to show her exactly who I'm."

He addressed me with my true name, the name my mother had given me before dying. The world knew me by Alexander, but only a selected members of my family knew my real name was Alexandra. I watched him as he stood by the window, the morning sun outlining his massive frame. He had traded his crown for a simple linen shirt, but the authority he radiated was absolute."You're thinking about the trial," he said, not needing to turn around to feel my gaze."I’m thinking about how close the axe came," I replied, my voice finally regaining its strength. I sat up, the silk sheets sliding against my skin. "And I’m thinking about my pack. They followed a son for six years. I don’t know if they will follow a daughter."Lycan King turned to look at me, his golden eyes burning with a possessive heat that made my wolf stir restlessly beneath my skin. "They do not just follow a daughter, Alexandra. They follow the Lunar Queen. Any wolf who disputes your right to lead will answer to my claws."He cro

The silence that followed my confession was deafening. I felt the vibration of the executioner’s heavy boots on the wooden planks as he adjusted his stance, the sunlight glinting off the polished edge of the massive axe. I braced myself, my heart slowing to a rhythmic thud. I was ready. But Rosemary was not."Wait!" her voice shrieked, shattering the solemnity of the moment. "My King, wait! Something is wrong!"I opened one eye, peering through the strands of my hair. Rosemary had rushed to the edge of the dais, her face no longer a mask of saintly mourning, but one of sheer, frantic desperation."He is lying!" she cried out, pointing a trembling finger at me. "He is confessing only to spite me! To leave me a widow before I am even a wife! He wants to escape the responsibility of the child!"The Lycan King’s golden eyes narrowed, his gaze shifting between my kneeling form and his frantic fiancée. "He has admitted to the crime, Rosemary. What more do you want?""The Truth-Revealing Hunt

"I only asked you to find a mate and that's can only be a man, a strong wolf to handle your extraordinary wolf, Alex." "I expected you to find someone who could understand your situation and still choose to be with you. Not a she-wolf, not a shield.""How could you be so silly to even think that I would ask my only daughter to mate with a woman and finish our lineage?" He asked. For the first time in my life I could see my father expressing his love for me so openly. It was something I had always longed for in my entire life.Even if I had to die, I was glad that the misunderstandings between us was cleared off and we could express each other's feelings so openly, like a normal father and daughter duo.In the end, my father instructed me to demand the truth-revealing hunter at the time of my punishment. He could not do that because no one was allowed to be present where I was to be beheaded. I had to save myself on my own. "Just tell your truth, Alex, and I'll handle everything. Th

Rosemary left after offering me a deal she thought no werewolf would reject especially when an axe was hanging on his neck.I did not promise her to obey. But, she was already sure, I was going to compromise for the sake of my petty life. However, after she left, I was not left alone. The guard came back. This time he informed, "Prisoner 402, you have a visitor here."I could not help but wonder who it could be. Missandre? Impossible. No one was allowed to meet me other than my blood relative. Before I could reach any conclusion, the heavy iron door of the dungeon groaned on its hinges, and the footsteps that followed were heavy, rhythmic, and painfully familiar.I looked up as the shadow of my father, Alpha Silas, stretched across the damp stone floor. My face turned pale instantly. I could only assume my father's fury, his disappointment at me.I clutched my hands tightly, expecting him to demand how I could be so careless, how I could let a high-ranking lady corner me into a scanda

But, I waited. I knew she was going to say more."Since I have brought you so down, you have no way to save yourself, Alex. Only taking me as your mate is the only way to save your life. So, bond with me.""And why would you want to be my mate instead of Lycan King's or your lover's?" I asked."I don't love the King. Why would I let him mark me?" She smirked."Why not marking your lover then?" I asked again. "If I refuse to be the Lycan King's Luna and choose a random werewolf who is only a warrior at my father's pack, even a fool would easily figure this out that I was already in love with someone and that's why I created all this drama." She said, "I think you are smart enough to understand my point.""You are right. Choosing your lover is out of the league. But, why choosing me then?""You accused me of physical assault. If you choose me, do you think no one will doubt your actions? Won't they wonder why the lady who accused a man for assaulting her is suddenly ready to be his c

"Your father is not the manipulator, Rosemary. It's you." I said. "I wonder if your father is even aware of your ploy.""You are wrong at this. He knows." She said, a smugful smile spreading on her lips. She had finally come out of her mask of weak and fragile she-wolf and looked arrogant but clever now."But, you didn't tell me how you see through such a fantastic act of mine, A-Alpha Alex. D-Don't you think I'm a weak and innocent girl who is being pressurized by others like others think? The audacity! She was standing before my eyes after framing me two times, knowing I was going to lose my life for this and had the heart of mocking me.I could not hold myself. Something snapped into my mind and I raised my hands, they passed through the gaps of iron bars. I grabbed her neck and pulled her closer, whispering in a cold voice, "I'm going to die anyway, Rosemary. Killing you wouldn't add up anything to my punishment. Don't you think it's better for me to take you down with me as well
