Zara’s POV

Morning came like a cruel joke. My body hadn’t recovered from yesterday’s fight, yet Andre summoned me at sunrise. His voice thundered through the halls, dragging me out like I was nothing more than a pawn to be moved.

The courtyard was colder than usual, the air heavy with tension. Warriors lined the edges, their eyes sharp with curiosity. They’d seen what happened yesterday. They’d seen me knock down one of their own. And now, they were waiting for me to fall, or for something worse.

Andre stood at the center, hands clasped behind his back, expression carved from stone. But I recognized the gleam in his eyes. He was plotting something. Something dangerous.

“Yesterday,” he began, his voice carrying over the crowd, “our little omega surprised us. She fought. She even landed a blow worth noticing.” His smile was sharp, cruel. “But a single spark doesn’t make a flame. Today, we’ll see if that spark burns or dies.”

My stomach knotted.

“What do you mean?” I asked, my voice ba

Marcus’s POVHer silence cut deeper than any blade.I stood there, staring into the eyes of the woman I had claimed as mine, the woman whose scent was etched into my bones, and all I saw was fear. Not love. Not trust. Just fear. And she said nothing. The bond between us pulsed painfully, tugging, pleading with me to reach for her. My wolf snarled inside me, furious, restless, demanding I tear the truth out of her throat if she wouldn’t give it freely. But all I could do was stand there and drown in the emptiness of her silence.“I gave you a chance,” I said finally, my voice low, trembling with restraint. “And you chose to say nothing.”Her lips parted, her eyes glassy with unshed tears. For a moment, I thought she might speak, that she might finally shatter the wall between us. But the words never came. And with every second that passed, something inside me cracked. The courtyard felt colder than before. The guards shifted uneasily, pretending not to watch, but their ears caught ever

Zara’s POVHis voice froze me.“Zara.”The sound of my name on his lips was a blade sharp, inevitable, merciless. I turned slowly, every heartbeat like a drum against my ribs, my satchel clutched tight against me as though it could shield me from the truth pressing in on all sides. The moonlight made Marcus’s eyes burn gold, his wolf so close to the surface I could almost feel the heat of his rage. He looked at me as though he didn’t know if he wanted to hold me or tear me apart. My knees almost buckled beneath me.“I wasn’t ” The words tangled on my tongue, weak and useless.“Going somewhere?” His tone was calm, too calm, and that was what made it terrifying. The guards lingered, tense, their eyes darting between us as though they’d just stumbled into a storm. The gates loomed half-open behind me, a path to freedom that now felt like a noose tightening around my neck.I wanted to run. Every instinct screamed at me to flee before the truth shattered everything. But Marcus’s gaze pinne

  • Adored by my ruthless alpha   CHAPTER FORTY FOUR

Marcus’s POVI never thought silence could feel like betrayal. But as I lay there in the dark, pretending to sleep, the sound of Zara’s shallow breaths told me more than any words ever could. I didn’t need to hear everything just enough.Tomorrow, I will leave. Those words carved themselves into my skull, refusing to let go.My chest tightened until breathing became an effort. My mate Luna was planning to run. Why?The question tore at me like claws against flesh. I had given her everything: protection, loyalty, a place beside me no one could challenge. And yet… It wasn't enough. Or worse it was never what she wanted at all.My wolf stirred, snarling beneath my skin. She lies. She’s hiding something. Rip the truth out of her.But another voice, softer, steadier, whispered back. She’s yours. She loves you. Don’t let doubt destroy what you’ve built together.I clenched my jaw, fighting the storm that raged inside me. Love and suspicion wrestled, neither giving ground.I could still feel

  • Adored by my ruthless alpha   CHAPTER FORTY THREE

Zara’s POVThe walls of the Alpha’s quarters had never felt so suffocating.Every breath, every step, carried the weight of silence. Marcus hadn’t said anything since the trial ended, not about Andre, not about the whispers in the pack, not even about the restless nights that left him pacing when he thought I slept. But silence is louder than any accusation. And his silence was killing me.He still held me close at night, still kissed my forehead before leaving the chambers, still shielded me like he always had but something had changed. A crack had formed in the bond I had worked so desperately to protect. And I knew why.Andre.The moment I caught his eyes in the council chamber, I knew he wouldn’t stop until I broke. He hadn’t exposed me not yet but his words had been enough to plant doubt in Marcus’s mind. I saw it in the way Marcus’s gaze lingered on me, longer than before, searching, questioning. He was slipping from me, and it was only a matter of time before everything I’d bui

Marcus’s POVThe weight of the council chamber was enough to suffocate a wolf.Every elder sat in silence, their gazes flicking between me and Andre like vultures waiting to see which of us would bleed first. The trial had left scars, not just on Zara but on the pack itself. Doubt was spreading, slow but insidious, and Andre was feeding it like fire to dry timber.I stood at the center, shoulders squared, jaw locked tight. Zara’s scent lingered faintly on me lavender and smoke, fragile but alive. I clung to it, because without that reminder, I wasn’t sure I could keep the rage inside from tearing free.Andre leaned against the carved table, relaxed, smug, as though he hadn’t spent the last week trying to rip the ground out from under me. His smirk cut sharper than silver.“You should be tending to your mate, brother,” he drawled, voice dripping with false concern. “Not wasting the pack’s time with meetings.”“She is being tended to,” I snapped. “By me. Where she belongs.”His smile wi

  • Adored by my ruthless alpha   CHAPTER FORTY ONE

Zara’s POVThe first thing I felt was pain. A low, burning ache that spread through every bone as though the moon itself had carved me open and poured fire into my veins. The second thing was silence. No chanting, no growls, no Andre’s voice twisting the air like poison. Just silence, broken only by the soft rhythm of my own ragged breathing.I blinked, my lashes heavy. The ceiling above me was carved stone, familiar yet foreign in my haze. Furs cocooned me, holding in a heat that only made the fire in my body worse.I tried to move. My muscles screamed. And then I realized there was weight against my hand. Warm, solid, unyielding.Marcus.I turned my head. He was slumped in the chair beside the bed, arms crossed, eyes closed but jaw set tight even in sleep. His hand gripped mine like a lifeline, knuckling white from refusing to let go.My chest twisted.Even after what the trial showed, even after Andre’s accusations, he hadn’t left. But the memory cut sharper than comfort, the visio
