Mag-log in“You can hate me all you want, baby, but the contract says you’re mine.” Ever since a tragic accident took her father's life, Zara Bennett has carried her family's crushing weight alone. With her mother suffering a near-fatal heart attack from the grief and her younger brother spiraling into reckless gambling debts, Zara works double shifts at a South Side dive bar just to survive. But when she walks in to catch her boyfriend in bed with her coworker, her fragile world shatters completely. And then the real nightmare begins. Her brother’s gambling drags him into the sights of the Blackthorn Motorcycle Club, leaving him captured and facing execution for a debt he can't pay. Desperate to save him, Zara comes face-to-face with Knox "Dagger" Blackwood—the ruthless Alpha of the Blackthorn MC and undisputed ruler of Chicago's shifter underworld. Knox, facing an inpending challenge to his throne at the Winter Solstice needs a blood heir immediately. The second he catches Zara’s scent, his possessive wolf recognizes her as his true fated mate. But knowing a human girl will panic if he claims her overnight, knox uses her family's desperation as leverage, he offers her a cold deal: Sign a one-year Marriage and Surrogacy Contract to bear his heir, and he’ll wipe her brother's debt and pay every cent of her mother’s soaring medical bills. Locked inside Knox’s high-security compound, Zara struggles against a scorching physical pull she can't fight. But as traitorous pack elders plot their downfall and rival MCs bring war to their doorstep, Zara realizes the hardest part won't be surviving the contract—it will be protecting her heart from the possessive Alpha who claims she was always his endgame.

“Hey beautiful, how much would l have to pay for you to spend the night with me.” A guy in a black leather jacket asked, grinning at me like an idiot.
l was wiping the tap and cleaning the glass cups for stool three when he held me by the waist. "If you touch my hip again, sweetheart, you’re going to be drinking your beer through a straw for the next six weeks." The guy in the leather jacket laughed. For a second, I thought he wasn't going to stop because, truth be told, he didn't look scared. My fingers tightened around the bar rag, already calculating whether I could reach the baseball bat under the counter before he tried anything stupid.Beside me, Maya slammed a tray of glasses onto the rack so hard the whole shelf rattled. She glared at the guy in the booth, her nails tapping hard against the metal.
"You heard her," Maya said, pushing her dark hair over her shoulder. "Keep your hands to yourself or I’ll let her hit you with the bat on the counter. And trust me, she hits harder than I do."
The guy grumbled, but he slunk back into his booth.
I let out a long breath and wiped the sweat off my forehead with the back of my arm. Rust & Bone club was packed for a Tuesday midnight. Usually the crowd was always rowdy, but tonight the air felt freezing, with the cold Chicago wind blowing right through the cracked front windows.
"You okay?" Maya asked softly, leaning against the counter. "You look like you haven't slept in days."
"I haven't," I admitted, my voice rough. "Jake hasn't answered his phone since Sunday, Maya. Last time I spoke to him, he said he was just working his shifts over at the garage on 14th Street, and now... nothing."I had already called the garage twice, checked the apartment he sometimes crashed at, and messaged two of his friends. Nothing. Jake could be reckless, but disappearing for days without answering me wasn't normal.
Maya’s face softened. She reached out and squeezed my arm. "He’s probably just pulling extra shifts, Zee. You know how badly he wants to join Blackthorn MC. He panics whenever he thinks he's slacking off."
"It's not just shifts, Maya," I whispered, my stomach twisting into a tight knot. "I saw his notebook. He owes a lot of money to some biker enforcers on 47th Street. I'm scared for him."
Since Dad died, Jake had been trying to fix everything the fastest way he knew how to survive —usually by making things worse. I had spent the last seven months cleaning up after him, and I was already getting exhausted.
Before Maya could answer, my phone loudly buzzed in my apron pocket. My heart leaped straight into my throat. I pulled it out, praying to God it was Jake.
It wasn't.
City of Hope Medical Center
My hands shook as I hit answer and stepped back into the quiet hallway by the ice machine. "Hello? This is Zara Bennett."
"Miss Bennett," a harsh voice came through the speaker. "This is Nurse Henderson from the oncology wing. I’m calling about your mother’s account."
Cold sweat broke out across my back. "Yes, Nurse Henderson. I know the payment was due on Friday. I'm working double shifts all week, I'll bring the money by…"
"Miss Bennett, we’ve already given you an extra week," she cut in cold. "The doctor has been nice because of your mother’s condition, but hospital rules are clear. Her treatment costs forty-two thousand dollars. If we don't get at least ten thousand dollars by 8:00 AM tomorrow morning, we’ll have to send her home."
"No!" My voice cracked. I pressed my back against the cold brick wall, tears stinging my eyes. "No, you can't do that! She needs those machines to breathe! Please, just give me a few more days…"
"8:00 AM tomorrow, Miss Bennett. Or we give her bed to the next person on the waitlist."The line went dead.
I stood there in the dark, the phone pressed to my ear, my chest tight as fear washed over me. Ten thousand dollars by morning. Forty-two grand total. And I had just three hundred and eighty-four dollars in my bank account and thirty-two bucks in my tip jar.
How do I get ten thousand dollars in eight hours?
It was impossible.
No, impossible isn't going to change the fact that Mom needed the money. I have to find a way—borrow it, work for it, beg for it, sell something if I had to. I need to figure something out.
"Zee?" Maya stepped around the corner, her face pale. "Zee, what happened? Was that the hospital?"
"They're going to send her home," I choked out, wiping my nose with a shaking hand. "If I don't give them ten grand by eight tomorrow morning, they're taking her off life support."
"Oh, God," Maya breathed, pulling me into a tight hug. "We'll figure it out. We can ask Mr Roswell for a loan…"
"You know how Mr Roswell is about his money, Maya," I said, pulling back. "And Jake... Jake is out there hiding or gambling his life away while Mom dies!"
I grabbed my phone again and dialed Jake's number for the twentieth time.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
"Hi, you've reached Jake, leave a message….""Jake, answer the damn phone!" I shouted into the receiver. "Mom is getting kicked out of the hospital tomorrow morning! Where are you?! Call me right now!"
KNOXI was still working in my office when Rook, my second-in-command and beta of the Blackthorn Pack, came to tell me the woman was here.I didn't want to see her at first. I had no patience for people coming to beg me to spare traitors, but after thinking it through, I realized she could be useful to me.After all, I needed a surrogate bride to sign a contract with me and bear me a blood heir. The elders of the pack were threatening my seat as Alpha because I didn't have an heir. But how was I supposed to get an heir when I hadn't found my mate? I couldn't wait any longer for my mate to appear before conceiving a child. I desperately needed an heir before the winter solstice. So I asked Rook to let her up.But her scent reached me three seconds before the heavy doors of my office opened. My inner wolf, Dagger, forever ruthless and active, slammed against my ribs with enough force to make my hands twitch against the mahogany armrests of my chair.Mate.Mate.I smell our mate.Dagger'
***ZARA***Maya stared at me, her chest heaving, tears brimming in her eyes. She knew I was right. In this city, when Blackthorn MC put a hit on your name, there was no court, no law, and no escape.Reaching into her pocket with a shaking hand, Maya pulled out her car keys and shoved them into my palm again.“Take my car then,” Maya choked out, wiping her eyes. “But if you're not back or calling me in three hours, Zee… I swear to God I'm going down to that club myself to burn it down.”“Thank you, babe.” I choked out, throwing my arms around her neck for a brief, tight second before turning on my heel and sprinting out the back door into the pouring rain.Fifteen minutes later, I slammed the brakes outside The Sanctuary Club.Located in the heart of the South Side, the building was a massive, luxurious structure of glass and steel. Neon red letters glowed through the downpour, spelling out the club's name, while a line of luxury sports cars and custom Harleys sat parked beneath the VI
***ZARA***Three men stepped into the dive bar. They were massive, broad-shouldered, and clad in heavy black leather cuts embroidered with a menacing, silver-fanged wolf emblem—the patch of the Blackthorn Motorcycle Club. The patrons at the front tables scrambled backward, pulling their chairs away as if staying too close to the three men would kill them. The man walking in the lead was huge. He stood well over six-foot-four, with cold, deadly eyes, a sharp jawline covered in light stubble, and tattoos running down the side of his neck. He carried himself with a terrifying, commanding presence that made every human in the room hold their breath.Rook.The Vice President of Blackthorn MC.His dark, icy eyes swept across the room as though he were searching for something until they locked squarely onto me.Rook stopped right in front of my section of the bar. He leaned his massive, leather-clad arms over the counter, stepping directly into my space. The heat radiating from his body made
***ZARA***The door swung open with a soft creak.Jack sat propped up against the headboard, bare-chested, a lazy smirk on his face as he ran a hand through his dark hair. Sitting across his lap and wrapped tightly in his Egyptian cotton top sheet was Chloe—my general manager at Rust & Bone. Her expensive blonde hair cascaded over her bare shoulders, her manicured fingers resting lazily against Jack’s collarbone. She pressed soft kisses against Jack’s mouth, cheeks, and face while Jack kept his hands wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer. They both froze, turning to look at the doorway.Chloe didn't flinch when she saw me. She didn't gasp, cover herself, or look even remotely ashamed. Instead, a slow, cruel smile spread across her red lips, her blue eyes gleaming with satisfaction. Like she’d been waiting for me to see this—her and Jack together.Jack’s jaw dropped. The lazy smirk vanished, replaced by a flash of shock that quickly hardened into an icy, annoyed glare.“Zara?” J
