After Divorce, I Got Contracted to the Ruthless Mafia

Chapter 1

Valerie POV

With trembling hands, I stared at the A4 paper with me in shock, refusing to register the realization before me written" DIVORCE AGREEMENT"

"But why Liam, after everything we've been through, why do you think this is the best option" My voice cracked as I struggled to lay hold of the tears staring at my husband and sister clutching to each other's arms.

I had just returned to deliver good news to him. After six years of our marriage, I had finally gotten pregnant for Liam. Today was supposed to be our anniversary and I planned on surprising him with it only to come back home and meet my own sister kissing Liam in our matrimonial bed. I had screamed and raised an alarm about it but then Liam had tossed divorce papers in my arms.

"Listen Valerie, I never loved you to begin with, our marriage was a mere convenience because you deceived me, don't you understand but then, I married you out of pity but I didn't know you'll become this malicious" He snaps angrily at me, his tone laced with disdain.

"Really Liam, but you didn't fucking think of me as inconvenience when you made love to me, pls Liam understand, Stephanie is lying to you" I couldn't help it any longer as tears already streamed down my eyes and I slumped to the floor weakly "Pls believe me Liam, at least for once listen to what I say, I didn't poison father-in-law, I loved him as a father."

"I have nothing to do with you anymore Valerie, you're evil and right now, staring at you alone disgusts me" He spat with hatred and Stephanie chuckled.

"Valerie, you deserve to be jailed, how can you be so selfish to sleep with your father-in-law and then kill me afterwards to hide the secret" She scoffed and kicked me on the leg, shrouding my pale skin as I wince in pain.

"I saw you both remember, the day Liam traveled, you seduced his father and slept with him, you're a slut Valerie!" Stephanie added clinging more to Liam's arms and glaring at me.

"You think you could fool me Valerie, now get out with that bastard in your belly, too bad you already killed the father !" Liam yelled coldly at me and my heart rippled with even more pain.

"And one more thing Valerie, Stephanie is pregnant with my real child!" Liam added, shattering the last bit of hope I clung to and in that moment, I wished for death to engulf me.

How could they do this to me? All my life, I had never wished for anything other than a happy home.

Why is my life always different from others? Why is fate so cruel to me?

I didn't have the best childhood as my sister was the apple of my parents eyes, they loved her more and detested me.

I had always been an unwanted child even from my own biological parents but then, when I saw Liam in middle school, I had fallen in love with him.

Even after knowing he liked my sister back then, I still didn't give up and perhaps, I had thought it paid off when Liam had proposed to me after I graduated and I agreed even when it seemed weird.

Liam was my first sex everything and I thought we shared something in common. After getting married, I found out that Liam had left stephanie because his father didn't approve of her as a wife and I had thanked fate for that but when I came in, Liam's father loved me. He treated me like his own child, making sure I didn't lack anything while supporting his son.

The love I didn't get from my parents, Liam's father showered me.

So how could I possibly seduce and kill someone who I took as my own father?

Stephanie was bitter when he saw me with Liam and I knew deep down, she wished it was her all along.

Liam was a mafia Lord and I knew that, I helped him draft and strategize business plans until he became on top and dominant. All these I worked for because I loved Liam but after three years, Liam was beginning to become distant and I knew the reason.

On many occasions, had suspected me of extra-marital affairs considering the fact I was beautiful and hadn't conceived yet but I handled it all with a soft mind, not wanting to cause issues. Some of his business associates usually ogled at me each time I came to the company and for that reason, Liam had banned me from working and I had remained a dutiful housewife.

Not appearing on TV's or any station even when I graduated with a first class degree in Mass communication. I had always remained obedient and honest to Liam because I loved him and wanted to save our marriage.

" Pls Liam, you can't do this to me, it's all lies, I'm being framed, believe me, Stephanie is deceiving you " I clutched forward to his feet, pleading but he kicked me away and I fell down on my belly.

A thorough scream escaped my lips as the contractions hit me. Tears multiplied by folds in my eyes. The pain was excruciating and I couldn't bear it, it felt like life was leaving out of me as I held my hand protectively around my belly.

No this wasn't happening! At least not now!

My vision instantly turned hazy and my limbs wobbled weakly" Please --help- me" My voice got fainter but I could only hear receding footsteps " Let's go, she deserves it" I heard my sister's voice echo as everything seemed to crash down.

'Oh God, pls this can't be my end, I've suffered enough to die like this' I screamed even though it came out as muffled cries, the pain giving way to slumber as my eyes shut closed. My heart was dead and weak and my body soaked in the blood that streamed down my thighs.

My baby was gone, my six years of hard work was gone. Nothing could be more painful than this.

I sank deeper into the hollow that called me, darkness finally enveloping me and I drowned in the void. A wisp of white smoke is all I've become and nothing more.

"Is this the end? Is this really my end? If only - If only I could get a second chance? Just another chance to live is all I ask for."
