Chapter 4

Author: Lost in Time
Victoria glanced at Benedict and checked that he wasn't intending to stop her from speaking.

So, she went on, "The Eye of the Dragon resurrects the dead and saves the injured in exchange for a favor instead of monetary gain. Mr. Webber told me that once Dr. Drake steps in, our family will owe him a favor for saving your life. No matter the help he needs in the future, we must do our best for him, or else…"

Derrick asked, "Or else, what?"

Victoria forced a smile on her face and said with feigned casualness, "Or else, Mr. Webber will bankrupt us overnight."

"What?! Did Chad really say that?" Derrick exclaimed, jumping out of bed in shock.

Victoria nodded.

Derrick looked in Benedict's direction, shock and doubt in his eyes. The thoughts in his mind shifted.

As one of Chad's good friends, Derrick naturally knew what Chad was capable of and how frightening he could be. His level of respect and admiration for this young man was sufficient to tell Derrick how frightening and intimidating this legendary doctor was!

Derrick immediately humbled himself.

With a bright smile, he said respectfully to Benedict, "Dr. Drake, please don't worry. I'll abide by your rule, so please tell me if you need any help from now on. I'll go through fire and water for you."

"You don't need to panic. I might have this rule in place, but I seldom go to people for help over the years," Benedict said indifferently.

With that, he slung his bag over his shoulder and said to Victoria, "Send me out, please."

Seeing him making a move to leave, the Marshalls chimed in to make him stay for a meal.

As businessmen adept at socializing and networking, being hospitable and building relationships were second nature to them.

Benedict had saved Derrick and refused to accept money as compensation. If they let him leave without even enjoying a meal, Chad wouldn't spare them even if Benedict didn't blame them.

Given the level of skill Benedict demonstrated, something that even Chad was in awe of, the Marshalls had to find a way to be in his good books.

Benedict, sensing the sincerity in their invitation, thought about how he was now divorced and without a home to return to. Since he had nowhere to go at this moment, he decided to accept his invitation to stay.

"Ms. Marshall can accompany me for the meal. Mr. Marshall, you've just recovered and are still very weak. You'd better not head out these few days and stay at home to recuperate," Benedict said.

"That's fine. Victoria shall represent our family for the meal. You youngsters will have lots to talk about, anyway."

Derrick felt weak indeed and not in a state to head out. He nodded and smiled at Benedict before reminding Victoria to be a good host to Benedict.

Victoria agreed readily and bade her parents farewell before leading Benedict to the car. She instructed the driver, "To Riverside Piazza."

"We're having a meal at Riverside Piazza?"

Benedict was surprised.

Riverside Piazza was Arlen City's most upscale semi-private dining restaurant. It was said to be member-exclusive, and owning the most basic platinum card cost a hundred thousand dollars.

Over the past two years, as Chelsea's business thrived, she became a member at Riverside Piazza as well, occasionally treating her clients to meals there.

Benedict had never been there before.

"Riverside Piazza has a great ambiance, but if you're not happy with the place, we can go elsewhere."

Victoria had no idea what Benedict was thinking, but she quickly suggested an alternative out of concern that he might be upset with her arrangements.

"No need, that place is good enough," Benedict said with a shake of his head, not minding her original suggestion.

After a pause, he went on, "By the way, you don't need to address me as Dr. Drake. Just call me Tristan or Mr. Drake."

"I'll address you as Mr. Drake, then."

Although Benedict didn't look much older than her, Victoria didn't dare to call him by name.

Of course, what she didn't know was that Tristan Drake wasn't his actual name, but a nickname his master gave him back then.

The black luxury car soon arrived at Riverside Piazza.

Before they had the chance to get out of the car, a well-dressed young man approached Victoria, looking pleasantly surprised.

"Vicky, what a coincidence!"

He greeted Victoria with a bright smile, but when he noticed Benedict seated right next to Victoria, his face fell at once.

He rapped on the window and yelled at Benedict, "You bastard, who do you think you are? Are you fit to sit next to Vicky? Get out right this instant!"

Victoria was furious at the man's behavior. She stepped out of the car and rebuked him, "Jeremy, show him some respect! Mr. Drake is my guest, for goodness' sake!"

"What guest? His outfit isn't even worth a thousand dollars. Are you kidding me?"

Jeremy surveyed Benedict from head to toe with a look of disbelief.

Given Victoria's status, her guests were bound to be powerful and influential figures. How could a nobody like Benedict be a guest of hers?

With that, he reached out to grab Benedict in a bid to pull him out of the car.

Victoria was shocked and furious.

Jeremy was the heir of one of the wealthiest families in Arlen City. His grandfather founded Global Champs Group, one of the top five companies in Arlen City, which was by no means inferior to Starlight Group.

The thing was, Jeremy's father Christopher Chase used to be classmates with Derrick back in university. They were very close to each other. The two even joked about betrothing Victoria to Jeremy when they were younger.

Although no one mentioned their childhood betrothal again, Jeremy kept it in mind and persisted in pursuing Victoria even into adulthood. He had always seen Victoria as his fiancee.

That was why he overreacted when he saw Benedict seated next to Victoria and didn't hesitate to attack him.

"Jeremy, you're crazy! Don't you dare lay a finger on Mr. Drake!"

Victoria immediately tried to stop Jeremy when she realized what he was trying to do, but it was too late. Jeremy had already grabbed Benedict's shirt.

"Bastard, get out right now!"

Jeremy's rather handsome face was etched with anger.

However, despite pulling with all his might, Benedict remained seated.

"Let go," Benedict said coldly as he looked at Jeremy.

"You bastard, how dare you glare at me like that! I'll beat you up so badly, even your mother wouldn't be able to recognize you!" Jeremy roared.

Jeremy was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and everyone treated him with respect. Even the elders in his family had never said a harsh word to him in his life.

He was already pissed to begin with, and coupled with the certainty that Benedict was just a lowly commoner, he refused to take Benedict's attitude lying down.

He flew into a rage and lost his head, and sent a punch flying toward Benedict's face.

Benedict smirked as he grabbed Jeremy's fist. A quick twist, and he broke Jeremy's wrist with a resounding crack. He gave a gentle push, sending Jeremy stumbling a few steps back and collapsing on the floor, wailing and howling in pain.

Benedict opened the car door and slowly got out. His gaze swept across Victoria, and he said with displeasure, "Where did you get to know such an unhinged friend?"

Victoria was dumbfounded by Benedict's moves. She broke out into a cold sweat at his intimidating aura, and hurriedly explained herself.

"Mr. Drake, I'm so sorry about this. I didn't expect this to happen."

"I don't mean to blame you. I just want to remind you not to hang out with people like him."

Benedict's tone was indifferent. He ignored Jeremy and headed straight to the entrance of Riverside Piazza.

Victoria glared and scoffed at Jeremy before hurriedly catching up to Benedict.

Jeremy thought Victoria would show concern for his broken wrist. He didn't expect her to simply leave without a word.

"You wretched woman! We're childhood lovers, and you just ignored me like that? And that bastard! How dare he break my wrist?! I'll kill him!"

Jeremy's face twisted with anger as he sputtered viciously at Benedict and Victoria's backs. He gritted his teeth, furious, and pulled out his phone from his pocket.

"Mr. Drake, this way please."

Victoria caught up to Benedict and led him into the beautifully renovated restaurant, decorated in classic medieval style.

The moment they stepped in, someone from the corner of the restaurant recognized Benedict immediately.

"Mom, look! That's my brother-in-law! He's with a woman I've never seen before!"

A young woman in her twenties who resembled Chelsea somewhat pointed at Benedict, wide-eyed with shock, as she spoke to a middle-aged woman next to her.

The middle-aged woman turned to look at Benedict walking in, and her jaw dropped. The next second, her face flushed red with anger.

"Is that bastard Benedict having an affair?!" she snarled.

"Benedict, on the other hand, can't help me at all. I'm bound to be the most successful businesswoman in Arlen City. His filial piety, concern, and care aren't what I need right now. I'll divorce him the moment Granny's 80th birthday celebration is over!" she told herself.Thinking of how she could visit Derrick at his house, all because of Henry's credit, Chelsea started to compare both men once again.Meanwhile, Derrick gave Benedict a call, respectfully requesting that Benedict visit and check on him. He was feeling unwell and was wondering if his condition had taken a turn for the worse.Benedict agreed at once. He called for a cab and hurried over to Derrick's house. After he hung up, Derrick looked at his wife, Faye. With a half-smile, he said, "I gave Ms. Yarwood the project on account of Dr. Drake. I even gave her a higher profit share. I can't tell Dr. Drake that straight to his face, or he might think that I'm trying to claim some kind of credit. But I just called her o

"I see. I understand now. Since it's your grandmother's 80th birthday celebration the day after tomorrow, shall I attend it too?" Henry suggested with a nod."She slapped you today, and you still want to celebrate her birthday with her? Aren't you the least bit mad at her?" Chelsea asked with a smile. "She loves her granddaughter, and was just slightly agitated. It's completely understandable. I'll prepare a gift for her and apologize to her in person. I'll seize the chance to change her impression of me and resolve the misunderstanding between us," Henry said.Chelsea hesitated for a moment before saying, "I'm glad you're so understanding and thoughtful. Alright, then. Please come for my grandmother's birthday celebration the day after tomorrow.""Alright, that settles it!"Henry was overjoyed that Chelsea was willing to let him attend her grandmother's birthday celebration and meet her family. That was enough to show that she approved of him!"How about this? I'll book a resta

After Benedict and Chelsea sent Helena back home, they each made up an excuse to leave.Helena held both of their hands and reminded them for the umpteenth time to treat each other well, and that disagreements were inevitable in a marriage. They just needed to talk things through and seek reconciliation instead of rushing to get a divorce.Eventually, when they started talking about her 80th birthday celebration, she warned Chelsea that if she didn't see Benedict at the celebration, she would stop the party and ask for a coffin instead.Chelsea had no choice but to give in.Helena was finally satisfied and saw them out of the door. When Benedict and Chelsea walked to her car parked outside the alley, Chelsea stopped in her tracks and turned to ask Benedict, "What do you want?""What do you mean by that?" Benedict asked her back."Did you deliberately bring Granny to the clerk's office so you can stop us from getting a divorce?" Chelsea asked, clearly suspicious."It's fine that

Henry suppressed the anger in his heart. With a hand over his forehead, he explained to Helena, "Granny, you've misunderstood. Chelsea and Benedict are divorced. She's free to date anyone she pleases. I'm not trying to be a hooligan here!""Shut up! Who are you calling Granny? Who's your granny? I'm telling you, my granddaughter and grandson-in-law aren't divorced yet. In fact, they won't ever be getting a divorce! Continue pestering my granddaughter, and I'll slap you to death!" Helena yelled, pointing at his nose.Henry turned to look at Chelsea, who furrowed her brows and said apologetically, "Leave us."He sighed before turning to leave. However, after taking just two steps, he turned back to provoke Benedict. "Benedict Quinn, what's the point of getting an elder on your side? Chelsea has set her mind to divorcing you. You're not worthy of her! If you consider yourself a real man, don't keep pestering and clinging to her. Get the divorce sooner for her sake. Don't keep her f

"Granny, this is between the two of us. Can you respect our decision and not interfere?" Chelsea argued."What do you mean, this is just between you two? I was young once and I know what you're going through! What God has joined together, let no one separate. Marriage is not child's play! You two began in courtship, and I can see for myself how much Benedict loves you. Don't be ignorant of how blessed you are. If you really divorce him, how are you going to find another man as good as he is? You'll end up regretting it!"Helena was old, but still very fit and had the energy to go on and on, lecturing Chelsea."That's quite enough. I can make my own decisions. I don't need you lording it over me! I'm getting a divorce, and that's final!" Chelsea said furiously."Fine! You refuse to listen to me! You're all independent now, aren't you?"Helena's face flushed with anger, and she started panting hard. All of a sudden, her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she lost consciousness.

"You old fool, are you trying to kill yourself? Rushing across the road like that…"The driver got out of the cab and flared up at the old lady. Before he went too far, he felt the cold, piercing stare from Benedict and shut up just in time.Benedict's hand slowly lifted from the crumpled hood. The driver glanced at his hood. Seeing a huge hand-shaped dent on it, he swallowed past his constricted throat. A chill went down his spine."Dude, I was at fault for driving too fast," the driver said. He began apologizing profusely, for fear that Benedict's slap might land on him instead.Benedict couldn't be bothered to waste his breath on him. "Scram!" When the old lady saw Benedict across the road, she was in such a panic to get to him that she didn't take the zebra crossing. She managed to escape unscathed only because of Benedict's protection. Had she taken the zebra crossing or gotten hit by the cab, Benedict wouldn't have spared that driver.Having been granted mercy, the driver
