Sarah’s eyes darkened. “Who are they?”

To her surprise, Dr. Xavier only shook his head. His expression was dazed and helpless.

“I honestly don’t know who those people are.”

“That doesn’t make sense,” she said coldly.

“Please, you have to believe me!” he blurted out. “If I knew who they were, I would’ve told you straight away. I know Zachary Reynolds and Melvin Sanders are on your side. In East Coast, no one dares touch a man protected by Mr. Reynolds. But I really don’t know. Even the threats back then—the emails, the messages—they were all sent to me anonymously. I never saw a face.”
