Chapter 1306

Author: Summer Knowles
“Henry, when are you paying back what you owe?”

Keith snapped, fury barely contained.

“A few days ago, you swore you’d have tens of millions in hand. Where’s the money? Where is it?”

“I—I’ll have it soon,” Henry begged, his voice shaking. “Just give me a little more time. Just a little more.”

Keith laughed coldly.

“You’ve had time. First it was a month. Then a week. Then three days. How much longer do you plan to drag this out?”

He yanked Henry’s wife forward by the hair.

“Henry, when are you paying back what you owe?”Keith snapped, fury barely contained.“A few days ago, you swore you’d have tens of millions in hand. Where’s the money? Where is it?”“I—I’ll have it soon,” Henry begged, his voice shaking. “Just give me a little more time. Just a little more.”Keith laughed coldly.“You’ve had time. First it was a month. Then a week. Then three days. How much longer do you plan to drag this out?”He yanked Henry’s wife forward by the hair.“Or should we start settling the debt with her instead?”Her mouth was taped shut. She couldn’t scream. She could only look at Henry, her eyes filled with desperate pleading.“Keith—no, please,” Henry cried. “Give me one last chance. I swear—this is the last time!”Keith scoffed and shoved the woman aside like she was nothing. Then he casually tossed the knife away, grabbed Henry by the hair, and forced him to look up.“I’ll give you one chance,” he said slowly. “Do you want it?”“Yes!” Henry’s bloodshot eyes

The group chat exploded with cheering replies. Two burly security guards showed no mercy as they hauled Henry straight out of the building and dumped him at the entrance—right in front of everyone. The impact was so hard he couldn’t keep his balance. The moment his feet hit the ground, he stumbled and crashed down again.Any shred of dignity he had left was gone.Henry pushed himself up slowly, his face dark and bottomless, like a well with no light. He lifted his head and stared fixedly at the twenty-eighth floor.A minute passed. Then another. At last, he pulled his lips into a smile uglier than a grimace and muttered, so softly only he could hear it,“We’ll see who gets the last laugh.”With that, he turned and limped away. After finally reaching the roadside, he flagged down a taxi. When the driver asked where to go, Henry snapped back sharply,“Just drive. I’ll tell you later.”The driver went quiet for a moment, then decided it wasn’t worth arguing. He chalked it up to

Sarah suddenly thought of something and asked seriously,“Melvin, how many people did we assign to Dr. Xavier’s side?”“Five or six.”“That’s not enough.” Sarah’s eyes showed deep exhaustion. “I’m afraid they won’t hold back this time.”One incident after another had already drained her completely. But until the truth was uncovered, she could not afford to stop.“I tried reaching out to Mindy,” Melvin said. “It didn’t work. Her agent shut it down immediately. Are you sure you saw her?”Sarah nodded without hesitation.“It was her. I’d never mistake that face.”Her features were too distinctive. Especially after learning she might be connected to her father’s death, Sarah had studied Mindy’s photos dozens of times. Every detail was burned into her memory. And she had spoken to her face to face. There was no doubt.“What we can be sure of,” Melvin murmured, “is that Mindy definitely knows those people. The question is, what was she doing there?”“Melvin, no matter what, I have

Sometimes, Melvin genuinely admired Sarah’s instincts. She always noticed things other people missed. He raised an eyebrow, testing her.“Don’t tell me you already have a plan.”Sarah shook her head.“Not exactly. I’m not that omniscient. But maybe we can try something simple.”She paused.“Stir the grass. Flush out the snake.”A confident curve lifted Melvin’s lips.“You want to probe him. See how he reacts.”Sarah smiled at him, rare amusement flickering in her eyes.“Exactly. You do know me best.”This wasn’t something they could let outsiders overhear. So before lunch was even ready, Sarah sent the housekeeper home.Melvin looked mildly distressed.“Then what are we eating?”Sarah cleared her throat, perfectly calm.“The private kitchen at Stonebridge Pavilion is decent. I’ll have them deliver.”Enough small talk. They both shifted into business mode.Sarah dialed Leon’s number, switched on speaker, and waited. The first call went unanswered. She glanced at Melvin an

Sarah was starting to get annoyed by his lecturing. She deliberately picked at her ear.“Alright, alright. What’s done is done. What’s the point of saying all this now? It’s not like you can rewind time and change the outcome. Besides, I’m fine. Nothing serious happened.”“If something had happened,” Melvin said, his voice suddenly calm, his expression dark as water before a storm, “and Zachary and I didn’t make it in time, did you even think about the consequences?”Sarah had no comeback. She knew she was in the wrong. So she raised both hands in surrender and softened her tone, slipping straight into shameless charm.“Okay, okay, I know I messed up. I won’t go charging in alone to save people again.”She blinked, then quickly corrected herself.“No. I swear. There won’t be a next time. Happy now?”The words came out fast, but her face showed not a shred of sincerity.Melvin let out a helpless sigh, the anger in his chest slowly fading. He had known exactly what kind of person

At the critical moment, people surged in from every direction. Before Sarah could even process what was happening, the man beside her was knocked flat to the ground. Her knees went weak, and she fell straight into a warm, steady embrace.Ignoring herself, she turned sharply toward Scarlett.Steven had already taken down the remaining men in black and pulled Scarlett into his arms. They were finally here. Before coming, Sarah had sent two carefully worded text messages to Zachary. She had done it precisely because she feared this might be a trap. When she woke again, she was already in the hospital.Zachary was seated beside her bed. The moment he saw her eyes open, relief flashed across his face.“Scarlett. How is she?” Sarah asked immediately, her voice tight with worry.Zachary’s expression darkened.“Not great. She already knows about the video circulating online. And she knows about Mr. Larson being hospitalized.”Sarah frowned.“Why did you tell her? We agreed not to men
