Chapter 150

Author: Summer Knowles
“You look stunning today, Miss Sanders,” Steven complimented sincerely, his tone free of any ulterior motives, just pure admiration.

“Thank you,” Sarah replied with a polite smile.

“Miss Sanders, please get in,” Steven said, holding the car door open for her like a gentleman.

As she walked over, she asked, “Were you sent to pick me up?”

Steven waited for her to settle into the backseat before replying, “Yes, Zachary asked me to. He’s stuck talking with the old man and couldn’t make it himself.”

Closing the door, Steven got into the driver’s seat.

“Thank you,” Sarah said warmly.

At the grand St. Ritz Hotel, the most prestigious banquet hall had been reserved for Zachary’s birthday celebration.

The event was grander than any previous gatherings, including Lucy’s birthday party, which paled in comparison. Being Zachary’s birthday, the guest list consisted of high-profile individuals—some drawn by the Reynolds family’s reputation, others by Zachary himself.

Melvin could see that his words still hadn’t lifted Sarah out of her despair. So he pressed on, his voice low but firm:“We’ve already obtained Tina’s autopsy report, haven’t we? And with Dr. Xavier’s testimony, that alone is enough to tie her death to Vivian Wilson.”Sarah’s gaze stayed fixed ahead, her voice quiet but pointed.“Are you sure Dr. Xavier will actually testify in court?”Melvin hesitated. He hadn’t considered that fully—not really. Dr. Xavier had handed over the real report only because he felt safe doing so. But appearing in court was an entirely different risk.Seeing his reaction, Sarah let out a breathless laugh that held no mirth.“You’re hesitating. You know it too, don’t you? That even now, we can’t count on that.”Melvin’s chest tightened. He couldn’t refute her. She was right. Vivian always made sure her hands looked clean. There was always someone else to take the fall.“I get it,” Sarah whispered, more to herself than to him. “Even with all this so-calle

Melvin rushed into the room, his breath caught in his throat as he took in Sarah’s pale face. Her delicate arm was hooked up to an IV, her skin ghostly, a cooling patch stuck to her forehead. He tried to stay calm. He really did. But no matter how many deep breaths he took, the storm inside him refused to settle.“Sasa, tell me—what did my mother say to you?”Only then did Sarah turn her head to look at him. She’d never once put up walls with Melvin—never met him with this kind of cold detachment. Her voice was soft, but distant. “She didn’t say anything.”Melvin’s brow furrowed. “That’s impossible. With her personality? You and I both know she must’ve said something. Don’t take any of it to heart.”Sarah bit her lip and shook her head. Her eyes shimmered, full of unshed tears. She didn’t want to listen to Mrs. Sanders. She hadn’t wanted to. But even so… some of her words had hit too close to home. She wasn’t sure she had it in her anymore to start over. And she couldn’t afford t

“Sasa! Sasa!”Sarah felt like she was trapped in a long, vivid dream. In it, she was once again traveling with her father—before she ever met Zachary, before life grew so complicated.Back then, it was just the warmth of her father’s care, their laughter echoing across sunlit roads. In the dream, she sat in the passenger seat beside him, cheerful music playing as they drove along. But suddenly, a truck came barreling toward them. The impact was suffocating. She was flung from the car, her body floating through the air. Through a haze, she saw her father still behind the wheel, head soaked in blood, smiling faintly at her.“No! No, please—!”She jolted awake, eyes blinking against the bright white ceiling.Zachary was sitting on the sofa nearby, looking at a tablet, exhaustion written all over his face.Sensing movement, he looked up—and saw her eyes open.He immediately put the tablet down and walked over to her bedside. “You’re awake. Do you want some water? The doctor said yo

A torrential downpour soaked the earth, the air thick with moisture.Dragging her suitcase behind her, Sarah Sanders walked slowly to the gravestone. Her fingers trembled as they brushed over the cold, etched photo. Tears welled up in her eyes.“Dad… it was my fault. She was right. Everything happened because of me. If I had never met Zachary… if Vivian hadn’t set his sights on me… if none of it had happened, maybe I could’ve come home and still heard you nagging me like always.”She set the suitcase aside and sat down directly on the rain-soaked ground, uncaring of the mud seeping through her clothes. A bottle of wine, bought from the foot of the mountain, was placed gently in front of the grave. She cried as she spoke, voice hoarse, “I deserve it. I really do. But please don’t blame me, Dad. I didn’t mean to miss your final moments. I passed out that day—I didn’t run away.”---Meanwhile, at the Sanders estate, Melvin was pacing anxiously, his voice rising in panic as he called

Hearing Cavin refer to Vivian in such a dismissive tone, no one looked more pleased than Kimberly. The once untouchable heiress of the Wilson family had finally fallen so low that others could now look down on her too.Vivian couldn’t take the humiliation any longer. It had been bad enough when it was just one-on-one, but now there were two more people there to watch her fall. She forced herself to stay composed. “Looks like you have more pressing matters, Mr.Hartman. I won’t keep you. We’ll talk another time.”Without waiting for a reply, she turned and walked away, her movements crisp and decisive—no hesitation, no fuss.Kimberly blinked sweetly. “Dad, Uncle Cavin, I’ll go see Miss Wilson out.”Before either man could say anything, she had already chased after Vivian.“Miss Wilson! Wait up!”Vivian pretended not to hear, quickening her pace instead of slowing down.Kimberly took a deep breath, threw her image to the wind, and broke into a run. She finally caught up and block

Cavin Hartman stood up without responding to her. He passed his cue to an attendant and turned to walk toward the lounge area.Vivian bit her lip as she watched his retreating back. Shame surged violently through her chest. She forced herself to swallow it down and followed, each step feeling heavier than the last.By the lounge chair stood a tall, elegant woman, dressed head-to-toe in designer labels. The moment Cavin approached, she stepped forward with a soft smile and handed him a pristine handkerchief.Vivian took in the scene, her eyes lingering on the woman for a moment longer.Cavin casually wiped his hands, then flopped into the chair and crossed his legs, letting out a sigh of satisfaction.Seeing that he clearly had no intention of acknowledging her, Vivian walked over and said gently, “Mr. Hartman, if you’re not in the mood to talk right now, I understand. I can wait until you’ve had a proper rest before discussing things.”Her tone couldn’t have been more humble—Cavi
