Chapter 567

Author: Summer Knowles
In the meantime, she had another option.

With this thought, Sydney's eyes grew determined.

She gave Sarah one last look. "Better pray for yourself."

In a cheap rental apartment in East Coast's slums, Amy carried her child into a room where her lover lived.

"I'll get the money soon. Then we can leave East Coast, okay?" Amy pleaded earnestly.

The man nodded halfheartedly. "Sure, Amy. We'll have a good life, the three of us. Did they say when you'd get the money?"

Amy hesitated. "They said after Sarah's reputation is ruined. Should be soon, I think."

The man wrapped his arm around Amy's shoulders, speaking sweetly. "Honey, good thing you came up with this plan. Lucky your ex-husband's such an idiot."

Amy felt uncomfortable at his words. "Don't talk about him like that. We're the ones who wronged him."

But she had to look out for herself. She just wanted a better life for her child.

"Alright, I'll stop. But this place is so shabby. Can't I come stay with you? Henry's moved out a

“Oh, right! With this storm, the orphanage is probably out of power again. Their building isn’t in great shape, and whenever it rains like this, the electricity goes out. This is the perfect time to bring the kids the stuffed animals—they won’t feel so scared if they have something to hug.”Lucas glanced over at her, a bit surprised. “I figured your brother would’ve already helped fix the place up.”“He will,” Mia said seriously. “But I should tell you, he set up a foundation a while ago to help renovate orphanages. They’re working through a list. The one we’re visiting today? It’s not exactly a top priority. It’s too remote, and way underfunded.”Lucas nodded. “Then let’s get going.”They loaded the car, completely filling the backseat with plush toys. With the rain tapping gently against the windows, Mia queued up some soft music and hummed along as they drove.“Lucas the Movie Star,” she said playfully, “got any juicy gossip for me? I’m bored out of my mind. The latest scandal

Mia wasn’t ready to give up. She tried two more times, but still came up empty.Without a word, Lucas grabbed three coins from her basket and popped them into the same claw machine. The machine whirred to life. Same motion, same timing, gentle tap—hooked it clean.Mia blinked in surprise at how effortlessly he did it. But the moment she saw the plushie she wanted rising in the claw, she lit up.“You got it! You actually got it!” she clapped excitedly.Lucas shot her a smug look. Mia immediately shoved the basket full of tokens into his hands and pointed at another plushie. “That one next!”Coins in. Adjust the claw. Drop.“You got it again! You got it again!” she squealed, practically jumping up and down. Before long, they’d cleaned out nearly every claw machine in the arcade, and they still had plenty of tokens left.Mia even asked an employee for a burlap sack and cheerfully stuffed it full of every plush toy Lucas had won. “This is the best day ever!”She skipped ahead, hu

Mia looked even more excited. She quickly snuck a few messages out. When the dismissal bell finally rang, Sarah and Mia stepped out under an umbrella. To her surprise, hardly any students had left their classrooms. That was definitely not normal. Usually, the moment the bell rang, students would rush out like a stampede. As they exited the school gate, they saw Zachary’s car waiting. When he spotted them, the headlights blinked twice.Mia tugged Sarah toward the car and eagerly opened the front passenger door. “Come on, Sarah, hop in!”Before Sarah could react, Mia had already pushed her into the seat. The next second, Zachary leaned over and fastened her seatbelt.Sarah’s cheeks flushed slightly. She turned to look at him—only to realize Mia hadn’t gotten into the car.Just as she was about to ask, a tall man appeared behind Mia.Mia lit up. “Oh no, Sarah! I totally forgot—I promised to have dinner with Lucas this afternoon. It completely slipped my mind until I saw him just no

He suddenly pulled Vivian into his arms, his fingers hooking around the back of her neck.“Vivian, you’re beautiful. Don’t ever doubt that. If Zachary can’t see it, then he’s a fool.”Vivian’s face went pale. “Leon, just remember to help me.”She closed her eyes, unwilling—and unable—to watch what he was about to do.Outside, rain poured relentlessly.Zachary was already waiting at the school gate that morning, glancing down at an email on his tablet with a weary sigh. He tapped a number from memory.Steven picked up, his voice casual. “What’s up, Boss?”Zachary’s tone was low and serious. “I found the guy you saw last time.”Steven’s voice instantly turned sharper. “Who is he?”“His name’s Julian Spencer. He’s one of the Lis. Right after the banquet that night, he went back to Leon’s side. Turns out, he’s someone they brought over from Country H.”Steven repeated the name under his breath, then let out a bitter laugh. “I can’t believe I finally found him—like this. Boss, I w

Soon, the window rolled back up. Vivian glanced at Leon in confusion.“It’s cold,” he said.Vivian turned to look at him from the back seat. “Am I really that pathetic to you?”Leon paused for a moment before answering. “Pathetic. Completely.”Vivian’s eyes dimmed, and just as quickly, Leon added, “Zachary’s not right for you. Do you actually love him, or are you just unwilling to let go?”Vivian shot the question back at him. “And what about you? Do you really love Sarah, or are you just holding on out of pride?”Neither of them answered. The silence between them stretched out, filled with unspoken truths. After a long moment, Vivian murmured, “Maybe, at first, it was just about liking someone and wanting to be with them. But later... it became more about not wanting to lose. The more he pushed back, the more I wanted to win him over.”She let out a bitter laugh. “But I forgot something important—his heart was never his to give. It already belonged to someone else. To Sarah.”

The wad of cash was at least two thousand. The moment the man saw it, he didn’t even spare Vivian a glance. He bent down, scooped up the money, and grinned at Leon.“Got it, I’m outta here.”He disappeared in seconds, vanishing with the cash.Leon turned to Vivian and caught her just before she stumbled.“What the hell are you doing?”Vivian was completely out of it, clearly drunk. She looked up and clung to his arm, murmuring, “Leon… you still care about me, don’t you? I knew it…”Even her voice was hoarse and rough from all the alcohol. She was so far gone she could barely walk without feeling like throwing up.“Stop saying stupid things,” Leon said with a frown. Not far away, ‘Sasa’ stood watching, hesitant to come any closer. She was sharp enough to know when Leon didn’t want her around—and when that happened, she made herself scarce without causing trouble. Seeing Leon glance her way and gesture with a subtle wave, she instantly nodded in understanding, went to settle the t
