Chapter 3

Author: Unsettled Waves
Tina had tumbled down the stairs. Beneath her, a bright red pool of blood slowly spread.

In the next second, the front door was kicked open, and Stanley shouted urgently, "Tina, what happened? The maids said your heart was hurting and you didn't want anyone disturbing you—"

Stanley's voice caught abruptly. Trembling, he slowly dropped to his knees and carefully gathered Tina into his arms.

Tina said weakly, "Stanley, don't blame Dawn. I made her angry by wearing her emerald pendant. I deserve to be pushed down these stairs…"

Stanley's eyes turned bloodshot as he looked up at me. His voice was icy cold as he gritted out, "Dawn. Perkins. You'd better have an explanation for this."

At this point, my heart had strangely settled into a sense of calm.

"There's nothing to explain. I didn't push her."

Enraged, Stanley laughed out loud. His large hand clamped down on my jaw as if he wanted to crush my bones.

"Are you saying Tina threw herself down the stairs just to frame you? Dawn, at least use your brain when you lie!"

I struggled with all my strength. The discomfort in my stomach was growing worse.

"There are security cameras all over the house. You can check them yourself."

Before I could finish speaking, Stanley kicked me hard in the stomach.

I collapsed against the wall. The blood in my stomach finally spilled out, gurgling from my mouth.

I coughed violently, and my voice was hoarse as I muttered, "All you had to do was check the cameras to know the truth. Stanley, why do you never believe me…"

Stanley looked down at me from above. His gaze was completely devoid of warmth. He said slowly, "Dawn, Tina has a serious heart condition."

Shadows fell across his handsome face, making him look like a vengeful spirit. He grabbed my hair with one hand and yanked my head up, forcing me to meet his eyes.

"Are you saying Tina would risk her own life just to frame you, huh?"

My scalp throbbed as if it would split apart. I gasped violently, and the pain left me unable to speak. Blood seeped slowly from my nose and mouth.

Stanley straightened up and casually wiped his fingers clean. He fixed his gaze on my miserable state and, almost instinctively, took a step forward.

Then, Tina cried out tearfully, "Stanley, it hurts so much…"

Only then did Stanley seem to snap out of it. He let out a cold, derisive snort.

"You're pretty good at pretending, Dawn. Tina doesn't have the dirty thoughts that you do. Trying to sow discord between us won't work on me.

"Since you hurt Tina over a cheap emerald pendant, you can forget about keeping it."

Amused, Stanley's eyes gleamed with cruel excitement as he watched me scream in despair.

"No! Give it back… Give it back to me!"

As if he hadn't heard, Stanley took out his phone. His movements were resolute and mercilessly cold.

"Since you can't behave yourself, maybe a few days in a psychiatric hospital would do you good. Don't worry. I'll make sure the doctors take very good care of you."

My eyes widened in terror, and memories of being abused in the psychiatric hospital in my last life flashed through my mind.

"No… No! I've already… tried so hard to avoid this…"

Without giving me a chance to argue, Stanley scooped Tina into his arms and left in a rush. His voice was gentler than it had ever been as he said, "It's okay, Tina. We're going to the hospital."

I collapsed onto the floor. The moment they left, I forced myself to get up and dial that number.

"Jason Wade, I'm begging you. Please come and save me…"

The man who would one day be cold and decisive sounded unexpectedly tense on the other end of the line.

Through the phone, he whispered, "Dawn, don't be afraid."

I heard the sharp rattle of car keys.

"Send me your location. I'll be there soon," Jason said.

"When I was in college, I learned to cook," Jason said. There was a smile in his voice. He raised his hand and gently wiped away my tears.I was curious. "Why?""Because someone once said the food made by my chefs didn't taste nice, and that after we were rescued, she wanted to come mooch off me."Jason pulled me into his arms, and even though he tried to stay composed, his voice inevitably trembled.A rush of emotions swept over me—heartache, excitement, joy. We had finally reunited."When I wasn't busy at work, I practiced at the restaurant your grandmother liked. She always said I didn't do things properly, but when she had a sudden heart attack, I was the one who rushed her to the ER," Jason said, laughing as he held my face in his hands.I couldn't help but laugh too. "Grandma was always like that.""Your grandmother said she was a good judge of character. She believed she could trust me with things."Jason wrote a phone number on my palm. "Fortunately, I didn't let her do

Although Jason said there was nothing important, by the time the banquet ended, we had still managed to close a few deals.Jason gave me a teasing smile. "Force of a businessperson's habit. Don't hold it against me."I couldn't help but laugh. Not wanting to be outdone, I shot back, "If I hadn't left early, we would've closed even more deals."The two of us exchanged knowing smiles.Just as we stepped out of the main entrance, a car pulled to a stop in front of us.Stanley struggled out of the car in his wheelchair. He stiffened up as he stared fixedly at Jason behind me. Then, he asked, "Dawn, who is he?"I frowned, repulsed by his tone. "None of your business."I was about to lead Jason away from that lowlife when Stanley suddenly let out a nasty laugh."So you two cheaters did actually end up together," he said venomously.Rage surged through me in an instant. Rotten people always assumed everyone else was just as vile as they were.I stopped walking, raised my hand, and w

A month after my promotion, my team and I landed a fairly decent project.Coincidentally, we were invited to a fundraising trade fair being held in Eastvale, so we treated it as a celebration banquet and attended. After a few rounds of drinks, Jason leaned in quietly and whispered in my ear, "If you're feeling unwell, you can leave early. Nothing here is important."My assistant also took advantage of the commotion to slip me a cup of warm water, signaling with her eyes for me to step out and get some air.I felt warmth spread through my heart. After Grandma and Mom passed away, they were the first to show me what family warmth truly felt like.Just as I turned down the corridor, a voice called out from behind me."Dawn!"The voice was all too familiar. When I first arrived in Haldon, it haunted me like a demon, trapping me in the memories of my tragic death in my past life. However, hearing it now, it was no longer anything to me. It was just a man I had long since crushed be

Three years later, I officially took over a subsidiary of Wade Group that had strong growth potential. At the celebration banquet, I raised my glass and smiled. "Thank you all for your support and companionship along the way. I hope that in the future we can continue working together and striving forward."The room erupted in prolonged applause, with teammates who had journeyed alongside me for three years offering their sincere well-wishes.As the banquet drew to a close, I took a bottle of wine and found the man who had slipped away in the middle of the event."Mr. Wade, let me toast to you. Thank you for looking out for me these past three years."The man politely stubbed out his cigarette and graciously accepted the drink. "Dawn, you're getting better and better."The moonlight fell on Jason's strikingly handsome face, casting a subtle air of melancholy over him.My heart ached, and I forced a smile. "Would you like to talk to me about Sunny?"I knew that my success and bri

Tina was still lying in her hospital bed when someone suddenly grabbed her hair and slammed her hard onto the floor. She screamed and opened her eyes, meeting Stanley's bloodshot eyes. The man moved like a ghost. His overwhelming hatred poured out as he pinned Tina's head down and forced her to watch the footage on the phone he was holding. In the footage, Tina smirked coldly as I, lost in my grief, failed to notice Stanley entering. Then, without hesitation, she threw herself down the stairs."So this is what you meant… when you said Dawn framed you?"Tina chuckled. Her gaze was full of mockery as she stared at Stanley's broken leg. "She didn't frame me. But you didn't believe her anyway, did you?"As she watched the growing pain in Stanley's eyes, a wave of cruel delight washed over her."If you had believed Dawn for even one second, my lie would have fallen apart, and Dawn wouldn't have suffered so much—""Shut up! Shut up! Shut the hell up!"Stanley's eyes bulged with fury

Stanley checked the psychiatric hospital's surveillance footage over and over, as though he had some kind of obsessive compulsion. The security cameras captured a fully covered man storming into the hospital with several others. He hoisted Dawn by the waist without hesitation and strode out. Before leaving, he raised his hand and shot out the camera. Above the mask, only a pair of sharp, dangerous eyes were visible. They seemed to carry a subtle warning. At the end of the footage, the camera only captured a blurry "Haldon" on the license plate.Stanley's body went limp, and he slumped into his chair.Openly carrying firearms and hailing from Haldon… The only people Stanley could think of were the Wades.Once, with her eyes full of hope, Dawn had said, "Stanley, if we work together, we can make the family business as strong as the Wades' one day!"Now, Dawn was gone, and he was far from being a match for the Wade family. The doctor beside him frowned."The patient has severe ac
