Ella’s POV

“Master, we’ve found who tried to kill Miss Ella,” John announced, and I saw Jordan’s face fuel with anger. I had never seen this look on him. He looked like he could kill anyone right now.

“Okay, give me a minute. I’ll be with you,” Jordan responded, and with that, John left the room.

I had to at least know who wanted me dead. Although I had an idea, I hoped it wasn’t the Baxter family. I knew they wanted me dead for the trouble I caused them. I really hoped it wasn’t them.

“Ella, I know you have every right to know, but please, can you let me handle this for now? As soon as I’m certain about the suspect, I’ll inform you immediately, and you can decide whatever you want me to do with the person — and it’ll be done in an instant. I promise you,” Jordan said in a very soft tone.

He was a gentle guy and a rough one as well when needed. But right now, he was the sweetest person ever. I nodded my head, giving permission for him to go ahead, and with that, he left the room, instructing the other servants to look after me and the guards not to leave the door at any moment.

It had been hours now since Jordan left, and he still is wasn’t back. I sighed as I struggled to stand on my feet.

Maya came rushing in. “Girl, we’re in trouble.” She said in a worried tone.

“I didn’t want to tell you this, but the Baxter brothers have been messaging me since you were at the hospital. They tried getting to you, but I switched off your cell phone. They said if we don’t comply with what they want, they know about your precious Mr. Jordan — and they’ll get to him and harm him,” Maya explained, pacing as she spoke.

No. They can’t do this. They can’t involve Jordan. He has nothing to do with my stupid mess. How was I going to do this? I’m doomed.

“How much do they want this time, Maya?” I asked, expecting the worst.

“Two million dollars, girl. Where are we going to get that type of money from?” Maya replied.

It didn’t shock me. The Baxter brothers were as easy as a bedtime story to read, so I expected this enormous amount. But how would I raise something like this when I hadn’t even sent money to Mrs Rose back home for her treatment? I hadn’t repaid Jordan for all his help, and now they wanted money too.

“Should we just explain the situation to Jordan? I’m pretty sure he’ll understand, and he has the resources to make these guys disappear in an instant,” Maya suggested, pulling me from my thoughts.

“Of course not, Maya. Jordan can never know about this. It’s just between you and me, please,” I pleaded, making her promise because I know her — sometimes, she doesn’t think things through.

“From now on, I’ll handle their threats. Don’t worry about it,” I assured her.

The afternoon passed with Maya and me thinking of various solutions, and Jordan still wasn’t back at this point.

I shouldn’t be worried. He’s a grown, wealthy man who can handle any situation. Plus, I’m not his wife or girlfriend. I’m just a girl he had a one-night stand with. I shouldn’t be doing wife duties. But I couldn’t help myself.

I didn’t have Jordan’s number yet, so I couldn’t reach him. I asked Maya to help me go outside, and she did — understanding my worries, she didn’t protest.

We were standing at the door to the room where Jordan had brought me, and two enormous men stood guarding it. If anyone would know where Jordan was or how to contact him right now, it would be them.

“Hi, guys. Do you know where Jordan is or how I can get to him?” I managed to get their attention.

One of them whispered into the ear of the other before responding to me.

“Sorry, Miss Isabella, we have no clue. But if you want his phone number, we could give it to you,” the bigger guy replied.

He looked like he was lying, but I couldn’t argue with them right now. I just wanted to know Jordan was safe.

I got back into the room. I hadn’t noticed how beautiful it looked until now. I sat on the bed and tried calling Jordan, but it kept going to voicemail.

I had been calling him for minutes now, but he wasn’t responding, and it was almost midnight at this point. I eventually got tired and left him a message saying he should take care of himself and that I was worried about him.

I could feel my eyelids closing and my body getting tired — probably from all the medication I’ve been taking.

When I opened my eyes again, the my came in contact with a shadow in the dark, that was seated on the sofa by the bed.

“Hey, baby girl. Why are you awake? Do you need anything?” It was Jordan.

He was back, but he didn’t look the same to me. He moved closer, and I could see his face clearly. There were bruises everywhere.

My heart was pounding really fast at this point. I grabbed his face in my hands and didn’t even realize when tears began forming in my eyes.

“How did you get this, Jordan? Who hurt you?” I asked, sobbing — not even caring that he was my boss at this point. I didn’t want to see the man who made my heart skip a beat in pain.

“I’m fine, baby girl. Don’t cry, come on. I’m okay, it’s nothing serious. Just got into a minor accident, that’s all. Don’t bother,” he murmured, placing his hands on mine.

I knew this wasn’t nothing. The Baxter brothers must have gotten to him already. Should I just tell him about my past right now? Will he understand me?

Besides, what do I have to lose? I’m just a worker for his mum. The least he could do is kick me out — but he’ll be safe. That’s more important.

“Jordan, I have something to tell you,” I said.

“Me first,” he replied, smiling.

I let him talk. I’d just tell him later. Maybe what he had to say was more important.

“We found the person who tried to murder you, baby girl,” he continued, letting out a little chuckle.

“It’s Fiona. And she’ll pay.”

His last words left me completely shocked.

Jess’s POVOnly the unlucky get attacked on the night of their honeymoon, and it turned out I was one of those unlucky ones.I struggled to pry my eyes open, and it felt like they’d been closed for eternity. My body felt paralyzed, and my head throbbed a lot. Once I finally got my eyes to open, I turned my neck slowly to look around me, but there was no one. This place sure wasn’t my home. The house looked like it had been made strictly out of bamboo. “Where am I?” I murmured, trying to wake up from the painful bed I had been laying on, but I noticed footsteps approaching, and I pretended to be asleep. What if they were bad people and wanted to hurt me? I had to be careful. “Maria!” I heard a female voice yell, and some more footsteps approached.“Yes, Mum?”I struggled to peep and found a younger lady; she looked about 18 years old.“I was finally able to get us some newspapers. Now look at this woman in the picture; doesn’t she look like this lady we saved?” The woman asked, and th

  • After One Night    Chapter 105

Jordan’s POVThe drive back home was long and silent. I had shut my mind away from any sound and let my thoughts swirl around. It was pretty late, and I was certain Andrea should have been sleeping, so I didn’t bother to check. I went straight ahead to find John. I made it inside, and Miss Anna was in the kitchen as usual. I wondered if this woman ever got to take time off for herself and just stop standing there always. She noticed my presence and turned to me immediately with a smile. “Good evening, Mr. Denver,” she bowed and greeted, but I shrugged, and her smile faded fast. “Where are Jerome and John?” I asked in a calm but stern tone. “They’re by the pool, sir, having a drink,” she replied, her voice shaky. I turned on my heel without so much as a thank you and made my way to the pool area. John and Jerome seemed to be having a great discussion. I could tell from how loud their laughter was as I approached them. Why does everyone find it so fucking easy to move on from the d

Jordan’s POV“Jess!”“Jess!”“Bye, Jordan, please take care of yourself and Andrea, that’s my only wish,” Jess sobbed, standing before me in the white, silky nightgown she wore on the night of the explosion, but it was messed up with blood stains.“Don’t tell me goodbye, Jess. Andrea’s waiting for you, and I am too. Please stay, my love,” I wailed, but she began to disappear into the darkness.“I love you, Jordan. I’ll always love you,” she yelled and disappeared completely. I had tried to grab her hand, but she was gone. The woman I loved so much was gone.“No, Jess, I love you. Please don’t leave me,” I cried, tossing and turning, sweat dripping down my face faster than a water slide. I dug my fingers into the sheets and held on tight, as if doing that would make her appear again.I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Boss…” the voice came, but my eyes refused to cooperate. “Boss, it’s me, John,” the voice came again, this time shaking me with more force.“Jess!” I kept yelling as the tear

  • After One Night    Chapter 103

Jess’s POVThe night breeze blew Jess’s hair in the right direction as I wrapped my hands around her waist from behind, my head buried in her neck. We had chosen to spend our honeymoon enjoying the sweetness of nature, and I must say it was the best decision.“This is incredible,” she whispered, turning her face slightly behind to meet mine.I grinned, pulling her tighter. “Only the best for my wife,” I said, my voice laced with affection. I kissed her cheeks softly. “It’s only the beginning of a good life, Mrs. Denver.”The evening went on smoothly as we dined under the stars on the upper deck. The candlelights flickered between us, and the sound of the stream brought out sweet melodies. After dinner, we had an intense lovemaking session until Jess could no longer feel her body move. Her tiredness made me chuckle as I covered her up in some sheets and made my way outside to enjoy the rest of the night. But as I stepped out of the door leading to the upper deck, I felt a cold metal po

  • After One Night    Chapter 102

Third Person’s POVJordan’s fear about the message he received in Vegas lingered. Even as they returned to Evergreen, and right up till today, their wedding day, it haunted him. As he dressed up in his impeccable suit, Jordan and Jerome stood behind him with grins on their faces. Jordan turned around to face them as Jerome pretended to make crying noises. “I can’t believe he’s all grown up,” he teased, and they burst into laughter.Jordan stretched out his hands as they helped him with his cufflinks. “John, what did Officer Benette say about the messages I’ve been receiving?” he asked as a frown settled on his face.“He’s suspecting it to be from Jake and his twin. He said it could be they’re trying to scare you, but they have everything under control,” Jerome assured him, but it didn’t ease Jordan’s mind.Since their trip to Vegas a month ago, he had received five unsettling text messages from the same number—both freaky messages and death threats—and he had successfully hidden all
