Chapter 4

Author: Fairy
That night, I got home and checked my social media, only to find hundreds of hateful comments.

[Witch! You're the one who came between Arthur and Chloe, and you made her try to kill herself!]

[I feel sorry for Chloe! She gave up the man she loved just to make someone else happy. Arthur, protect your sister!]

[Boycott Lilith! Get her out of the design industry!]

I scrolled through the comments, confused. Then I realized Chloe had gone live.

In front of millions of viewers, she claimed I was a homewrecker who had stolen Arthur from her. She also cried about how I had stolen her project and embarrassed her in front of everyone.

"The truth is, I was already in love with Arthur before my mother married into the family.

"But I wanted him to be happy, so I hid my feelings and became his little sister instead.

"Keeping everything inside made me depressed. There were times when I wanted to die. Arthur was always there to save me. Lilith never understood. She kept causing trouble and coming after me."

People online believed every word. Soon, my account was flooded with insults.

The next day, I drove to the office, but a crowd surrounded my car and started pounding on the windows.

"You evil bitch! Get out here and apologize to Chloe!"

"Shameless homewrecker! You stole her designs!"

If the windows hadn't been reinforced, one of their rocks would have shattered the glass and hit me in the head.

Security helped me out of the car, but the crowd kept pushing forward. The guards struggled to hold them back.

Then I heard Chloe's fake, gentle voice from behind them.

"Everyone, please don't do this! Please stop! Lilith hurt me badly, but I don't want anyone attacking her. It's my fault. I should have stepped aside and let her have Arthur. If you have to blame someone, blame me!"

Her little act only made the crowd hate me more.

Amid the chaos, Chloe walked up to me and whispered with a smirk, "See that, Lilith? The whole internet is on my side now. All I have to do is cry, and they'll tear you apart. How are you going to fight me now?"

I gave her a cold look. "Is that so?"

I didn't bother arguing. Instead, I took out my phone and put the evidence up on the huge LED screen on the side of the building.

The first image was our marriage certificate from seven years earlier. Then came screenshot after screenshot of the messages Chloe had sent him.

Next, I showed the original drafts of my design project, along with every revision and timestamp.

I said calmly, "Chloe claimed I stole her design, but everyone at Spencer Group knows this has been my project from day one. Arthur is the one who handed it to her."

Before Chloe could argue, I showed everyone the final piece of evidence: her fake medical report.

"And here's the best part. Chloe claimed she became depressed because she had to hide her feelings for Arthur. But my investigator found out she paid for a fake diagnosis. Those pills she takes aren't even medicine. They're vitamins."

The people who had felt sorry for Chloe stared at the screen in shock. "Wait, so everything Chloe said was a lie? She played us!"

A moment later, water bottles started flying at Chloe. The same people who had insulted me were now insulting her.

Her perfect image fell apart in seconds. She shrieked, covered her head, and staggered backward.

"Stop it! All of you, stop!"

Just then, Arthur pushed through the crowd and stood in front of Chloe.

"Lilith! Haven't you done enough?!" He pointed angrily at me. "You posted all this online! Are you trying to ruin the company too?! Put out a statement right now and tell everyone you made it all up!"

He stepped closer and lowered his voice. "Stop going after Chloe, and I'll let this go. Once everything calms down, I'll marry you again. But if you keep this up, don't expect me to ever take you back!"

I looked at him coldly and checked my watch. "Arthur, your threats don't work on me. You should be getting a very interesting call any second now."

Arthur froze. A second later, his phone rang. His secretary's panicked voice came through the line. "Boss! We have a problem! All the voting rights tied to your shares have been taken back. You don't have any voting power left!"

The color drained from Arthur's face. He stared at me, stunned.

I looked at him and said coldly, "Arthur, you're out. From this moment on, you're no longer the president of Spencer Group. Now take your sister and get the hell out of my company!"

A week later, Arthur, completely broke and desperate, ran into Chloe outside a pawnshop. Her lover had taken all her money and left her homeless. After nearly tearing each other apart, the two had gotten back together just to survive. They were trying to pawn a fake Rolex for enough money to buy two black-market boat tickets and skip town.Just as the deal was about to go through, three police cars pulled up and surrounded them. The officers jumped out and handcuffed them both. "Mr. Reed, Ms. Bennett, you're suspected of theft and embezzlement. We have received a formal complaint and supporting evidence. You'll need to come with us for questioning.""What? No, that's impossible! I didn't do anything. You've got the wrong people!" Arthur struggled in panic, sending pain through his broken ribs that still hadn't healed.Chloe shook her head frantically. Even now, she was still pretending to be innocent. "Yes, there must be some mistake. We're law-abiding citizens."The police ignored the

Disgust flashed across Caleb's face. He didn't even bother moving away. He simply gave his bodyguards a look. One of them planted a foot in Chloe's stomach and kicked her aside like a bag of trash."Disinfect this spot. It's disgusting," Caleb said coldly before getting into his car.Ironically, Arthur had followed Chloe there to beg her for money to buy alcohol. He had seen everything from behind a pillar. The moment Caleb's Rolls-Royce left the garage, Arthur rushed out. He grabbed Chloe by the hair and slapped her several times. The security microphone caught him shouting. "Slut! How dare you throw yourself at another man behind my back?! Weren't you the one who kept saying you loved me? That you couldn't live without me? That I was the only one who could help with your depression?!"Chloe's mouth was bleeding, and one of her false eyelashes was half hanging off.But this time, she didn't cry or pretend to be weak. She lunged at Arthur and scratched his face, leaving three bloody ma

Arthur's screams could still be heard from outside.Caleb smiled and asked, "How do you plan to thank me for helping you out back there, Lilith?"The guests quickly took the hint and moved away, giving us some privacy.I let out a breath and looked up at Caleb. "Dinner's on me. Thanks for playing along.""Who said I was acting?" Caleb laughed softly.Instead of letting go of my waist, he leaned slightly and closed the distance between us.The cool scent of cedar surrounded me. His blue eyes stayed on mine, and his voice dropped lower. "Winston men don't joke about marriage. Lilith, if you're willing, we can get married anytime you want. Those banks I just bought? Consider them my wedding gift to you."His sudden confession caught me off guard. My heart skipped a beat. But I quickly recovered. I met his eyes and smiled. "You want to marry me? I don't make it easy for suitors. Are you up for the challenge?""I'd be happy to try." Caleb smiled. "I have a lifetime. I'm ready whenever you a

The ballroom was filled with elegantly dressed guests and sparkling jewels. Everything about the evening screamed luxury. The moment Caleb and I walked in, everyone turned to look at us.We made quite a pair. People quickly gathered around us, hoping for a chance to talk.Partway through the evening, a European diplomat called Caleb over."Excuse me, I'll be back in five minutes." Caleb leaned down and spoke softly into my ear. He handed me a glass of fruit wine. "Don't go far. Wait for me."I nodded and went out to the terrace for some fresh air. That was when I heard hurried footsteps from behind."Lilith! I finally found you!"I turned around and frowned. It was Arthur. If it hadn't been for his familiar face, I might not have recognized him. He looked nothing like the confident president he used to be.His suit was wrinkled, his hair was a mess, and his eyes were sunken. Dark stubble covered his jaw. He looked hungover, exhausted, and broke. He was nothing like the man he used to b

After I cut off all contact with Arthur, he finally realized I was serious this time.He grew more anxious by the day. Chloe tried to comfort him. "Arthur, don't be sad. Lilith is only ignoring you because she's angry. I'm not like that. I'll never leave you."This manipulative trick had always worked on him. But this time, it only annoyed him.He shoved Chloe away and stared at her. For the first time, he began to doubt her.Behind her back, he hired a private investigator. It didn't take long for the truth to come out. Chloe had bribed a doctor to fake her depression diagnosis. She had used fake blood to make it look like she'd cut her wrists. Worst of all, she'd spent all the money Arthur gave her on a younger man she was secretly seeing."You lying little bitch!" Arthur shouted. He slapped Chloe across the face and threw her out.He thought that once Chloe was gone, there would be nothing keeping us apart. I would surely take him back.Arthur had no idea that I had already moved on

Over the next three days, I cleaned up the company and fired every useless relative Chloe had brought in. Some of them couldn't even read a design sketch. As for Arthur, reality hit him hard. Again and again, his pride took a beating. He took Chloe to a Michelin-starred restaurant for dinner, hoping the fancy meal would cheer her up.When the check came, every one of his credit cards was declined. The manager asked them to leave. In the end, Arthur had to leave his expensive watch behind and use the last of his cash to pay the bill. Everyone watched as he and Chloe left in shame. Then they returned to the luxury apartment I had bought before our marriage, only to find that the door code had been changed.Their belongings were packed in black garbage bags and dumped in the hallway. In just three days, he and his family went from living in luxury to struggling to find a decent place to stay.Chloe burst into tears. "Arthur, this is my fault. Lilith is angry at me, and that's why she's do
