Chapter Twenty-One

“Sorry!” Jess exclaimed in between breaths as she jogged. She waved an arm to make herself appear more visible within the crowd. A few moments later, she stopped a few steps away from Greg before leaning on her knees to recover. “I woke up late today”

Greg chuckled and scratched the back of his head. “It’s okay, don’t sweat it”

The two had agreed to meet at the mall that day to do Christmas shopping together. He actually offered to pick her up but Jess didn’t want him to meet her family just yet. He’s been driving her home from school often for the past few months but she made sure to get off at least a block away from her house every time.

This was because she didn’t want her parents to get the wrong idea.

They weren’t dating.

“Here”, he said as he offered a bottle of water that he hurriedly bought at a nearby food stall. Jess took it gratefully before chugging it
