Chapter 2

Auteur: Soda
[Here she comes again. Can't she see I'm going through dirty balance sheets?]

Saturday, 2:00 PM. I walked toward the study with a crystal glass of whiskey in my hand. Those floating words slammed into my eyes out of nowhere.

Over time, this creepy mind-reading power stretched past three meters. The ruthless schemes of eight armed guards and two private doctors, even the guard's petty grudges outside—I saw them all clearly whenever they came close.

Matteo sat behind a heavy oak desk. He was scanning bills from underground casinos and gun-running laundries.

He raised his head. His face wore his usual gentle, caring smile. "Thanks for bringing me a drink, Sienna. You shouldn't have."

Then the glowing letters bounced above his head without mercy:

[She sure knows how to pick her timing. Zero common sense. Your husband is the Don, not some stray dog with nothing better to do!]

I squeezed the cold glass. My knuckles turned white.

"Get back to work then."

I set the glass down gently on the corner of the desk. I turned and walked out of the study. The heavy oak door slammed shut behind me. At that exact moment, the last door in my heart locked forever.

3:30 PM. The sharp click of high heels on granite echoed outside the estate.

Matteo's childhood friend and family legal consultant, Nicole Vance, arrived.

She wore a tight, sleek black leather jacket and held a fancy gift box. Nicole saw me in the living room. She flashed an elegant, fake smile. "Sienna. I brought Matteo a custom ivory-handled revolver from the Paris black market."

[Who is she playing the helpless trophy wife for? Does she really think that worthless title keeps her safe?]

[A useless canary with zero background. Completely worthless to the family business.]

Two lines of vicious, sarcastic text hung right above Nicole's head.

"Nicole, you're here." The study door opened. Matteo walked out. His face was stern, but the words floating above his head exposed everything:

[Sleek and capable. Now that's a woman who can stand beside me and control the board.]

The three of us sat around the table. Nicole smoothly handed over an encrypted file. She flicked a provocative glance at me.

"Matteo, I'm putting everything into this project. We're bidding for the exclusive trust rights to ‘Corvus', the top risk analyst on the Dark Web. Once we get his algorithms and hedging channels, our family's underground cash flow becomes bulletproof."

She talked business. But her mind shrieked at me:

[Once I snatch the rights to Corvus, let's see what chips you have left to stay by his side.]

[In this family, money and power are the only things that matter.]

I held my tea. I lowered my eyes to hide the cold sneer bleeding through.

Exclusive trust rights? Corvus?

The dark web legend they hunted worldwide, offering insane bounties for just a meeting—sat right across from them, quietly sipping tea.

Four years ago, Matteo frowned and told me, "Sienna, women of the D'Angelo family don't show their faces outside."

For his fragile ego, I shut down my multi-screen terminals. I hid top-tier algorithms. I willingly buried all my fire and stayed locked in this estate as his sweet, obedient wife.

They had no idea. With my dark web partner Chloe working in the shadows, the name "Corvus" already ruled the black market. My calculation fee for a single risk hedge jumped to twelve million dollars.

The dark web god all the Mafia families begged to see was right here in his living room, treated like a clueless, fragile trophy.

"Nicole, this project is crucial. The family backs you one hundred percent." Matteo nodded. Admiration dripped from his eyes.

Nicole smiled like a winner. Smugness practically burst from her face.

I set my teacup down softly. The porcelain clinked with a sharp snap.

No arguments. No screaming. Four years of fake sweetness shattered into dust right here.

"You two take your time. I'm a bit tired."

I stood up. I didn't give the two people at the table a second glance. I walked straight down the hallway.

Nicole left. Silence swallowed the empty hall whole.

I walked to the archway and leaned against the freezing marble pillar. The cold wall pressed against my back. It cleared my mind like never before.

The safe haven I once believed in was nothing but a cage built on hate and scheme.

I closed my eyes slowly. I whispered to myself:

I'm done.

Four years as a docile trophy wife. Done. Finished.

"Sienna! Stop right there!"After I walked out, Matteo chased after me like crazy. His grip locked around my wrist like steel, his eyes bloodshot, his voice trembling violently. "Why did you hide it from me?! Four years... You are Corvus! Why did you watch me look for you on the dark web like an idiot?!"I yanked my hand free, my eyes dead calm. "Hide it?""Four years ago, I wanted to handle financial hedging. You told me D'Angelo women only need to arrange flowers at home.""Three years ago, I wanted to go to Wharton. You said maybe later, then turned around and took Nicole to Milan.""Two years ago, I was sketching system architectures in the study. Your mother called me a terrible wife. Did you open my financial drafts at the bottom of the closet even once?"Every question hit him like a slap across the face.Matteo froze in place, face white as paper. A line of chaotic, agonizing thoughts exploded above his head:[I never opened them... I thought she was just killing time... What t

"Gentlemen, I've officially secured the 'Corvus' risk channel!"In the twelve-seat executive boardroom at syndicate headquarters, Nicole stood in front of the projector in a fiery red dress, making her loud announcement. She slammed the compiled hedge agreement onto the table, glancing around with eyes overflowing with triumph. "At the opening ceremony, we will take the stage as the chief strategic partner!"Matteo sat at the head of the table, giving a small nod. A rare, clear look of approval crossed his handsome face. "Great job, Nicole. The family needs key people like you to break new ground."Outside the room, two mob soldiers kept watch, whispering low. Their floating thoughts popped up right in front of my eyes:[Miss Nicole is insane! She even bagged Corvus, the hardest target on the dark web. Following her is a fast track to the top!][Compared to her, that useless doormat locked up in the manor is worthless. She should've given up her seat long ago.]The corner of my lips pu

"The door code was changed?"Three days before the summit, I walked up to the manor gates only to be stopped by the security system's red error tone. The old butler ran out in a panic to open the gate, cold sweat dripping down his forehead. "Mrs. D'Angelo! You're finally back! The system was reset during routine maintenance last week... You weren't here, so..."I ignored his excuse and pushed past him into the living room. The coffee table that used to be stacked with my files was cleared spotlessly. A heavy rose perfume hung in the air. In the master bedroom, my old books and clothes were completely gone. The sheets were pulled tight like a standard hotel room.I raised an eyebrow. They weren't even trying to hide it anymore? In Matteo's eyes, I was just a trophy wife who could be erased at any moment.I walked straight to the study to grab the rest of my official seals. The heavy study door was left cracked open. The encrypted computer on the desk was still glowing. Matteo wasn't in

"The Don's office came prying again."Chloe sneered, handing me a file in the studio.I kept my eyes glued to the monitor. "Let them pry. The deeper they dig, the more clueless they look."I never set foot in the manor again after that day.By my second month living at the studio, Matteo finally lost his cool.He realized I wasn't just throwing a tantrum. His lazy check-ins turned into an absurd offer to send two bodyguards to babysit me.His sudden care was hilarious. At three in the afternoon, a rhythmic knock echoed off the heavy door.I opened it. Matteo stood there in a tailored dark suit. He held over a dozen luxury shopping bags, looking ridiculously out of place."Do you like them? Early anniversary gifts..."His floating thoughts flashed:[Women are such a pain. Whatever, I'll humor her.]I glanced down. Top-tier haute couture. Usually, I was the one buying him gifts. All he ever bought me was some Chanel hand lotion, and now he was suddenly buying designer bags?He stepped in

"Keep stalling Nicole's request for the 'Corvus' money laundering guarantee. Indefinitely."I sat in my secure Brooklyn studio, Bluetooth earpiece in, giving cold orders.Chloe gasped over the phone. "Got it! Let those mob old-timers sweat! Also, the elite black-market financial summit sent us an exclusive deal. Your cut is insane if you run the hedge.""Take it," I said, cold and firm.I stayed in my Brooklyn underground studio for two whole weeks. No Alessandra picking fights. No Matteo's fake-nice gentleness. The freedom was intoxicating.Half a month later, late at night, I went back to the manor to grab some files. The living room lights were blaring.Matteo was actually sitting on the couch, waiting for me.Hearing my footsteps, he snapped his head up. Above his head, a line of confused thoughts popped up:[What the hell is she doing lately? She doesn't come home, and she used to cling to me at this hour. Did I give her too much slack?][Whatever. She ran away for so long, but sh

The monitor flickered in my pitch-black Brooklyn studio.Under the alias "Corvus," I dropped a bombshell on the dark web—a leaked report on the FBI's audit trail. In thirty minutes, twelve global syndicates went wild. Bidding hit the roof.Late at night, I sat at my marble desk in the bedroom, staring cold-eyed at live financial charts. The door behind me swung open.Matteo walked in, bringing the midnight cold with him. He shed his suit jacket, and his eyes lazily brushed my screen. He froze. He gave me a second look. Above his head, his true thoughts flashed:[Why is she looking at those complex charts again? She promised to drop finance when we got married.]Outwardly, he said nothing. He just turned and walked into the bathroom.Right then, my encrypted inbox popped up with an email from Nicole. She attached a file, acting fake-nice. "Sienna, this top-tier risk report just leaked on the black market. It's brilliant. You should read it when you're bored. Learn a thing or two."I loo
