Loren’s pov

“How could you be so careless?!” Rue boomed, “Pilar, where did you get these classless performers from?”

Pilar’s voice filled my ears as she whispered, “Calm down, she’s talking to another dancer. If you panic, she’ll notice you.”

I traced the hand holding mine and realised it was Pilar’s.

Relief washed over me but Rue was still furious. “That’s enough. The performance is enough; I need to change these clothes since this stupid performer ruined it,”

Rue stormed down the hall, her

Loren’s POV I sat up, staring at the doctor while he packed up his things. “Well? Say something already.”He sighed, “Her feet are healing well but her hands still need some attention. She needs full bed rest for the next two days,”Killian was already giving me a meaningful glance above the doctor's head. “She’ll get it,” he promised and I rolled my eyes. The doctor stood, “I’ll check back in tomorrow.”Nigel escorted him to the door and Killian sat beside me, taking my hands into his and kissing them. “Your stubbornness almost got you killed back there,”I leaned, managing a smile. “That’s why you love me right? We’re both stubborn,” I chuckled before pausing. Killian leaned down and I gasped as he lifted me. “So, where’s the bedrooms?”“I’ll lead the way!” Pilar chirped as she rushed in, “I’ve surveyed the entire house, chosen the biggest room, and decided which ones you’ll stay in.” Killian groaned. “What did you do? I’m sure Loren wanted to stay in that room.”I shook my hea

Loren's POV“Did I stutter the first time?” Killian growled, “We are not making any deals with you.”My eyes widened as Killian lifted me and started walking away. “What are you doing, Killian?” I snapped, staring at Rue’s diminishing figure. “She has taken everything; we have to get it back.”“And we will,” he didn’t miss a step, “But we won’t exchange your mother’s catalogues for it.”Killian settled me in his car but Rue spoke up quickly. “That car belongs to Whitmore Group. It belongs to me and she can’t stay there,”Killian wordlessly carried me out and brushed past Rue like she didn’t exist. Nigel quickly hailed a cab. We got in and my throat tightened. Because of me, Killian Whitmore was forced to hail a cab for the first time in his life. “You just spoke over me back there,” I said. “I have the right to make my own decisions.”“Your decisions often involve you getting hurt. Again and again.” Killian wasn’t backing down. “I told you before, right? I’m ready to become the v

As I sank into the pool, the water filled my lungs, a burning sensation flooding my chest. I could see Killian rushing toward the pool and I parted my lips to tell him to stop and save Rue instead. Our entire plan depended on him saving Rue. She set a trap and I couldn’t let him fall for him. But I was my husband's biggest weakness and dove into the water immediately, pulling me out. “Loren,” he tapped my cheeks, the veil long forgotten. “Loren, please say something,” he pressed my body against his, as if the proximity would force the words out of my throat. And when I finally coughed out water and spoke, it was only two words. “S-stop, Killian!”It was at that exact moment Rue started clapping. All the guests turned but Nigel was already escorting them out. Rue grinned. “You actually almost got me there; what a fantastic performance,”Despite being soaking wet — she looked like she’d won a lottery.“If I hadn’t done this entire drama, I would still be in the dark,” she walked

LOREN’s POV “Go on, Minta, take off the gloves.”I glanced at Killian. I was completely and utterly trapped. So I did the only logical thing. I collapsed, feigning a fainting episode. I could hear the sound of a chair scraping the ground but Rue spoke up. “It’s okay, Killian. Edmund will carry her upstairs; it must be the stress,”I felt myself being lifted and the breath in my lungs was almost knocked out as pain tore through my hands. Someone was squeezing them. Hard. I bit hard on my tongue, almost tasting blood before the pain eased and I felt Edmund moving. “What was that?” Killian’s voice sounded far. “Nothing, Killian. I just wanted to make sure he was holding her right,” Rue said, “You seem to care a lot about Minta?”“I’ve always had a liking for unprivileged people, why are you acting like this is breaking news?”Good. Killian. My smart husband. Throw it back at her. Edmund finally stopped and my body hit a soft surface. My heart sank when I realised he was still

RUE’s POV I narrowed my eyes when silence followed. I hadn’t liked Minta from the start; I was just tolerating her. And Killian? His sudden love? There was no smoke without fire and all the alarm bells went off when I realised Edmund stopped his mandatory fifteen-minute check-ins. Killian trying to stop me, made me even more suspicious. And now that I was home, it was time to find out what was really going on. “If you don’t open the door right now—“The door slammed open and Minta stepped back, letting me in. My eyes scanned the pristine room, noting that everything was intact. “What were you doing in here?” I snarled, still staring at the room instead of her. I turned and slapped her across the face. “Didn’t you hear me? Who gave you the right to enter my room and lock the door?”“Have you forgotten your place?!” Even though he was a few feet away, I could feel the fury radiating from Killian. I glanced from him to Minta. Was he falling for the maid now? I worked so ha

“Isn’t he already married?” I snapped before I could stop myself. Big mistake. Rue stood up, glaring at me. “And what’s that got to do with you?” she spat, “Are you here to question me or follow my orders?!”I lowered my gaze immediately, biting hard on my bottom lip. The irony made my skin burn. She wanted me to help her sleep with my husband. If the circumstances were different, I would have slapped her across the face until she came back to her senses. Rue must have been irritated by my response because she snapped, “Speak up already or leave!”“No, no, no, Ma’am!” I rushed out, my voice almost betraying my emotions. “I’ll start the preparations now.”I rushed out of the room, my heart pounding as my feet carried me past everyone and everything until I lost my footing on the stairs. Someone grabbed my wrist before I could fall, but my veil already did. My heart sank. No, no, no!I flailed my other hand trying to catch it when I locked eyes with the person who saved me. Kil
