Chapter 5 Deliberately provoking Pinel

In the quiet car, Narice's voice on the other end of the phone was crystal clear, even without the speaker turned on.

Upon hearing the news, I responded in a low voice, 'Okay, I know.'

After ending the call, I frowned sadly.

The Harris family's attempt to suppress the news was expected.

It is not advisable for the matter of Carey and Mary to be handled in this manner. However, I cannot fight against the large Harris family.

Kent noticed my tense face and unintentionally side-eyed me, as if going with the Harris family was a difficult task. His handsome face sank, and he spoke in a cold voice, 'Why do you look bitter and hateful? If you do not want to go to the Harris family, you can say so directly. Otherwise, it seems like I am forcing you to go.'

I froze and quickly explained, "It's not because of going to the Harris family." I was confused.

Kent's expression relaxed upon hearing this, indicating that the incoming call was related to that matter.

He turned to look out the car window and said, "Don't worry, what you're concerned about won't happen."

What did he mean?

The car arrived at the Harris family's grand and spectacular main residence shortly after.

Two figures got out of the back seat one after the other.

I turned around and closed the car door smoothly. A big hand beside me immediately reached out and naturally held my right hand.

My body was stunned, and I subconsciously wanted to break free, but the grip of that big hand tightened. At the same time, I received a very oppressive cold look from Kent.

I settled down and walked with him towards the house door.

I've been to the Harris family's main house before since I've been dating Carey for three years.

However, each time I feel uncomfortable, especially with the arrogant and indifferent look of Carey's parents. I tremble in fear of what I might have done wrong.

Contrary to Kerry's statement, Grandpa Pinel, who was described as uncommunicative and unapproachable, showed a kind and amiable side when he met me. This made me feel more at ease.

If I'm not mistaken, Kent brought me to the Harris family today to announce their engagement.

As they entered the house, the butler greeted them with a smile, his eyes fixed on the visitors and the hands they were shaking. His face flushed with excitement.

I greeted him politely, saying, 'Hi, Linny.'

Kent stood beside me, his face expressionless. He spoke briefly, 'Linny, is Grandpa available to see us now?'

The butler nodded and turned to me, asking politely, 'Is Ms. Miriam here to see Carey?'

Before I could answer, Kent interrupted in a deep voice, 'She's with me. Lead the way.'

The butler was taken aback but didn't ask any further questions. He simply replied, 'Yes,' and turned to show us the way.

We walked through the lavishly decorated and clean aisles to the living room area. Kent looked around but didn't see Kerry. Suddenly, he asked, 'Linny, has Grandpa Pinel gotten over it yet?' 'Not yet,' replied the butler who walked ahead.

'Young Master Carey knelt for a day yesterday, and His Lordship is just determined not to see him.'

Kent snorted coldly at those words.

Carey was expected to kneel until Grandpa Pinel saw him, but he eventually gave up. It appears that determination is nothing more than this.

Kent noticed me beside him, and I was pursing my red lips slightly with a sullen expression. Kent sneered coldly and asked, 'What? Heartbroken to hear that he's been kneeling all day?'

Only two people heard the voice. I frowned and glared at him, saying, 'Don't label me. You're overthinking it!'

Afterward, I realized I was too reckless in front of him and quickly looked away. I added in a small voice, 'I couldn't possibly be heartbroken for him. We don't have a relationship anymore.'

Kent looked interested and satisfied with her answer, hooking his lips in a vivid expression.

The butler led us to the domestic elevator. We arrived at a closed study on the second floor. Kent opened the door and we entered the study together.

He knocked on the door and informed Grandpa Pinel that Kent and I had come to visit.

After a few moments, an old man's voice came from the study, 'Come in.'

Pinel Harris stood beside the desk, holding a Chinese brush and practicing Chinese characters on the paper.

Grandpa Piniere, the most authoritative member of the Harris family, had long since withdrawn from the group's operations but continued to advise them behind the scenes.

Piñel had transformed the small Harris family into one of the most powerful capitals in the country. I saw a hint of majesty in him.

As I was about to greet Kent, he tightened his grip on my hand, signaling me not to speak.

I looked at him in confusion as he shook his head gently.

Grandpa Pinel heard the commotion and looked up to see two men

holding hands in front of him.

Kent met his gaze and said, "Grandpa, Miriam and I got our license yesterday, and I came over today to tell you about it."

Pinel was stunned, gripping his quill tightly and looking incredulous.

The study was eerily quiet for a while, with a depressing atmosphere.

I felt worried and looked up to see Pi Neier pick up a heavy ink stone near Kent's desk.

In the next second, Piñel slammed it heavily towards Kent.

My heart raced as I instinctively pulled the man next to me back.

Suddenly,

a loud 'Bang!' echoed through the air as the heavy inkstone shattered where Kent had just been standing.

Pinel's voice broke the silence, 'This is simply nonsense! Do you think the Harris family needs any more trouble right now?'

Kent couldn't help but look at me one more time before turning back to Pinel and saying in a subdued tone, 'I didn't mean that.'

He then took me by his side and said, 'It seems that you're not in a very good mood today, so we'll come over to visit next time.'

Before I could react, I was led away from the study.

As soon as the door closed, I heard a rattling sound of things being smashed from inside. It appeared that Grandpa Pinel was infuriated.

I followed Kent's footsteps silently, and we returned the same way we came.

It was evident that Kent had intentionally come over to add to the chaos.

Was he itching to see the Harris family's joke?

The two had already returned to the first floor.

As he walked towards the entrance hall, he saw an upright figure in front of him.

His expression changed as he recognized the person.

'Miriam!' Kerry exclaimed, walking quickly towards them. 'Did you come to see me? I just went to your house looking for you!'

As he approached, he saw Kent and me holding hands. His face instantly sank, and he sorrowfully asked, 'What do you mean by this?'
