LOGINChapter Five —“ Get out of my life "
The twins sat quietly in the back seat as I drove out of my parents’ compound. I wiped my tears with the back of my hand, blinking hard so the road wouldn’t blur. My chest felt tight, like someone had wrapped a rope around it and kept pulling. I was scared even though I took the brave step to tell my mother that I was ready for what was next but a part of me still wanted things to work with Drew Drew was the only man I had ever loved since the one-night mistake that changed my life forever. After that night at eighteen, after the man who got me pregnant disappeared like I never existed, I had sworn I would never love again. And yet… I loved Drew. Even when he made it hard. Even when he didn’t love me back. I had endured so much because I believed patience could fix anything, because I had fallen in love with this man after my life had been shattered years ago and I vowed to never love any man But now his past lover had resurfaced and I knew nothing would ever be the same again. Still, I lied to myself that i was read for whatever was coming. “Mom?” Liam’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I glanced at him through the rearview mirror. His eyes were fixed on me, too observant for a child his age. “You’re crying,” he said softly. I forced a smile. “I’m okay, baby.” He shook his head. “You don’t have to worry about us.” My hands tightened around the steering wheel. “I heard Grandma,” he continued. “She said you have to go see our stepdad. And if he doesn’t want you to spend time with us… we’ll be fine.” My heart broke. Before I could respond, Luna leaned forward between the seats, her eyes shiny with unshed tears. “No,” she said firmly. “We won’t be fine.” I swallowed, I wasn’t ready for this conversation. . “Since Mom got married to him, she doesn’t see us much,” Luna continued, her small voice trembling. “We only see her on TV with him. She only comes once a week.” Her lip quivered. “I miss the way we used to be.” “ Don’t be selfish, Mom did all of this for us “ I took a deep breath and slowed down, pulling over for a moment. I turned around to face them. “Do you want to see where Mom lives?” I asked gently. Luna nodded immediately. Liam didn’t say anything, but his eyes lit up just a little. I knew that look. He wanted to see too. I started the car again and turned the wheel. If Drew was going to spend the weekend with his lover, then I would spend it with my children. The twins were silent when we arrived in front of the house. They stared up at the massive building, their mouths slightly open. “This is where you live?” Luna whispered. I smiled weakly. “Yes. Wait till you see inside. And my room too.” “ It’s so big …” Liam added . “ I wonder why we can’t stay here with you “ Luna sighed and I smiled at her . “ You guys can spend the weekend here with me …Just three of us “ For the first time that day, excitement slipped into my voice. I stepped out, took their hands, and walked to the door. The moment I opened it,My breath caught in my throat. On the couch. My couch. Our couch Drew had his hands tangled in another woman’s hair, his mouth pressed against hers, she was moaning to his touch . For a split second, time froze. Then instinct kicked in. I covered Liam and Luna’s eyes with my palms immediately. “Close your eyes,” I whispered urgently. “Don’t look.” My heart pounded so hard it hurt, I staggered but maintained my balance . Drew pulled away when he noticed me. His face drained of color, he was as shocked to me but he didn’t look like he regretted what he was doing. I guided the twins back outside without a word, my hands shaking as I opened the car. “Stay here,” I told them, trying to keep my voice steady. “I’ll be back.” Luna grabbed my wrist. “Mom…” “I’ll be right back,” I repeated, I caught a glimpse of Liam, his fist was clenched that moment , I knew even him wanted to protect me . I closed the door gently and walked back inside. Drew was buttoning his shirt when I returned. The woman beside him crossed her arms, looking me up and down slowly. “So,” she said with a smirk, “I finally meet who he settled for in person. You’re even worse than I imagined.” I didn’t look at her. My eyes were locked on Drew. “I thought you were at your parents’ house,” he said, as if this was some small misunderstanding. Something snapped inside me. “Aren’t you supposed to be out of the country?” I screamed. “But you’re here? cheating on me in our house! With her!” “Lower your voice,” he said calmly.. “You’re overreacting.” Overreacting? I laughed hysterically, then cried at the same time. My fists hit his shoulder again and again as everything I had buried exploded. “I endured you!” I screamed. “For two years! I tolerated everything!” I hit him again. “You stopped touching me! You stopped looking at me! And still, I never looked at another man!” Tears streamed down my face. “I was loyal to you!” I cried. “You promised to love me! To protect me after our vows ! But you mistreated me. You broke me every day!” The woman scoffed. “He never loved you. It was me. It’s always been me.” I turned to Drew, I was shaking to the point my legs were beginning to fail me . “Then why didn’t you marry her?” I yelled. “Why marry me and torment me?” He suddenly grabbed my wrist, stopping my hand mid-air. “How about you?” he shouted. “When were you going to tell me you had kids?” My heart skipped. “You and your family lied to me,” he continued angrily. “Those twins are not foster children! They’re yours!” I stopped struggling to let go of his rip grip. . “Yes,” I said firmly. “They’re mine.” I was done trying to hide the only source of my joy . “ Yes ! Liam and Luna are my children! Yes !” Kirah scoffed . “ How pathetic!” I placed my hand on my stomach. “I carried them for nine months. I struggled all my life with them. We have been through hell together.” My voice shook, but I didn’t stop. “I am tired of hiding them. Yes! they are my children.” He shoved me back onto the couch. I gasped as my back hit the cushion. Drew walked to the drawer, pulled out an envelope, and tossed it at me. It landed on my lap. “Those are divorce papers,” he said coldly. “Sign them. I lost every feeling I thought I had for you the day I found out you lied to me.” His eyes were empty. “Sign it,” he repeated. “And get out of my life.”Chapter 159The silence around us after my last statement was so heavy that if a needle should drop on the floor right now, it would be as loud as a trumpet.Everyone was staring at me as I had suddenly grown another head, and I honestly understood the shock on their faces. Never in my life had I seen my mum, Alice, and Harry this shocked.Alice was the first to move. She stepped closer to me and slowly raised her hand toward my forehead.“Alia…” she called softly. “Are you okay?” she asked, her eyes searching my face. “Like… are you really okay?”“I’m fine, Alice.”She looked at my face again before looking at my mum.“Are you sure?”“Yes, Alice. I’m fine. I’m in my right senses.” i nodded.“This doesn’t make sense,” my mum suddenly said. “What are you saying, Alia? What do you mean your ex-husband Liam’s father? You were not even married to him when you had the twins. You had them in high school, remember?”She then turned to the doctor, her eyes suddenly teary.“Please help my daugh
Chapter 158“A problem?” I stuttered, tucking a few strands of hair that were falling on my face.Oh, for fuck’s sake. What could be the problem now? I thought, staring at the doctor, who was looking at me with an unreadable expression. Then a thought came to my mind, and my heart sank instantly.Could it be that something had happened to my son?“No…” I shook my head quickly and held my head with both hands. “Don’t tell me something has happened to my son.”I felt myself losing my balance, and before I could stumble backwards, I felt Drew’s hand on my back.“Alia—”I ignored him and faced the doctor again.“What happened to Liam?” I asked, my voice already shaking. “Has his condition gotten worse?”The doctor quickly shook his head.“No, nothing has happened to him. His condition is still the same.”I breathed out loudly.“Oh, thank God.”For a moment, I had thought the worst had happened. I took a deep breath.“Then what is the problem?” I asked, looking at him again. “Why did you say
Chapter 157I felt a tap on my shoulder and jerked up immediately. My eyes opened slowly. For a second, I forgot where I was until I saw Drew standing next to me, watching me with tired eyes. Then I turned to my side and saw Luna sleeping, with little bruises on her face, and my memories were back intact.I rubbed my eyes before turning my gaze to the window. I could see rays of sunlight coming from outside and reflecting on the corner of the room.“Shit,” I whispered before quickly turning toward Luna, afraid my voice had woken her up.Thankfully, she was still sleeping peacefully. I turned back to Drew.“I slept?” I asked, guilt immediately eating me up.“Alia, you were awake almost all through the night,” Drew said quietly. “You barely slept for thirty minutes. There’s no reason to be angry with yourself. You were obviously tired.”“That doesn’t matter. I shouldn’t have slept,” I muttered. “There’s no reason for me to sleep and rest when Liam…”My voice shook.I held myself and took
Chapter 156 If it were possible to fly down to Luna’s room, I would have. No matter how fast I moved my legs, it felt like I wasn’t moving fast enough. Finally, the nurse stopped in front of one of the doors and opened it. I quickly brushed past her and entered the room. The moment I stepped in, my eyes landed on my baby girl. Luna was lying on the hospital bed, her little eyes staring up at the ceiling. My heart squeezed, and I suddenly got teary. Those were tears of joy. “Luna…” My voice cracked. Her eyes moved from the ceiling to me. “Mummy?” she called excitedly, but I could hear how weak she sounded even in her excitement. I almost broke down right there. A tear slipped from my eyes. I quickly wiped it away, sniffed in, and rushed to her bedside before taking her hands. “Oh, my baby.” I kissed her forehead again and again. “How are you feeling?” I asked, scanning her body. There were a few bruises on her arms and face, but nothing compared to the image my mind had c
Chapter 155Alia’s POVI finally stepped out of the testing room after what felt like the longest few hours of my life.My legs felt heavy as I walked down the hallway. I had been poked, tested, and asked so many questions that I had stopped keeping track of what they were doing to me. All I cared about was getting back to Liam.A nurse walked beside me until we reached the end of the hallway.“Ma’am, you can go back to your family now. The results should be ready tomorrow morning.”My heart sank at those words.“Tomorrow morning?”The nurse nodded.“Isn’t there any way you can get the results tonight?” I asked desperately.“I’m sorry, ma’am. The doctors need time to go through everything properly.”I looked at her with frustration in my eyes.“Please,” I begged. “My son doesn’t have much time.”“I understand,” she said gently. “But rushing the results could cause mistakes. The doctors want to make sure everything is correct before they proceed.”I lowered my eyes. Tomorrow morning. It
Chapter 154Drew’s POVI kept staring at the hallway where Alia had disappeared with the nurse. She had been gone for almost two hours now, but it felt like an eternity.Every time I heard footsteps coming from that direction, my head immediately lifted, hoping it was Alia coming back with good news. But it was never her.I rubbed my palms together and looked down at the floor. I had never been this scared in my entire life. Not even when things had gone wrong at my company, when I had lost millions, or even when I had been in situations where I wasn’t sure how things would end.None of those things could be compared to this.Because this time, there was nothing I could do.I couldn’t walk into that emergency room and save Liam myself.I couldn’t take his pain away. All I could do was sit here and wait And I hated it.This situation made me truly believe there were some things money couldn’t buy. Because if money could save Liam right now, I was ready to bring everything I owned just to
