MasukChapter 7
“Alia!” My sister screamed in my face. “When will you ever learn to do things right? Do you know how important your marriage to Drew is to this family?” I looked at my kids. I could see the panic on their faces. “Babies, go to your room,” I said softly. “I’ll join you later.” “Okay, Mommy,” Liam replied. I knew they didn’t want to leave my side. I could see it in their faces. But I didn’t want them witnessing another chaos. Not anymore. I watched until they were out of sight. “Alice,” I said, turning back to her. “Did you even bother to ask what caused the divorce before pouring all the blame on me?” “I don’t need to ask,” she lashed out. “You are the reason, Alia. Same old you, always ruining every opportunity you get. You had just one job—stay married to Drew Jacobs. And you failed. Whose fault is that? Mine? Or Dad’s? Or Mum’s?” “He was with another woman in our home,” I said, my voice shaking. “The kids saw him.” She frowned. “Wait… you didn’t say you were taking them to your home.” “I didn’t think it was important,” I replied. “We walked in on Drew kissing Kirah.” “And?” Alice scoffed. “Please. We all know that witch was Drew’s side chick. But he is your husband. Instead of standing here looking like a failed wife, go and get your man back.” “That’s easy for you to say,” I shot back. “You don’t know what it’s like living in that house. The past two years have been nothing but hell for me. But I endured it because I wanted things to work so badly.” “Do you think life itself is easy?” my father cut in, my mother standing beside him. “Alice has been married for ten years to a man we chose for the growth of this family. Not once has she complained. But you—always whining, always shining in disgrace. When are you going to grow up and stop disappointing this family?” “Stop! Just stop!” I screamed, covering my ears. “I’m tired of this comparison. Alice this, Alice that. I am not Alice. I am Alia. She didn’t marry Drew i did. Just because she’s lucky doesn’t mean I’m not trying hard enough.” “You’ve always been unlucky,” my mother said coldly. “That’s why you gave birth to bastards.” “Mum!” I yelled. “How dare you call my children bastards?” “Well, what are they?” she said angrily. “You don’t even know who their father is. Are they not bastards?” “Mum, that’s enough,” Alice cut in, her eyes filled with pity. “Oh, Alice, let me speak some sense into her,” my mother continued. “You came to us two years ago hungry, with those children. We gave you a better life. And what did you do? You messed it up again, Alia. Again.” My body shook. I could take any insult thrown at me but never at my kids. “You can insult me all you want,” I said, my voice trembling. “I don’t care. But never—never insult my children. They didn’t wrong you in any way. And who told me to hide them from Drew? You and Dad did. Didn’t he tell you he wanted the divorce because he found out about them?” They went silent. I laughed bitterly. “I guess he didn’t tell you. If I had told him from the beginning, he would have either accepted them or called off the wedding. But you told me to hide them. And now it’s my fault?” “Alia,” my mother said softly, switching tactics. “You know I love those kids. They are my grandchildren. I was just angry. But you need to go back to Drew. Don’t you want your children to stay happy? We make sure they don’t lack anything here.” “There’s no going back,” I said firmly. “It’s over.” Her face hardened again. “You will go back, Alia. Even if you have to crawl on your knees. That marriage must work. You can’t call yourself a mother when you’re depriving your children of a good life you can’t give them.” “Stop being stubborn,” my father added. “Drew is a good man. He’s just angry. He’ll take you back if you beg.” “I already signed the divorce papers,” I said quietly. “So all this”—I pointed at the three of them—“is useless.” “You didn’t think to inform us before signing?” Alice asked. “What for?” I replied. “He already has a baby on the way.” “What?” they all shouted at once. “What baby?” “Kirah is pregnant.” “You stupid girl!” my father screamed. “If only you had given him an heir, another woman wouldn’t have taken your place!” I was done. Completely drained. “I have nothing else to say,” I said, heading toward the door. “And where do you think you’re going?” My father blocked my way. “Inside,” I replied. “I need to tuck Liam and Luna into bed.” “You have no place in this house anymore,” he said coldly. “Not after the shame you’ve brought to my name. Get out.” “Dad, you’re doing it again—chasing me out.” “And whose fault is that?” I smiled bitterly. “You’ve never seen me as your daughter. I’ve always been a tool to you. And when a tool is no longer useful, you throw it away. I’m done being your tool.” “I’ll get my kids and leave.” “You don’t have to take the children,” my mother said. “Let her do whatever she wants,” my father replied. I looked at Alice. She looked torn, but she stayed silent. Before I could touch the doorknob, Liam and Luna opened the door. They had been listening the whole time. I held their hands. “Let’s go, babies.” “Aren’t you going to pack their things?” Alice asked. “No,” I replied. “I came here with nothing, and I’ll leave with nothing. I won’t take your parents’ precious money.” I loaded the car with the belongings Drew had sent. Whatever love I had left for this family died the moment I drove away. I looked at my kids—the only people I had left. That night, I booked a hotel. By morning, we would leave this city and everything in it behind.Chapter 153“Doctor…” Drew and I said at the same time.“How are they?” Our voices clashed together once again.Drew and I exchanged glances before looking back at the doctor.“You go first “Drew said taking a step back.My mum ,Alice and Harry all seemed to be surprised by Drew's concern but I wasn’t I knew why he was this way.I focused my attention back to the doctor. The doctor’s eyes moved between Drew and me for a moment. Then his eyes settled on me.“Who are you to the children?”“I’m their mother.” I stepped closer immediately. He gave a small nod before looking at Drew. “And you?”Drew opened his mouth, but no words came out. He hesitated for a second before Alice answered for him.“He’s a family friend.”The doctor nodded. “Alright.”My heart was beating so hard that I could hear it in my ears.“Please, can we go see the kids now? They are fine, right?”The doctor breathed out. “Your daughter is doing well.”My hands immediately went to my chest. “Oh, thank God.”I closed my
Chapter 152“I’m sorry, Alia…” Alice’s voice kept shaking as she held onto me. “I’m so sorry…”She knelt in front of me, both her hands gripping my shoulders as tears flowed uncontrollably down her face.I had just one question to ask. A question I’d been too scared to ask. It was every mother’s worst nightmare.Right now… not knowing was killing me.My lips parted slowly.“Are…” The words just couldn’t get past my throat. I swallowed painfully before forcing them out.“Are my children…” I ran my hands through my hair. I just couldn’t say the last word.My eyes drifted back to the blood covering Alice’s clothes. There was so much of it. How could two little children lose this much blood? My fingers dug into Alice’s arms as I looked at her with so much desperation, trying to summon the courage to say what I was about to ask.“Are my babies still alive?” I blurted out, my voice shaking uncontrollably.I didn’t get a reply. My whole body started trembling uncontrollably.I looked from Ali
Chapter 151I took a step back as those words left Harry’s mouth. My entire body went weak. I trembled in a way I never had before. My hands grabbed the chair beside me for support because it felt like I could pass out at any moment.I looked at Harry.“What twins?” My voice shook as the words left my mouth.I waited for his reply. He had to be making a mistake.“There has to be some misunderstanding.” A nervous laugh came out of me even as my eyes filled with tears.Harry still didn’t say anything. His silence frightened me more than any answer ever could.“Don’t just stand there. Answer me!” I screamed.“Alia, I…”He stopped.“You what, Harry?” I cried. “Go on! I’m waiting. You’re not talking about Liam and Luna.”He looked away.My hands slowly curled into fists at my sides.“No…” I shook my head. “No, that’s impossible. They’re at home.”I turned to Drew “You saw them, didn’t you?. They were fine when we left.”Drew didn’t say a word. His face had gone pale, and I could see the pani
Chapter 150Alia’s POV“Kyle is no longer being an idiot, is he?” Drew asked, dropping his cutlery onto his plate before wiping his mouth with a napkin.I pushed my plate aside and took a sip of water before answering.“No. He’s not. In fact, he has already signed the divorce papers.”“Hmm.” He nodded. “That’s good news. Let me know if he becomes a problem for you or Alice again.”“Nah, don’t worry.” I swirled the wine in my glass. “I can handle him. I don’t need you playing the hero.”He smiled.“Really? Is it such a bad thing to want to protect the woman I love?”I coughed loudly, almost choking on the wine I had just swallowed.“Are you okay?” He immediately leaned forward and handed me my glass of water.I waved my hand while coughing.“I’m fine.” I chuckled between coughs. “I just wasn’t expecting that.”“Sorry.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “That was a bit too forward.”I looked at him and laughed.“Just give me a warning next time.”The waiter came over and cleared our plates b
Chapter 149Drew’s car came to a stop in front of one of Seattle’s finest five-star restaurants. I looked out the window before unbuckling my seatbelt. One look at the place was enough to tell me it wasn’t just another restaurant. Everything about it screamed luxury.I turned to Drew.“Isn’t this place a bit too fancy for a business dinner?”“It’s perfect,” he replied before getting out of the car. Before I could even reach for the handle, he was already opening my door.“Thank you.” I smiled as I stepped out.“My pleasure.” He bowed his head. I shook my head, smiling, and together we walked toward the entrance. The moment we stepped in, the first thing that caught my attention was the beautiful melody coming from the pianist. The music somehow calmed my nerves.I glanced around the restaurant. The interior was superb. Candles glowed on every table, and the waiters stood in position as though they had been expecting us.But what stood out to me was that there wasn’t a single customer
Chapter 148 Drew’s POV I sat inside the car for almost two minutes after turning off the engine. My fingers tapped absentmindedly against the steering wheel before I glanced at the clock on the dashboard for what had to be the tenth time. Seven o’clock. Right on time. I let out a slow breath. What if she’d changed her mind? Knowing Alia, it wouldn’t even surprise me. She could easily open the door, look me straight in the eyes, and tell me she’d suddenly remembered another meeting. I rubbed the back of my neck and laughed quietly to myself. “You’ve negotiated billion-dollar contracts,” I muttered. “Why are you acting like a nervous teenager?” Because this wasn’t business. Not to me. I knew exactly what tonight was. I had called it a business dinner because if I’d been honest and asked her out on a date. She would’ve said no before I’d even finished the sentence. This was probably the closest thing I’d get to a date with her, and I wasn’t about to ruin it by pushing too har
