ANMELDENChapter 7
“Alia!” My sister screamed in my face. “When will you ever learn to do things right? Do you know how important your marriage to Drew is to this family?” I looked at my kids. I could see the panic on their faces. “Babies, go to your room,” I said softly. “I’ll join you later.” “Okay, Mommy,” Liam replied. I knew they didn’t want to leave my side. I could see it in their faces. But I didn’t want them witnessing another chaos. Not anymore. I watched until they were out of sight. “Alice,” I said, turning back to her. “Did you even bother to ask what caused the divorce before pouring all the blame on me?” “I don’t need to ask,” she lashed out. “You are the reason, Alia. Same old you, always ruining every opportunity you get. You had just one job—stay married to Drew Jacobs. And you failed. Whose fault is that? Mine? Or Dad’s? Or Mum’s?” “He was with another woman in our home,” I said, my voice shaking. “The kids saw him.” She frowned. “Wait… you didn’t say you were taking them to your home.” “I didn’t think it was important,” I replied. “We walked in on Drew kissing Kirah.” “And?” Alice scoffed. “Please. We all know that witch was Drew’s side chick. But he is your husband. Instead of standing here looking like a failed wife, go and get your man back.” “That’s easy for you to say,” I shot back. “You don’t know what it’s like living in that house. The past two years have been nothing but hell for me. But I endured it because I wanted things to work so badly.” “Do you think life itself is easy?” my father cut in, my mother standing beside him. “Alice has been married for ten years to a man we chose for the growth of this family. Not once has she complained. But you—always whining, always shining in disgrace. When are you going to grow up and stop disappointing this family?” “Stop! Just stop!” I screamed, covering my ears. “I’m tired of this comparison. Alice this, Alice that. I am not Alice. I am Alia. She didn’t marry Drew i did. Just because she’s lucky doesn’t mean I’m not trying hard enough.” “You’ve always been unlucky,” my mother said coldly. “That’s why you gave birth to bastards.” “Mum!” I yelled. “How dare you call my children bastards?” “Well, what are they?” she said angrily. “You don’t even know who their father is. Are they not bastards?” “Mum, that’s enough,” Alice cut in, her eyes filled with pity. “Oh, Alice, let me speak some sense into her,” my mother continued. “You came to us two years ago hungry, with those children. We gave you a better life. And what did you do? You messed it up again, Alia. Again.” My body shook. I could take any insult thrown at me but never at my kids. “You can insult me all you want,” I said, my voice trembling. “I don’t care. But never—never insult my children. They didn’t wrong you in any way. And who told me to hide them from Drew? You and Dad did. Didn’t he tell you he wanted the divorce because he found out about them?” They went silent. I laughed bitterly. “I guess he didn’t tell you. If I had told him from the beginning, he would have either accepted them or called off the wedding. But you told me to hide them. And now it’s my fault?” “Alia,” my mother said softly, switching tactics. “You know I love those kids. They are my grandchildren. I was just angry. But you need to go back to Drew. Don’t you want your children to stay happy? We make sure they don’t lack anything here.” “There’s no going back,” I said firmly. “It’s over.” Her face hardened again. “You will go back, Alia. Even if you have to crawl on your knees. That marriage must work. You can’t call yourself a mother when you’re depriving your children of a good life you can’t give them.” “Stop being stubborn,” my father added. “Drew is a good man. He’s just angry. He’ll take you back if you beg.” “I already signed the divorce papers,” I said quietly. “So all this”—I pointed at the three of them—“is useless.” “You didn’t think to inform us before signing?” Alice asked. “What for?” I replied. “He already has a baby on the way.” “What?” they all shouted at once. “What baby?” “Kirah is pregnant.” “You stupid girl!” my father screamed. “If only you had given him an heir, another woman wouldn’t have taken your place!” I was done. Completely drained. “I have nothing else to say,” I said, heading toward the door. “And where do you think you’re going?” My father blocked my way. “Inside,” I replied. “I need to tuck Liam and Luna into bed.” “You have no place in this house anymore,” he said coldly. “Not after the shame you’ve brought to my name. Get out.” “Dad, you’re doing it again—chasing me out.” “And whose fault is that?” I smiled bitterly. “You’ve never seen me as your daughter. I’ve always been a tool to you. And when a tool is no longer useful, you throw it away. I’m done being your tool.” “I’ll get my kids and leave.” “You don’t have to take the children,” my mother said. “Let her do whatever she wants,” my father replied. I looked at Alice. She looked torn, but she stayed silent. Before I could touch the doorknob, Liam and Luna opened the door. They had been listening the whole time. I held their hands. “Let’s go, babies.” “Aren’t you going to pack their things?” Alice asked. “No,” I replied. “I came here with nothing, and I’ll leave with nothing. I won’t take your parents’ precious money.” I loaded the car with the belongings Drew had sent. Whatever love I had left for this family died the moment I drove away. I looked at my kids—the only people I had left. That night, I booked a hotel. By morning, we would leave this city and everything in it behind.Chapter 103Drew’s POVI stepped out of the elevator and headed straight to my office, loosening my tie slightly.Kirah’s appearance really bothered me. I had a feeling that if I didn’t act now, her obsessiveness might lead to something bad. I’ll have to tell my private investigator to keep an eye on her.I had suspicions of her being behind Alia’s attack, but at the same time, I didn’t think Kirah would go through that length. She had never been a violent person. She might throw words here and there, but she hasn’t been the type to try to hit someone with a car or send a dead rat as a package. So I’ll just have to watch her from afar… to be sure.I got to my office door but paused, my eyes drifting to Alia’s door.Closed.I was about to go in when I heard a voice I knew too well in Alia's office.Harry.My hand tightened on the doorknob, my fingers pressing harder against the metal. My jaw clenched instantly. So he was here. This was the first time he was coming to Alia’s office… and
Chapter 102Drew’s POVIt took everything in me not to turn back and look at her as she passed me or even acknowledge her presence when our eyes met.If I had known this was the restaurant she was in, I would have gone somewhere else.I wouldn’t say I was avoiding her… no. I just decided to give her some space after everything that happened in Las Vegas. Her words… they broke something in me. I had always thought of Harry as someone who had a great effect on Alia and the kids. I saw how they reacted when he was around them, how she trusted him… but hearing her accept that Harry was a father figure and even go as far as comparing me to him and wishing he was the one who turned out to be the kids’ father…That broke the camel’s back.I’ve had sleepless nights since I got back. Even when I manage to sleep, I see Harry in my dreams… posing as Liam and Luna’s father. It was a nightmare for me.“Drew.”The lady in front of me tapped my hand lightly.I blinked and looked at her. “Yes?”“I’ve
Chapter 101I stayed still. I wasn’t expecting our eyes to meet. Why was he looking in my direction?Drew looked away and continued talking to the lady in front of him like nothing had happened. He didn't even look surprised to see me.Did he already know I was going to turn? What he thinks shouldn't bother me in any way.I turned to Priscy, who was already watching me closely.“The food is taking time,” I let out.“Aliaaaaaa…” She dragged my name.“Yessssss…” I mimicked her tone picking up my glass.“Something is definitely going on between you both. What just happened now? And why is Drew so cold towards you?”Was it that obvious?“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said quickly.Right on time, the waiter arrived with our tray of food.“Oh thank goodness, I’m starving.”The waiter dropped the food and left.“This looks yummy,” I said, grabbing my spoon immediately. Trying to change the topic.“Alia…” Priscy leaned forward, narrowing her eyes at me. “I know you. This is what
Chapter 100 Alia’s POV Two weeks had passed since the Las Vegas trip. Life had gone back to normal… or at least that’s what it looked like on the outside. Work was going on fine. Everything about my company was excelling. Despite my absence in Silvershore, I made sure it didn’t affect the growth of the company. I had also sorted out the kids. I realized the school Liam and Luna were attending in Silvershore had a branch here in Seattle. I contacted the school and arranged a temporary transfer since the break was over and they needed to resume classes. Now they were both attending school here. Once I’m done with everything here, we’ll return to Silvershore and they’ll continue from there. I hated that I was moving them around like this… but my hands were tied. I glanced at my watch as I parked in front of the office building. I was still early. I had thought I’d be late after dropping the kids off at school. I picked up my things and stepped out of the car, shutting the do
Drew’s POVAll my life, I had never cared about what people think about me or what they say. I’ve never been the type to get shaken by words or feel hurt. But right now… it felt like my heart had been pierced by a sword.Alia’s sword. Her words… telling me I had no right to act like the kids’ father… it shattered something in me.I kept a straight face like I always do, because I’ve never been one to show how I feel… but inside, I was breaking. When will Alia realize how much I truly want to be part of their lives?Liam and Luna are all I think about.Yes… I messed up in the past. But that doesn’t mean I’ll be a bad father to them.I’m trying… I’m really trying to be better but Alia will never see it,She still sees the old version of me.People have done worse and still got forgiven… but me she wasn't ready to give me a chance.I let out a tight breath and sat on the bed forcefully, my hands running through my hair. She said this was her fight before slamming the door on me.But I don
Chapter 98Alia's pov I stepped out of the bathroom, rubbing the towel over my hair.I had rushed in earlier without thinking, and it wasn't until I got inside that I realized I didn’t bring any clothes with me.Now I was stuck in just my bathrobe.I let out a small breath, adjusting it slightly around my body.Normally, I would have just changed in the room without thinking twice… but Drew was here.I glanced toward my luggage. I’ll just pick something and go back inside.“When did this start?” I heard Drew beside me.“Jesus!” I screamed, holding my chest in shock.I turned to see Drew leaning against the wall beside the bathroom door, legs crossed, stretching a phone toward me.“You startled me… and why are you there?”“Didn’t mean to scare you, but you still haven’t answered my question.”“What question?” I continued rubbing my hair, walking toward my luggage. He stepped in front of me. His jaw was tight, like he had been holding something in.I stopped and looked at him. “What, D
Chapter 36 Drew’s POV I didn’t expect to see her that day. I was only at the hospital to pick up my monthly routine check-up result. But as I got out of the car, I heard someone shouting. I ignored it and went on my way, but as I got closer, the voice sounded more familiar. That’s when I turned
Chapter 34“Let go of my hand,” Kyle yelled, struggling to get away from Drew.“I’d like to see you try,” Drew replied without shifting his stance.Kyle pulled and twisted, but Drew’s grip didn’t budge.I stood there, trying to catch my breath, still trying to comprehend how Drew had appeared out o
Chapter 33I tiptoed out of the room so I wouldn’t wake my mum. The nurse had given her medication, and she fell asleep almost immediately.Everything happening at once was too much for me to bear. We hadn’t even finished grieving our father, and now this beast had done this to my sister. I slipped
Chapter 31Alia POVMy bed was scattered with clothes I had pulled out of my luggage. I stared at them for what felt like minutes, wondering what to wear. Everything I picked felt too much, flashy, and wrong. A red gown caught my eye. I picked it up and held it in front of me at the mirror. No… tha
