Emelia's POV

Mason's nostrils flared with rage as he grabbed a fistful of my hair and yanked my head back. With his other free hand, he took the pendant that grandpa Antonio had given me and pulled on it so hard the clasp broke. He then pushed me backwards onto the sand.

"You call me a monster but yet you willingly accepted help from one knowing it would benefit you…" Mason sneered. "After all I did for you, after everything I've sacrificed, THIS is the thanks I get?"

I looked up at him as anger blazed in my eyes. "Don't you EVER put your hands on me like that again!"

"Or what, dearest Emelia? You'll run to your saint of a grandfather? Or will you run back into the arms of your ex-husband that you can never seem to make up your mind about?" Mason raised a mocking brow. "For someone you claim to have no feelings about, you sure as hell were willing to put yourself in harm's way for him!"

"So because he's my ex, I'm supposed to just let him get KIDNAPPED and be left at the mercy of your

Emelia's POVThe weight of Mason's words hung high in the air as if it were the blade of a guillotine. Grandpa Antonio's downcast expression as he stared at the gun cast a shadow over all of us despite the bright midday sun overhead. What Mason was asking grandpa to do was nothing short of madness. Yet, his cruel smirk and arrogant expression only showed that he was willing to be the villain in everyone's eyes instead of admitting he was wronged by his own family. The air was quiet and still as we all waited on bated breath, yet dread and bewilderment caused me to be the one to break the silence first. "You can't do this, Mason!" I cried as tears blurred my vision. "Please, this isn't right!" Mason avoided my gaze. "Unfortunately, you don't get to be the judge of that." "But she is right..." Grandpa's voice was rough and hoarse. "What you're asking me to do goes beyond the realm of revenge because you're taking pride in seeing my beloved grandchildren suffer." Mason hardly spared

Emelia's POVRelief washed over me at the sight of Victor, despite the current state he was in. His shirt was torn in different places as barely dried blood stains decorated the white fabric. Bruises peppered his once flawless complexion while his lip was busted and right eye blackened. It broke me to see him like this—to know that he was subjected to such cruelty. And for what? Some bitter revenge built on a foundation of lies? The Caruso's were just like every mafia told in media. All they ever cared about, all they ever to protect, was the image they so carefully crafted. Each piece of glass carefully constructed into the illusion of power and dominance, when it was nothing but a fragile ego behind it all. Caterina was the first and only one to break the illusion of perfection the Caruso's tried to sell to others—and THAT was what they wanted revenge for. With her gone, it only made sense to blame the next person they could: grandpa Antonio. Revenge was nothing but a fool's ga

Emelia's POV"Don't be ridiculous." Mason scoffed. "You think I'd be so heartless as to go after sweet Emelia?""Don't take me for a mindless old man!" Grandpa yelled. "I know you have her! I know she wasn't with the group of CEOs you released from the ship!"Axel's hand was still over my mouth, but he swiftly replaced it with duct tape he'd pulled out of his jacket. "This is the part where you play nice and stay quiet, princess. I can't have my boss knowing I fucked up by keeping you here…""So, sit put, love. I'll come back for you later." He then dragged me back to the mast and bound my hands behind it before leaving me alone on the ship to presumably join Mason at his side.I tried to squirm my way out, but it was no use. Axel made sure to make it tight this time. All I could do was helplessly listen to Mason and grandpa as they continued to argue."I would never knowingly drag that angel into this dark world of mine. I'd protect her from the world, and that includes YOU and that G

Emelia's POVI held my breath as if I were diving off the deep end into a pool, and stood as still as a statue. What exactly was Mason's involvement in all of this? Why was he involved? What was his plan?I shook my head. No, maybe it was just a coincidence. Mason was a common name, right? Maybe—"Easy now, Axel." The voice on the other line came through clearly—and was filled with contempt. "I helped build your little empire. Don't think I'm incapable of tearing it down with one call. Besides, there was a bit of a hiccup. It seems you're not the only one incapable of doing one simple job."There was no mistaking that silk, easygoing voice—one that was now laced with so much contempt and venom. That was Mason. And he was the reason why me and Victor were taken hostage!"Sorry, Mr. Leone…" The red-haired man, Axel, mumbled."That's better. At any rate, this may be a salvageable job. Have your men set sail for the mainland. I'll be there to meet you.""Yes, boss…"I ducked behind the cou

Emelia's POV"Tsk, tsk, tsk..." A man at the helm of the ship spoke up. His hair was fire red and his eyes lit up like a kid at a candy shop. "Put the guns down, pretty boy. I think my 15 or so armed men kind of outdo your lonesome self, right?"Victor moved in slow motion as he crouched down to put both the pistol and rifle on the floor."Good, good!" The red-haired man clapped his hands. "So, here's the deal, right? This pretty boy right here," he pointed at Victor, "has to stay aboard the ship. I know, I know. A whole, big cruise ship to himself? What a steal!""The caveat is that me and my men have to stay, too." He laughed. "Think of it as a surprise security detail, you know. We can't have important cargo being left unguarded out in the middle of the Atlantic now, can we?"""W-what are you going to do with me?" I asked nervously. The red-haired man tilted his face to the side. "Oh, darling, you're free to go! The rest of the other big shots are just over there," he pointed to my
