I was pouring cereal when I heard Brian’s door open.

Great he’s ready for work again.

He stepped out wearing a blue pants, a white shirt halfway buttoned, tie hanging untied around his neck, struggling to tie it as he’s hurrying.

God.

I would have rushed to help him, but I definitely didn’t want to let him go to the hospital this morning.

I mean it’s not all about work work and work.

He reached for his keys.

“Alright, I’ll be back by four. I have an early rotation at the hospital.”

I blinked.

Nope.

Not today.

I walked in front of him and pressed my hand against the door handle before he could turn it.

“You,” I said, lifting my chin, “are not going anywhere.”

He blinked. “What?”

“You heard me.” I folded my arms. “You need a break.”

“A break?” His lips twitched. “Lisa, I have surgeries…”

“Nope,” I cut him off, grabbing the keys from his hand. “Today is Brian’s rest day. Ordered by me.”
