Chapter 2

Author: Rococo
The vase shattered resoundingly, just as my bellow rang throughout the gala hall.

Still, everyone was laughing in contempt.

"I guess he's really nuts! He first claims he's Miles' grandson, and now he's the heir to Skymex too? It's killing me!"

"Exactly! Why does he think he could impersonate Mr. Langford? Ellie and Jennie would always bring Harold along for their public appearances."

Despite the snide comments, I glared at my Ellie and demanded, "Do you really think you and Jennie are the rightful heirs of Skymex?"

Jennie's gaze flickered, but she soon composed herself and tugged on Ellie's sleeve. "It's alright. It's a big day for the company—Mom will be here soon. Just let it go."

But for me, just seeing Jennie's reaction told me that she remembered her place and was therefore worried.

After all, despite being Adonia's richest man, my grandfather only had one son—my father.

As for Ellie and Jennie, they were actually orphans—children of my mother's younger brother. Back in the day, my mother took them in, saying she didn't want to see them suffer.

In other words, they had no biological connection to my father or my grandfather, and certainly wouldn't get to inherit Skymex Group.

However, Ellie did not care about what I said, and was even glaring at Jennie, her brow furrowed, "He hurt Harold! Are you going to make Harold take this lying down?!"

Then, wheeling on me, Ellie snapped, "It seems that your schizophrenia is getting worse. Let's have Mr. Zimmer take you to the asylum right away!"

Just hearing the mention of asylum left me seething with hatred, as I was reminded of the agony when Harold had skinned me.

After all, both Ellie and Jennie worked blood and sweat to win his heart, and were therefore simultaneously scheming against me.

And as a medical student, Harold's greatest ambition was to witness what set a dead person and a living person apart.

After he told them that, Ellie and Jennie worked to put me on Harold's surgical table, who then cut me into pieces.

Though I lived with Ellie and Jennie in Langford Villa for eighteen years—since I was just a child, they were doing all they could to please Harold, allowing him to impersonate me while coming up with all sorts of ideas to help him torment me.

And now, I finally understood—family was nothing to those two, and only love mattered.

But I was also curious… When it came to love and privilege, which of the two would they choose?

With that thought, I chuckled coolly, "I'll ask you one last time—who's Miles Langford's grandson? And the heir to Skymex Group?"

Even before Ellie and Jennie could speak, Ian Smalling—the son of one of Skymex Group's business partners—rushed up to slap me.

"How dare you!" he shrieked. "You're just a bum given alms, but you dare to strut here in Skymex Group?! Why don't you look in the mirror first?!"

I recognized Ian—he didn't just have the hots for Ellie; he was always dreaming about marrying her to gain access to my family and take over Skymex.

And after he heard the rumors that Harold was heir two months ago, he had been spending his time sucking up to Harold, earning Harold's favor so that he would help him hook up with Ellie.

Regrettably, he was sucking up to the wrong guy—Harold wasn't just going to be the heir, he was Ellie's secret lover, whom she had invested billions in for years.

Refusing to let Ian's slap go unanswered, I kicked him in the gut as I snapped back, "And you're just the youngest son of a third-rate company's CEO! Who do you think you are, laying a finger on me? I just have to say the word, and your family goes bankrupt!"

Ian was left clutching his stomach and staring at me in disbelief, "How dare you kick me! Not even my parents hurt me! Just wait—you'll pay for this!"

Harold hurried to help him up, sighing apologetically, "Don't stoop to his level, Ian—he's crazy. I'm so sorry you had to go through that."

I smirked at Harold right then. "You're the crazy one here—you could have walked away with all the money Ellie and Jennie gave you, but instead you had to come here and pretend to be the heir of Skymex Group."

Then, wheeling on Ellie and Jennie, I pointed at the door and growled coolly, "If you two are so keen on your little role-play with your lover, then take him with you and leave my company this instant!"

Soon, the netizens who had been flaming me clicked into the livestream link posted on the company account.I watched calmly as the live comments cursed me without holding back, and started by pulling out a stack of receipts listing a ton of extravagant expenses, asking them. "Does anyone here know what these purchases were for?"No one really responded, so I continued, "Look here with your own eyes. All these receipts stack up to 60 billion dollars—and it's only the credit card records of Ellie Langford and Jennie Langford in the past twenty years."I'm not even taking into account all the costs incurred for their other needs in that timeframe, or the presents that my father and grandfather showered upon them."Now, that begs the questions—if the Langford family had been abusing them both, would they have been afforded such financial freedom, or their comfortable jobs in Skymex Group?""They have been disinherited because they had hurt the family's trust—and myself, the heir to t

Before I could actually speak, however, Ellie leapt to my mother's defense. "See, Miles?! It's all your son's fault for spoiling James so much that he can't even humble himself for a second!"If only he got rid of that chip on his shoulder and was as gentle as Harold, there's no reason we wouldn't have doted on him."After Ellie was done, Jennie quickly added, "Please, James—can't you see? Your mother's just trying to temper your personality, so that you can become a fitting heir to Skymex Group. You have to understand where we're coming from…"I simply laughed coolly at their brazen behavior. "So you're saying my father is to blame for not raising me right? For everything that's happening now?"How despicable. My father took you in out of kindness, grooming you to be executives, only for you to slander him in death and torment his only son."Seeing that my grandfather still wasn't humoring them while I remained impervious to their brainwashing, they finally bared their fangs, wit

Ever since my father's passing, I had grown to cherish Ellie and Jennie as family even more.As for my mother, she had been my pillar of mental support, and I had always listened to everything she said. And yet, she had never lifted a finger to stop Harold, Ellie and Jennie as they threw me in a mental asylum, nor did she avenge me after Harold disemboweled me alive.Instead, she had told Harold that I would have forgiven him anyway, while letting him marry both Ellie and Jennie. Therefore, I really didn't feel anything seeing my mother still defend Harold so mindlessly—just as I didn't care to keep this illusion of a mother-son relationship.Once I was reborn and told my grandfather about that, he gave me his support, even getting a lawyer to draft the legal document ahead of time.As I watched my mother with a silent smile, she picked up the document and tore it into pieces, hollering, "How dare you try to disown me?! Don't you know that you'd be breaking your father's heart?!"

After the gala ended, Grandpa didn't return to his manor, instead coming with me to my villa, as I called up over twenty movers, telling them to remove all of Harold's belongings. However, the butler Ernest kept obstructing me. "Please, sir—I don't know what Harold did to offend you, but why would you chase him out?"I rolled my eyes at him. "This is the villa my father left for me. Why should I let some nobody stay here?"Even so, Ernest kept clinging to Harold's room door defiantly, crying out to Jennie, "Please, Mr. Langford! If you insist on this, I will have to call your mother and tell her to punish you!"Hearing that, I turned to my grandfather's bodyguards, who promptly tied him up. "Actually, Harold's not the only one who's leaving," I snorted. "You're leaving too, Ernest! Some ingrate who works together with an outsider to bully his master has no right to stay!"Ernest howled on top of his lungs right then, "How dare you! Where's your conscience?! I served this house w

Hearing that familiar voice, my mother, Ellie and Jennie promptly let me go.When I saw the imposing elderly man, my tears finally flowed—the pain didn't stop me as I ran over and hugged him. "I missed you so much, Grandpa!"Miles Langford patted my head tenderly, wincing when he saw my forehead which was red and swelling. "Sorry for being late and allowing you to get hurt. Don't worry—I've got your back!"On the other hand, my mother, Ellie, and Jennie were trading looks of panic, as none of them had anticipated my grandfather's arrival.Taking a deep breath, my mother eventually mustered her courage and approached Grandpa, saying, "Father-in-law, I thought you didn't like rowdy celebrations… You could have told me, and I would have received you at the door…"However, Grandpa simply smirked, "Who are you calling father-in-law? I only have one son and one grandson. Don't even try to impersonate someone who doesn't exist!"Seeing my puffy eyes, he patted my back while glaring shar

Ellie and Jennie were both glaring at me with ashen faces. Ellie snapped, "Let me give it to you straight, James Langford—you're the one who should leave! We both have executive powers in this building, while you're just a student!""What's going on here?!"That was when a fair and graceful middle-aged woman squeezed her way through the crowd, looking at us and demanding, "Why are you all just standing around and not taking your seats?!"She was Quincy Waltz—CEO of Skymex Group, and my biological mother. And yet, she was hurrying to Harold's side, wiping his tears as she sighed, "Oh, Harold—don't cry. Just tell me, who did this to you? I'll punish them this instant!"Ellie was at once pointing at me, snapping angrily, "James Langford! Who else would have the audacity to bully Harold while I watched?!"My mother slapped me across the face right then! "You've really gotten full of yourself!" She hollered. "Bullying Harold just because we've been good to you?! Kneel and apologize
