Damon's POV “Please just let her go.” Emily begged as I observed the strange fellow in her room. It was palace rules not to receive guests in any other parts of the palace, except the living room specifically designed for them. I looked at Emily, and wondered how much more I could take. Every single day with her makes it seem like I made a mistake. “Who are you?” I asked the girl I saw in my Luna’s room. “I'm Zyna, Sir.” She said, bowing. I looked back at Emily without saying a word. “The friend who works on the farm?” I asked her, and she confirmed with a nervous bob of her head. I chuckled a little before leaving them both in the room. That's the thing with keeping women less busy. They start to create work for themselves, investigative jobs. As I walked back to my room, I wondered how I could get time off Emily's hands. I didn't want her interacting directly with anyone but Nala and I. I needed to consult with Nala. “Are you in?” I knocked on her door and ope
Damon's POV “That's not what I'm doing.” Emily replied. “Then tell me why your watch is not in your hand? Did you get busy? Was it in your way of doing something? Why did you take it off? Oh, or is my ring gonna start bothering you anytime soon too? Would you like to take that too off?” I was so pissed, and already failing at keeping my cool. “I visited Dathan earlier in the day.” She swallowed hard. “I must have left it there.” “Is that a probability or you're sure you did?” I asked her. “I'm sure I did.” Emily replied. “May I ask why you were there?” I asked, towering over her. “No.” She said, I paused a bit. Maybe she's lost her mind. “No, you may not.” “That's just a fancy way of asking. Pardon my manners.” I chuckled a bit. “Why were you in Dathan’s room? Alone?” I added for emphasis. “I need peace and quiet from the chaos in this palace.” She replied. Emily's head was bent in subordination, but her replies couldn't have been more rebellious. “And
Emily's POV “Hey.” I said, as soon as Dathan picked the call. “I see you're one stubborn girl.” Dathan laughed. “I'm your Luna.” I said, in mock contempt of how he addressed me. “Pardon me, Ma'am.” Dathan replied in the same tone. “I'm really sorry for whatever I've cost you.” I apologised, getting to the business of why I called. I didn't care if Damon had my calls intercepted. If he wasn't gonna let me see Dathan physically, I had to do it some other way. “Are you?” He asked, humour in his voice. “Are you really sorry?” “Uhm. I guess that depends on what being sorry entails.” I replied to him. “It kinda involves repenting, not repeating.” Dathan said, chuckling. “Then I'm not.” I replied, with utmost conviction. “But that's if it's totally fine with you.” “I've got nothing to lose.” Dathan said. “Lost them all already.” “You don't mean that.” I brushed his attempt at stoicism away. “What are you doing?” I asked him. “Do you want to invite me to d
Dathan’s POV “Breathe.” I told Emily as we walked through the dark corridors in the palace. “I'm trying to.” She replied, chuckling nervously. “Alright.” I said. I didn't want to embarrass her, or make her too self conscious. “Are you sure this is safe?” Emily asked. We were already approaching the elevator at the end of the corridor. At that point, if Damon opened his door, I'd have been caught in the most unexplainable of situations. Hand in hand with his Luna, in the dim lit corridor, heading for an elevator to shoot us all the way up. Thankfully, he didn't, and in no time, we were on our way up to the top of the palace. “Ever been in an elevator before?” I asked Emily. “No.” She replied. I could tell from how unsteady she was. We were defying gravity, and the feeling could make a first timer sick in the stomach. “It's no big deal, really. You'll get used to it.” I put her at ease. Emily and I stood side by side, she was too scared to move an inch, for fea
Emily's POV “How are you, really?” I asked Dathan. He seemed confused, which in turn made him defensive, a little too defensive. “I don't know these days.” He answered. “Why? Just say it. However it comes to your mind. That's the most original feeling.” “My mother wouldn't have thought that.” He replied. “You still miss her, don't you?” I asked, looking at his sunken eyes and jutting neckline. “Yeah.” He admitted. “Even though we never really were best of friends.” “Why is that?” I asked him. It's weird to imagine. Mothers are usually closer to the last born. “I've always asked myself that question.” He said, sighing. “At least up till last year. A curious mind is a disaster waiting to happen.” “What does that mean?” I asked him. My curiosity was beginning to peak, and Dathan didn't look like he was in a rush to tell the story. “I asked all the hard questions, had to. I noticed mom was beginning to get a little too aggressive. Stopped asking, I even contem
Damon's POV “Emily!” I yelled in the corridors. The palace was almost empty, it was night, and my voice was just coming right back to me, no response. There was just one more confirmation I needed to make my conclusion. I stormed to Dathan’s room, and opened the door without any further preamble. There was no need for it. Dathans room was neatly put together, but deserted. I had to do something, I also needed assistance. “Farh?” I asked as I heard a grunt over the phone. “Yes, sir.” He answered. His voice was very deep. “Emily is missing.” I said. I didn't mean to raise an alarm. But my mind was already playing different types of scenarios. I blinked rapidly, trying to imagine what she could be up to, but my mind kept failing me. I was fatigued, but not just that, I actually didn't know her too well. I thought about all the places in the palace she could be, cuddled up with Dathan. Their absence couldn't be coincidental. One sure would know where the other was.
Emily's POV As I closed the door behind me, I expected the worst. I expected loud yelling voices, maybe the brawl would even escalate into their wolf forms. , My heart went out to Dathan, as I felt guilty for putting him in that situation. “I think we need to talk.” Damon's voice broke into my thoughts. I froze as I heard him. Somehow, I've had the guts to do whatever I wanted all the while, maybe it was adrenaline, maybe it was just the fact that I was beside Dathan. “I'm sorry.” I croaked. “Don't be.” He replied, with a wave of his hand. “I just needed air.” I added. “I hope you got enough?” He asked, looking at my face. I felt I saw a little smile creep up on his face. “Nearly.” I replied to him. “Why nearly?” He asked me. “You've been out for almost an hour.” “I'd need more than that to solve the puzzles here.” I replied to him, pointing to my head. “How do you feel about me?” He asked me. “I haven't had much time to form an opinion.” I said.
Emily's POV “Hello, sunshine.” Damon turned and greeted me as soon as I opened the door to his room. Usually, he was still sleeping, or grumpy. He'd grunt and make all sorts of noises, without properly acknowledging me. I'd bear it all, telling myself that it was only a matter of time before he was out of his palace. But that Tuesday was different. I had on pink pants and a silky black shirt that Nala picked off the rack, using her discretion. I thanked her for it silently in my head as I paired it with the pink pants and it went so perfectly well. I packed my hair in a high ponytail, and put on some fancy bands with coral decors. I looked like the perfect PA, even I knew it. It's how I saw women dress online. I didn't know who I was gonna be working with asides Damon, I needed to make a good impression. “Good morning, Damon.” I replied, feeling a little bit uneasy. “You look pretty.” He said, smiling like a puppy. “Thank you.” I replied again, out of courtesy. “I'
Emily's POV “I hate this life.” I said to myself as I stopped by Zac's house to pick the rest of my stuff. “I'm heading for Zachary's apartment.” I said to the doorman, hoping he'd recognise me. “Oh, yes I remember you. But Mr Zac is not at home.” He said. “That's fine, he knows I'd be coming to grab my things.” I said, in a rush. I also tried to hide the fact that I was getting a little bit fidgety. “I hope he didn't hurt you?” The man asked. I was literally at the verge of screaming for him to just let me go, but I saw that it was out of concern and experience, so I let him off the hook. “I really don't want to talk about it,” I said, smiling sadly. “I understand.” The man replied. “Policy is that you cannot be in over ten minutes, so I'd ask that you be quick.” “That will do. Thank you so much.” I said and dashed into the elevator. I know it was a little stupid that I'd do that stunt on my own, knowing that Zyna had access to his place, but I'm sure if anyone
Damon's POV “How do you feel?” I asked Emily. We'd just ridden back from the hospital. Zac was to be operated on in a few hours, Adrian's diagnosis was out, and they found absolutely nothing wrong with him, but they had to watch him. “I don't know.” She replied. She sat still in her car, even minutes after she'd turned the engine off. I waited for two full minutes before she whined down the glasses. “That's normal.” I said, rubbing her hand. But she drew back suddenly from my touch. “Something is wrong.” I said. “I'll see you later, Damon.” She said, starting the engine. “There's no way I'm letting you leave like this.” I objected. “It's not up to you.” She replied, and pressed a button to shut her car glasses. I stubbornly leaned on it, and so the glass didn't come up. “I've spent way too much time in the gym for this to be a threat.” I boasted. “Emily, please tell me what's on your mind.” “My whole life is, Damon!” She yelled. “It's easier on you than it i
Adrian's POV “What are you doing here?” I yelled as I saw Damon emerge. The doctors were still running around with their tails between their legs, trying to get a diagnosis for what was up with me. “I think I should be asking you that.”He said quietly. He stood in the doorway. “I thought I heard Emily's voice.” I said, ignoring him. “That's because she's here.” He said sarcastically. “Hello.” I greeted her as she forced her way in. “Why are you here?” She asked. “Aren't you here to see me?” I replied to her questions with mine. “I don't owe you that.” She said, brushing it off. “I had a crisis in the taxi I boarded, good guy rushed me here.” I explained. “What crisis?” She asked, looking frightened. “That's not why we are here, Emily.” Damon reminded her, pulling her closer even if she wouldn't budge. “No one knows. I started bleeding suddenly, and it stopped as suddenly as it started, but I passed out.” I explained. “Who's attending to you?! Yo
Damon's POV “I think we should go and check up on Zac.” Emily said. We'd just had the best morning of our lives, at least of mine. “Why are you bent on ruining the fun?” I winced. “I'm not ruining anything, Damon. This is literally all we can do.” She chuckled. “I can't believe I let Farh see me like this” “Well, I can.” I said. “And you're sure that is not going to be a problem?” She asked. “With who? Me? Hell nah.” I answered. “Not you. You know who I'm referring to.” She said, “I don't think they're best of friends, Emily.” I assured her. “I hate to be on this side of things.” She sulked. “Isn't it too soon? Seeing as this is just the Beginning?” I asked her. “Beginning of our business together you mean?” She looked me in the eye. We were sprawled across my office floor, naked. “This isn't business. Why are you doing it?” I asked her. “Because I want to.” Emily replied. “I'll make sure to give that answer every time I feel this way.” I jok
Emily's POV “This is not the conversation I expected to have when I walked into your office this morning.” I said. “Same. Although it's one I've always wanted to have with you” Damon smirked. “I would've wondered why that is, but then, I remember you're both possessive and manipulative. Something about seeing your exes thriving with other people irks the fuck out of you.” I shot at him “For the first time, love, you're wrong,” Damon said. “I have a wife whom I shared with the man I almost killed.” “That was against your knowledge, Damon. Don't act like you'd have let it happen if you knew.” I said. “Something else you've gotten wrong. You think I want Zyna to bear my heir?” Damon asked me. I looked at him wide eyed. I couldn't believe what he was saying. Worse still, I'd begun to imagine a million things. “Yet you pushed her to go get pregnant by another male?” I asked him. “I didn't. She wanted it.” He answered. “And you claim to have let it happen?” I ask
Damon's POV I was naked, and beginning to feel a bit cold. “Here's your clothes.” Emily brought me the rest of what I'd been wearing. My shirt was a wreck, but the pants were manageable. “Did I hurt you?” I swallowed before asking. I wanted to know. And as much as I wanted to, I also didn’t. I would not have been able to live with myself if I singed even the smallest hair on her. “Not me, just him, and this pretty bathroom.” Emily answered. She had her back turned towards me. “Please look at me.” I begged. “Damon, I want to leave.” She said, “Damn! I'm that bad.” I soliloquised. “Don't emotionally blackmail me, Damon.” Emily replied. “I wish that's what I was trying to do. I'm simply stating the obvious. You can't wait to be away from this mad man, with an unstable wolf. I mean, he's an Alpha, and doesn't even have control of his wolf. Is it because he wasn't even supposed to have one in the first case? Or because he wasn't supposed to survive his first
Emily's POV “What are you doing here?” I asked him, stunned. “I'll shout, call for security. Why are you here! But it was locked from outside! Get out!” I searched frantically for my purse with pepper spray, but I remembered that I left it in Damon's office. “You heard I was out of the hospital huh?!” “Emily, please calm down.” Zac begged. Around his eyes were circles far darker than Adrian's. “What the hell are you doing in here?!” I asked him again. “Have you forgotten that I work here, Emily?” He replied, trying to calm me down. “No, I haven't. But you have a lot to explain to the authorities, not me, and I'll make that more if you do not get out of here right now!” I screamed. “Please lower your voice.” He begged. Then I remembered that Damon was waiting outside for me. He could probably make out a few noises, but nothing enough to barge in. “Damon is outside, if you do not get out right now, I'll scream his name.” I threatened. “How would I Emily? you kn
Damon's POV “That was rough.” I said as Adrian left us both. But she didn't look like she wanted to talk about it. “Shall we go out, somewhere different?” I offered. “Where do you have in mind?” Emily asked. “I was going to let you pick that.” I said. “Haven't been in one since Freda died, well, except for those meetings you organised to scream at my lawyers and I.” She said. “Emily, everyone was acting out, I admit, but things were, and still are, rough.” I tried reasoning with her, “I wish all those didn't happen, but I've been through more than you can imagine.” “Damon, that's no excuse.” She said, “Nothing is ever an excuse enough for you to treat me the way you did. You were nasty, very nasty. And you knew I was mourning.” “I agree, Emily. I'm dropping the charges, I said that already. And I'll do whatever you want.” I begged. She looked at me skeptically, and looked out. I heard her give a deep sigh, and I knew that it couldn't mean something good.
Adrian's POV “Come on guys, don't stop your little love play on my account.” I said to Damon and Emily. I can't believe that was the girl that just left me a few minutes ago at the hospital. “Why are you here?” Damon, who's supposed to be my friend, asked. “Am I trespassing?” I chuckled. “No, no. Come on, come on.” He said, standing up and giving me his seat. I took it. Not only because I wanted to prove that he was younger, stronger, and less smarter than me, but because I was also beginning to feel slightly light headed. “Thank you.” I smiled at him, “and hello!” I acknowledged Emily. “What are you doing?” Emily asked. “Don't you think I should be asking you that? I mean, I just met your hands on another man's chest, in his office. It didn't look like it's business yall were transacting.” I replied to her. “Well, you have no right to. Seeing as we are over.” She said, crossing her arms over her chest. I thought I heard a chuckle escape Damon's lips. “Ca
