Chapter 19

I spent the day in the office at home. Catching up on paperwork that I had missed yesterday. Ricky had come by to drop off more and I just sighed, not even the strength to argue with him about the workload. Everything was taking twice as long as it normally did and I would glance at my phone every minute or so, seeing if Victor would call. The feeling of helplessness was not one I was accustomed to and it made me antsy. My foot tapped against the floor or my finger against the desk.

“Dear?” I looked up at Helena, who had was leaning in the doorway of the office. “You should eat something for lunch.”

Looking at the clock on my phone, I saw it was one-thirty already and nodded. “Did you want me to make something?”

She smiled. “No, I picked up something from the store on my way back today. I have it set on the table.”

Nodding, I put down the paper in my hand and stood up. I stretched, feeling the strain in my muscles. My body was involuntarily flexing th
