Chapter 2

Author: Favorable Breeze
"I'm begging you, Ms. York. Can you please come and help Mr. Theodore?"

For a moment, my mind went blank. I couldn't believe what I'd just heard.

Five years ago... I died?

Nathan, the boy who'd always treated me like his whole world, refused to give up half his life to save me. Instead, it was his brother, the cold and emotionless boy, the one everyone called the Grim Reaper, who pulled me back from death.

Even so, I steeled myself and said, "Sorry. Nathan needs me more tonight."

I would rather be seen as ungrateful than fail Nathan.

But the moment I hurried to his side, I was met with mockery. I was called a lovesick puppy, always at his beck and call, and nothing more than a plaything.

'Yeah, I really am pathetic. Serves me right for letting myself be treated like this.'

But I wouldn't make the same mistake again.

I wiped away my tears and forced back the hurt, then tightened my grip on my phone.

"Is it too late to repay the man who saved my life? If Theodore really needs me tonight, I'll go. I'll give him everything he needs!"

Liam's voice was filled with relief. "There's still time, Ms. York. I'll send you the location right away. If Mr. Theodore wasn't gravely injured and it wasn't a full moon on top of that, I'd never dare go against his orders and tell you this. He runs a real tight ship."

I understood that Theodore probably saved me out of duty, not affection, and he didn't want me clinging to him because of gratitude.

And I wasn't going to his side because Nathan broke my heart.

I just wanted to repay the man who once saved my life.

-

But when I rushed to the hospital's VIP ward, I froze.

Standing outside the door was Madeline Lewis, the school's most popular girl. She was anxiously trying to force her way in.

"Let me in! It's the full moon, isn't it? How do you know he doesn't need me? Theo! Theo, please let me in. I'll help you through this!"

For some reason, I almost laughed. Nathan said Madeline wasn't that kind of girl, yet here she was, throwing herself at his brother's bed.

Liam refused to let her in. When he saw me, he immediately opened the door, his eyes wet with relief.

"Ms. York, thank goodness you're here. Please come in. Mr. Theodore needs you tonight. No one else will do."

Madeline's face twisted with jealousy and rage.

"Why does Isabella get to go in? Theo got seriously hurt saving her! She's a jinx! How can you let her anywhere near him?"

I froze for a second.

Theodore saved me? Again? What is she talking about?

Inside the room was chaos.

I saw Theodore lying on the bed. He was shirtless, his face flushed a deep red, and his short hair was soaked through. His fingers curled tightly against the sheets as waves of pain and desire rippled through him, and the thick white bandages wrapped around his back were already seeping through with fresh blood.

Oliver Lloyd, the doctor beside him, was shouting in panic. "Sir, you can't hold out like this! Please just find a woman to help you! The bandages I just changed are already soaked. How much more blood can you lose before it's too late?

"And it's the full moon. Your wolf blood is in overdrive, and your blood isn't clotting properly. Even the strongest medication isn't helping. If we don't find a way to calm your body down, you'll bleed out before the night is over! Where is that girl—the one who can save you?"

The other bodyguards standing by the bed all turned to me at once. They saluted all together, gratitude in every move they made.

"Dr. Lloyd, she's here."

At those words, the man on the bed, who had been writhing in pain like he was burning in hell, suddenly opened his eyes.

His dark red eyes were intimidating, cold yet dazzling. He restrained the fierce desire surging within him, but his gaze landed on me unexpectedly, surprise and irritation flashing across his face.

"Who brought her here? Get her out!"

Liam stepped forward and lowered his head. "It's me, sir. If Ms. York can help ease your pain tonight, I'll accept whatever punishment comes my way. You got hurt saving her, not once, but twice, and never sought any recognition for it. You may not care, but we truly feel wronged for you."

I couldn't help but glance at the man sprawled on the bed, radiating an overwhelming presence. Although Nathan and I were childhood friends, I usually avoided Theodore like the plague.

Soon, Andrew and Eleanor came to my house to formally propose.Theodore and I set our wedding date for early summer. On the day we were scheduled to take our wedding photos, Madeline reached out to me. She asked to meet for coffee. She looked worn out. "Nathan and I broke up."I shrugged. "You never really liked him anyway."Then, she came clean with me. "I'm sorry. Initially, I went after Nathan because of you. I like Theodore. I noticed how he always drives to school, quietly watches you, but never interferes in your life. "I was insanely jealous. I've known him since we were kids, and I thought he was cold to every girl. Why were you the exception? I couldn't accept it, so I tried to steal the guy you liked. But instead, I only pushed you closer to Theodore. Talk about backfiring."The funniest part is, I even agreed to date Nathan. I thought that if I couldn't marry Theodore, at least I'd become his sister-in-law. That way, I could see him every day."But on several full-m

"So that's it. When something comes too easily and slips away without warning, that's when it hurts the most."Nathan opened his arms, wanting to hold me.In the past, I would have gone straight into them without a second thought. But now, I stepped back, and it hurt him to see.He wasn't willing to let it go and tried to hold me anyway. His voice cracked just slightly, like he was on the verge of tears."How did I let you slip away? I've stared at my phone endlessly these past two months. I don't want to admit it, but I miss you. I want you to cling to me like before, to show me silly pictures of wildflowers on the road, just because you thought of me. But no matter how long I waited, not a single message came."I hated the way he only knew how to love once it was too late.Gripping the glass in my hand, I threw the water straight at his face."Are you sober now?" I snapped.Nathan caught my wrist."Bella, just look at me for a second, will you? You can't tell me all those y

Nathan shouldn't have called me a lovesick puppy at his beck and call.I said, "And another thing. I did it of my own free will. No one forced me. Last night was all me. Since you like the school's most popular girl, go ahead and chase whoever you want. But whether you actually get her is another story."From what I hear, Madeline seems to have a thing for your brother. Last night she was crying, begging to help him. Honestly, no matter how effortless she tries to seem, she's not any more refined than I am."Nathan staggered back a few steps, and I sneered."Don't believe me? The hospital corridor has cameras. Check for yourself."But Nathan wasn't concerned about that. "Y-you came to see me last night, didn't you? D-did you hear everything?"I wiped away my stubborn tears. "Yes, I heard it all. So that's how cheap I look in your eyes. Nathan, I won't humiliate myself like that again. I won't fawn over you anymore. Happy now?"I pushed him aside and walked straight to Theodore

I shook my head, keeping my tone cool. "Not for you."Nathan gave me a slow once-over, his eyes lighting up with surprise."Don't even try to deny it. A woman only dresses up for the man she wants to impress. If you didn't do it for me, then who was it for?"He leaned back, putting on a dramatic look of relief. "Where'd you disappear to last night, anyway? Lucky you didn't show up, or I would've been done for."I brushed past him and ignored his confident grin, then walked straight up to Theodore.I asked a little playfully, "Do I look good?"Theodore was lying on the bed, his gaze locked on me the moment I stepped in. "Beautiful. A pearl necklace would make your skin glow even more."He called Liam over. "Go get the pearl necklace in the second drawer of my desk.""The one you won for a fortune at last year's auction? You bought it for Mr. Nathan to give to Ms. York for her birthday, but it never got sent."Theodore frowned. "You talk too much."Liam chuckled and quickly tur

"Theo, don't ruin the mood right now," I teased.I grabbed my phone, rejected the call, and tossed it aside. Then I wrapped my arms around Theodore's neck, leaning in to tempt him."Theo, don't hold back. I'll go along with anything you want tonight."His breath hitched like he'd been set on fire. His voice was low, trembling with need. "Bella, don't tease me like this."His lips moved down to my collarbone, his breathing growing ragged.I blinked up at him. "You don't like it?""I do. It's just... too unreal. And I know deep down that you're only trying to repay a debt, but desires like mine are never satisfied. I want more than that."There was a lonely weight in his voice I couldn't ignore.I didn't know how to respond, so I asked quietly, "Theo, why did you sacrifice half your life to save me five years ago? Nathan is my childhood friend, and even he couldn't do that. Why did you? Why put yourself in this kind of danger, to the point that when the full moon rises, you go ma

  • Alpha King of My Heart   Chapter 5

Theodore's voice dropped heavy, sharp with warning. "You better not regret this later."Nathan froze for a moment, then laughed. "Regret? No way. If she'd just stop clinging to me, I'd wake up smiling even from nightmares. But you'd better stop thinking about Bella, Theo. I can forget her, but she can't. She only has room in her heart for me, no one else. I think she's planning to cling to me forever."Oh, are you really going to play the domineering future Alpha King and force Bella into submission? Come on, forced love like that means nothing. Even if you conquer her body, you'll never win her heart. Why bother?"I was irritated by Nathan's unfounded confidence. Also, I was afraid Theodore might hesitate and push me away again. In a rush, I wrapped both arms around Theodore's neck and nibbled lightly on his ear.Already caught in a whirlpool of desire, how could he possibly resist such a provocation? He cut Nathan off coldly. "I wouldn't be so certain of that."Nathan stayed
