Chapter 74: Survival

REINA

The night was tough. Having nowhere to go and knowing nobody, I didn't know what to do. I stood at a wooden fence, staring over into the yard. The house looked old, and as if nobody lived there. I wondered if anyone actually lived there too.

I stared so hard that I didn't even know when someone approached me until they touched me. Then I jumped, letting out a little squeal.

"How may I help you?" It was an elderly man, and his voice was kind and warm.

I stared quietly, observing his features and stance to know if he posed any danger. Soon, I reminded myself that he was human, and humans couldn't overpower a werewolf. I slowly let my guard down.

"Sir, I'm stranded. I need a place to sleep tonight," I answered softly. "I don't mind paying. I'm new in town."

He looked me up and down. "Did you escape from home?"

"Yes," I nodded. "They treated me so badly, I had to leave."
