Chapter 3

Author: Aurora
After packing my belongings, I took one last stroll through Red Stone pack.

The streets buzzed with excitement over the Alpha's upcoming mating ceremony. The entire pack was immersed in a festive celebration. I walked aimlessly like an outsider, until I unconsciously found myself at the central square.

My steps stopped abruptly.

Before my eyes, the center of the square bloomed with massive spreads of fiery red petals. Under the carefully arranged string lights, they blazed magnificently in the night like burning flames, so brilliant they hurt to look at.

Cosmos flowers.

The exact vision I had described to him countless times - my dream of what our bonding ceremony should look like.

My chest felt like it had been struck by a sledgehammer. Dull pain instantly swept through my entire body. I could barely stay standing.

In this barren, desolate land of Red Stone pack, keeping even an ordinary flower alive was nearly impossible, let alone these delicate cosmos that required careful nurturing and specific soil conditions. It had once been my impossible dream.

"Aria, don't worry," Damon's voice from memory echoed with the passion and determination unique to youth, as if sounding right in my ear.

"No matter what it costs, I'll make it happen! I'll make sure the entire Red Stone pack sees our ceremony covered in the most vibrant cosmos flowers! My love for you will be like them - eternal, never extinguished!"

He had actually done it. Just not for me.

I shook my head, cutting off the memories, and looked up to see Damon and Serena walking in this direction.

"Isn't it beautiful?"

I trembled, my eyes rimming red.

"Beautiful." Serena immediately clutched Damon's hand like a cheerful little bird, practically melting against his side.

Her face showed undisguised triumph and happiness. "Damon! It's absolutely gorgeous! I never imagined you would really... go to such lengths for me! This must have been so difficult, right?"

She gazed up at him adoringly, completely satisfied, as if she were the most beloved princess in the world.

This should have been my flower sea. This should have been the promise fulfilled for me.

If what he said was true - that the bonding was just to break the curse, an unavoidable "responsibility" and "sacrifice" - then what did this expensive, lovingly crafted cosmos garden represent? These meticulously planned ceremony details? These romantic gestures that went far beyond mere "life-saving" into pure courtship?

Damon approached with a deeply furrowed brow, his voice urgent with worry.

"Aria, it really is you."

"It's so late. Why are you out here alone? You didn't even bring a Gamma guard. What if you encountered danger?"

Seeing his anxious expression, my eyes held no warmth whatsoever.

"Alpha, how I am seems to have nothing to do with you."

"You're about to become mates with my sister. Isn't it inappropriate for you to still show such concern for me?"

Damon's face went rigid.

He looked at me with darkened eyes, seemingly wounded by my words.

Serena intimately linked her arm through his, hiding smugness in her eyes as she laughed sweetly.

"Sister, Damon and I are about to hold our mating ceremony and become true mates. He loves me so much, and love extends to caring about those connected to me. Isn't his concern for you only natural?"

"Don't you think these cosmos flowers are beautiful? I remember you love them too. Damon spent a fortune having them air-shipped from Asia specifically for our mating ceremony. What do you think?"

My expression remained flat as I smiled lightly.

"Beautiful."

"The Alpha put a lot of thought into this for you."

Damon looked down with shifty eyes, perhaps remembering I had lost my memory, then raised his head to look at me.

"This is all what I should do. If you like them too, I'll have someone send you some."

I looked at him calmly.

"No need. There's no relationship between us. What would it mean for you to send me flowers? If other wolves found out, they'd say inappropriate things."

In the night, Damon's face went paper-white. He stared at me blankly, unable to utter another word.

I turned around.

"I won't disturb you two any longer. I'm leaving."

Before I finished speaking, a violent explosion suddenly thundered through the square.

That day, Damon was sent back under heavy guard. Kane directly used his connections to have him locked in the Alpha Council's highest-security prison."He won't see daylight for decades," Kane had said, his voice cold as winter steel. "The Alpha Council doesn't take kindly to rogue Alphas who abuse forbidden magic."Without his Alpha status, he was nothing now. Just another fallen leader who had lost everything through his own actions.I watched the transport vehicle disappear into the distance, feeling nothing but relief."Good riddance," I murmured.Kane's hand found mine, squeezing gently. "You'll never have to see him again."When night fell, Kane lit up fireworks for me. The sky exploded in brilliant cascades of gold and silver, each burst more spectacular than the last.He stood beside me on the balcony of our chambers, pulling me close by the waist, speaking softly."Aria, I've waited too long for this moment."His voice was filled with wonder, as if he couldn't quite believe th

The coldness in my voice made him freeze.Damon's eyes turned red, his face growing pale inch by inch."Aria, I know I did wrong, but I just wanted to save Serena's life.""From beginning to end, I only loved you. I never thought about separating from you."I smiled, the curve of my lips utterly contemptuous."Why do you keep using that excuse to feel at peace with yourself?""The memory potion didn't make me forget everything instantly. During those seven days, I saw everything - how good you were to Serena, how you deceived me for her sake."My voice grew harder with each word."If you were only trying to save her, why were there feelings of love you couldn't hide in your eyes? Why did you do for her the things you promised were only for me? I don't need your hypocritical love anymore.""Aria, please—""So I don't want it anymore, Damon. Whether I remember or not, I'll never want you again."Damon's eyes filled with unwillingness and despair. His whole body trembled, his voice nearly

That was a blessing from the Moon Goddess, only obtainable by the most powerful warriors. The moonlight gem pulsed with ethereal light in my palm, its surface smooth and warm despite the cool evening air.Seeing the blood stains on the gem that wouldn't wipe away, I realized what brutal battles he must have endured to finally obtain it.My fingers trembled as I traced the dark stains. Each mark told a story of violence, of Kane fighting for his life just to bring me this gift.My eyes immediately welled up. "Kane, you're hurt."The gem was beautiful, but the price he'd paid for it made my heart ache."How badly are you injured? Show me."Kane panicked and knelt beside me, his hands fluttering around me as if he didn't know where to touch."Aria, don't worry about me.""I'm fine. I'm a powerful Alpha with terrifyingly strong bloodlines. These small injuries heal with rest."But I could see the carefully hidden pain in his eyes, the way he favored his left side. When he'd knelt down, I'd

I stared at Kane, my mind flooding with questions that I couldn't quite voice. There was something about his presence that felt both foreign and strangely comforting.Kane was also looking at me. His features were clear and bright, his phoenix eyes holding laughter as he quietly watched me. The silence stretched between us, but it wasn't uncomfortable.Once the convoy started moving again, I finally found the courage to speak."Did you... know me before?"The question hung in the air like a delicate thread.Kane froze for a moment, his eyes curving as they filled with rippling light. A soft smile played at the corners of his mouth."Yes. Don't you have any impression of me?"His question left me unsure how to respond. I searched my blank memories, trying to find any trace of his face, his voice, anything that might spark recognition. But there was nothing.Kane seemed to sense my struggle and was straightforward."I met you many years ago."He leaned back slightly, his gaze becoming di

Without another glance at her tear-stained face, he left, wanting to intercept me before I departed. At that moment, he only hated himself for being so hasty, for not listening more carefully when he got the potion. Every second that passed felt like another nail in his coffin.Meanwhile, I sat in the car heading to the airport, watching the scenery outside the window. The landscape rolled by in a blur of green and brown, unfamiliar yet somehow comforting.Besides the driver, there was an Omega from Dark Moon pack in the car. She was young, probably in her early twenties, with kind eyes and a gentle demeanor. She kept offering me various pastries I'd never tried before, each one more delicate and beautifully crafted than the last.I smiled slightly, touched by her thoughtfulness."You really are taking excellent care of me.""But if I keep eating, I'm afraid I won't fit into my Luna gown before we even reach your pack."The Omega held the pastries with an envious expression, her eyes s

Damon's face went deathly pale for a moment, the color draining from his features like water from a broken dam. His hands began to tremble as he stammered:"How could that be? Didn't she refuse initially? Why did the Alpha Council arrange for her to go there again!"His voice cracked on the last word, desperation seeping through every syllable."I don't believe it. I need to ask her myself!"But just as he stepped forward, his legs unsteady beneath him, Harper burst through the ceremonial hall doors. Her face was flushed with anger, her beta wolf instincts on high alert.Harper came from a prominent beta family in Red Stone pack with high status, so she dared to directly block Damon's path. She planted herself firmly in front of him, her eyes blazing with fury."Don't you understand yet?" Harper's voice was sharp as a blade. "Aria has completely lost faith in you!"She took a step closer, her finger pointed accusingly at his chest."And there's no antidote to the memory potion. Why els
