Omega - Chapter - 5

Flora–POV

I couldn't sleep all night because I was watching over Ivan. I stepped out of his room while he was still asleep. When I exited, I met Robina's worried gaze. Before entering the house, she had to go through a security check.

"Let me make you some coffee. You look like you could use one," Robina offered. She walked to the kitchen to prepare the coffee. I sat down, finding it unusual to relax on a luxurious couch. I was more accustomed to sitting on the floor, especially when a high-ranking wolf took the sofa. My thoughts drifted to Ivan. What had he seen? He wasn't ready to talk about it. Ryker had come in earlier to check on Ivan, but seeing him asleep, he left to pack matters. Ryker seemed concerned.

"Flora, here's your coffee and breakfast," Robina handed it to me. I sipped the coffee, noting its premium quality, far better than what I was used to. I began eating the breakfast.

"On my way here, I heard Alpha Ryker found the attacker's body near our pack's territory," Robina said. I felt a lump in my throat.

"Did Ryker kill the attacker?" I inquired.

"No. Before Ryker could catch him, someone else shot the attacker," Robina replied.

"How did you come by this information?" I questioned.

"I overheard Beta Nathan talking with Omega Alexia," she answered. She hesitated, then added, "Can I give you some advice? Please keep it to yourself." I gripped my mug tighter. "Promise me."

"I promise I won't tell anyone," I assured her.

"Omega Alexia and Alpha Ryker were in a relationship. They broke up recently. I don't know why. But everyone in the pack loved them together," Robina whispered. Before I could ask further, a stunning woman entered the room.

"You must be Flora Evers," she greeted. I nodded.

"I'm the Omega of the pack. My name is Alexia." She extended her hand gracefully. I couldn't help but wonder why Ryker ended things with someone so captivating. I reached out and shook her hand.

"Where's Ivan? I came to take him to my place," she said calmly.

"He's asleep in the guest room," I replied, feeling intimidated by her. Even though I'm from an Omega bloodline, she has the aura of a Gamma or a Beta.

Alexia suggested, her face unreadable." Once Ivan wakes up, we ask him where he wants to stay."

"Did Alpha Ryker permit you to take Ivan? He asked me to watch over him until he comes back," I responded.

"No, Ryker didn't tell me to take Ivan. But I don't trust you with him. You're still a stranger to us," she said bluntly. Her point was valid, but her tone was sharp.

"I understand your concerns, but Ryker instructed me to look after Ivan," I defended.

"Ryker is foolish to trust a young girl with such a task," Alexia murmured. "Can you even shift to protect Ivan if something happens, like last night?" Her words hurt, but she had a point.

"I can't shift, but I know how to care for kids, especially those traumatized by events like last night," I retorted. My assertiveness surprised me. I usually kept quiet and bore insults. Maybe my emotions came from lack of sleep. Alexia looked equally surprised, raising an eyebrow.

"Aunty Alexia," Ivan called out. Before Alexia could respond, Ivan ran towards her. She lifted him upanding , her face breaking into a warm smile, contrasting her stern expression when talking to me.

"How are you, Ivan?" Alexia inquired gently.

"I'm good, thanks to Flora," he replied. Alexia's gaze shifted to me, but she continued smiling for Ivan's sake.

"Want to come stay with me? I'll make you blueberry pancakes," she offered.

"I'd love to, Aunty Alexia. It's been a while since I had those delicious pancakes," Ivan said cheerfully. I watched as Alexia's smile took on a triumphant edge. I didn't react; after all, Ivan felt more at ease with Alexia than with me, a stranger he met just the night before.

"Let's go then. It would be best if you were hungry," Alexia said. Ivan nodded and waved goodbye to me as she led him away.

"She's intimidating, isn't she?" Robina remarked, hearing me sigh.

"Absolutely. I wonder why Alpha Ryker let go of a woman who cares so deeply for his son," I mused.

"I don't know," Robina replied, heading to the kitchen. Alpha Ryker had instructed her to ensure I had nutritious meals since I was underweight. I ate half of what she served; It accustomed me to eating small portions from my time at the Whitewood pack.

"Please eat a bit more, Flora," Robina urged.

"I can't. I'm used to these portions," I said.

"I'll make smaller portions more frequently to increase your appetite gradually," Robina decided. She took charge of cleaning and asked me not to do housework. Whenever I attempted to assist her or any maids, they told me to rest.

Later, I got dressed and left the bungalow. Two bodyguards followed at a distance, probably on Ryker's orders. I wandered towards the busier part of the pack and spotted Alexia Ivan and  Ryker standing at the Alexia door smiling. They looked like a picture-perfect family, with Alexia smiling back. Ryker had plenty of people to care for him and his son, Ivan. From Alexia's expressions, it seemed she still had feelings for Ryker. I resolved to decline Ryker as my mate and move on rather than live off the generosity of Ryker.
