Chapter 23

SHANE

With a final wave to the man, I turned and headed down the street.

I knew I had to get away from the city, to find a place where I could be alone.

As I moved, I felt a rush of energy building inside me. I jumped, propelling myself up to the roof of the nearest building.

I landed with a thud, the impact barely registering. Then I took off running, faster and faster, until I was nothing more than a blur.

I ran and jumped, leaping from building to building, until I finally reached a secluded rooftop, far from the city center.

As I approached the front of the Brothers of the West building, I was struck by its grandeur.

The building was tall and imposing, its facade made of gleaming white marble.

A set of wide steps led up to a massive set of double doors, flanked by columns and carved with intricate designs.

A feeling of awe and wonder washed over me as I approached the building, and I felt compelled to enter.

I jumped, propelling myself up to the third floor, where I landed
