YELENA

The papers in my hand felt heavier than bricks. My fingers shook as I stepped out of the courthouse where they issued the divorce documents. I should feel relief, right? That I finally did it. That I finally signed up to let my heart breathe a little. But all I felt was heat burning under my skin. My chest is tight. My legs were numb.

Almost three years of marriage. Three long, dragging, breath-stealing years. And it felt like ten.

I begged my parents to talk to him more times than I could count. They did. They returned with small smiles and watered hopes, saying he promised to change. But all were fake promises. Just the same way he gave me with a calm voice, and an empty tone. And from the look of things, I guessed his heart fully belonged to Livia now.

I tried to search my mind for the last time I saw Tristan. It took me a second to remember.

Three months.

Three good months since I laid eyes on my husband.

Three months since he walked through our door.

I went to his company

YELENA“Can you imagine? How can he even say that to you?” Nyra groaned, throwing her arms in the air. “Was he that heartless that he thinks someone can wake up and just ruin a whole man’s life?”I exhaled, staring at the ceiling like it had answers. I had just finished telling her everything from how Tristan appeared, to every crazy word that came out of his mouth. She was pacing like a wolf trapped inside a cage.I finally sat up and hugged her. “I’m sorry,” I said softly. “I should've told you about our first encounter. I should’ve told you before I agreed not to purchase that building.”She stiffened a little then hugged me tighter. “No. Lena. You should’ve told me right, but even if you had, I would still not buy that place. We can always buy another building somewhere. It's not a big deal.”I smiled lazily. “It’s a huge deal.”She pulled back and narrowed her eyes like she was studying me closely. “If that man thinks he can just step back into your life and dominate it again, th

YELENA“Stay away from me!” I yelled this time, louder, firmer like maybe volume would make him listen. It didn’t.Tristan moved faster than I expected and slammed me gently but firmly against the cold tiled wall. His hand caged the side of my head while his other arm blocked my escape.“Why should I, huh?” he growled softly, his eyes boring into mine. “Why should I stay away after looking for you for years?”My eyes widened. I blinked twice. Did I hear him clearly? Or did he hit his head on something on the way here?Looking for me?I let out a bitter laugh. “Stop talking nonsense. You and I both know you’d never...”“Because you ruined my life!” he snapped, cutting me off. That shut me up.“What?” The word slipped out before I could catch it.His chest rose and fell as if he’d been carrying those words for too long. “When you left, you took everything with you,” he said, his voice breaking with frustration. “You took my success. My happiness. My wolf.”My stomach dropped. What the a

YELENA“Welcome, Alpha Tristan,” the director said quickly, his voice was a little too rushed. It was obvious he just wanted to cut the tension that had suddenly gripped the room like an iron fist.Tristan gave a curt nod and walked over to the chair that had been set aside for him. He didn’t even glance at us as he sat; his posture was straight, and his aura was cold enough to drop the temperature.Daniel followed and sat beside him, but unlike Tristan, he couldn’t stop staring at me. His brows pinched together like he was trying to remember a face he’d seen in a dream. A very unfortunate dream.Yep. That’s me. Your nightmare.I tore my gaze away before either one of them could catch it and ended up locking eyes with Jackson. His dark eyes gave me that look... half worry, half silent question. He felt the tension. Probably could smell it too. Especially because Tristan wasn’t just any Alpha. Jackson knew him. And he knew the reason why I pushed him away when we first met. Tristan was

YELENAIt had been a whole week and I still couldn't get him out of my head. His voice wouldn’t stop replaying in my mind.“You're Yelena to me.”What the hell did that even mean? And what was he trying to say about my scent? What did it do to him exactly? He never finished. He just looked at me like he wanted to drag the words out of himself before I stopped him. Rubbish. After all these years, he'd better not stand in front of me again. The past should stay buried. Dead. He wasn't allowed to resurrect it.A sharp hiss escaped me without knowing.“What’s wrong, Lena? Why did you hiss like that?” Nyra looked at me with raised brows.I blinked, forcing a smile that clearly wasn’t ready to show up today. “It’s nothing.”She didn’t buy it. Of course, she wouldn’t.“You’ve been off this week,” she pressed, quiet but firm. “What’s wrong? Something on your mind?”I shook my head again, wishing I could just calm the hell down. But my mind was restless, my wolf pacing inside me like she wante

YELENANyra left early for work, half-asleep and still ranting about me not carrying her upstairs last night. I didn’t bother replying. If I started, we’d argue over who was more tired and probably shift at each other in the process. I just let her slam the door dramatically like she was leaving for war.Clara had already sent me the exact address on Moonlight Road. The moment I stepped outside, the morning breeze brushed through the trees, and faint howls echoed far off, wolves were finishing their night patrols before dawn fully claimed the sky. The grass still smelled wet, the kind of morning quiet that pretends peace even though the city was never peaceful. Not for us. Never for wolves.“Good morning, Doctor,” Joe, our security man, greeted, nodding with that respectful way humans did around us. They didn’t know why, but their bodies always recognized the power beneath our skin.“Good morning, Joe,” I smiled slightly and headed to my car.I drove out, the road ahead was calm but

YELENA“You were saying something about the location… have you seen a place?” Nyra asked, lifting her cold coffee to her lips as we walked out of the hospital. Evening had crept in quietly, the sky turning a warm shade of orange, the air sharper with the night scent of the city wolves shifting through the streets. Her shift had ended before mine, so we were both heading home together. Lucky her.“That’s what Clara said. She emailed me earlier but didn’t give the details. I’ve replied to her. Once she sends the location, if we like it, we go for it.” I said, tugging my lab coat tighter around me.Nyra nodded and headed to the other side of my car. She opened the door, threw herself into the seat like she had no bones.“Thank Moon I didn’t drive my car today. If I did, I’d probably be sleeping in the parking lot right now. I’m dead tired,” she groaned, resting her head on the seat before fixing her belt.I smiled faintly. “Sorry. You’ll rest once we get home.”As soon as I started the
