Chapter 173

Kane's POV

Stealing myself, I push open the door to my apartment. The smell of incense and candle wax hits me square between the eyes. Our mothers had drawn their magical runes on the hardwood and set up candles in a circle around it. Usually, something like this would anger me, but now isn’t the time to get pissy about a ruined floor. “Anything?” I ask.

“No. They’re using a powerful cloaking spell,” Narcissa answers.

“What about Adare? Maybe they didn’t think to cloak him as--”

“They did,” my mother interrupts, holding up my son’s blanket. “There’s nothing. I’m sorry, we can’t find them.”

I should have expected it. The Templars are thorough. “It doesn’t matter. I’ll find her my way.”

“And what way is that?” Narcissa asks.

“The violent way. Make sure to blow out the candles before you leave.” I walk past them to the bedroom, purposefully avoiding the cot and our cold, empty bed.
