Chapter 294

Kane's POV

The humans gathered at the main gates, and by the time we get there it’s absolute pandemonium. Mothers screaming, fathers trying to run after the vampires to get to their children. “This isn’t right,” Willow says. “Something’s wrong.”

“Well, we are taking their children.”

“Yes, but why aren’t they fighting back?”

I look out over the long queue of petrified humans, following them with my eyes as they try to climb over each other and the castle walls - not to attack us, but to get away from us. “Yeah,” I agree. “This is all wrong. Hold your fire,” I order my wolves who are getting ready to bomb the humans, and run down the embankment in the humans' direction. “Zael?”

The vampire lands next to me, looking completely unfazed. “What?”

“Do they look like soldiers to you?”

He looks around the wailing group of humans who came here on foot. They are running and screaming, trampling each other into the dust in their attempts to get away. The vampire just shrugs. “The problem is

I am glad Kane finally realized not all humans are terrible. I think this will be a turning point for him in the war.
