ELISSE

I sneered at him, letting the heat in my words match the fire in my eyes. “You say you don’t need a mate … so why does your gaze burn with desire whenever it lands on me?”

He leaned closer, that arrogant smirk curling perfectly on his lips. “I said I don’t really need one, not that I don’t need one at all, Pupcake ... and judging by your stare, neither do you.”

A thin, irritated smile curved my lips.

Even though I was furious at what he’d done, and at his refusal to explain himself, I couldn’t control the aching urge to claim him. My wolf, Sera, was howling inside me, desperate to make him mine.

"What’s wrong? Go on, reject me as your mate, I dare you.”

It was a challenge I wanted so badly to accept, but I couldn’t. “I hate this.”

With a sudden shove, I pushed him backward onto the bed. Climbing over him, I straddled his chest, looking down at him like prey that I refused to let escape.

I whispered, “I hate you, but I can’t lose you even if I want to. You’re mine. I, Elisse La Rovan, am the mate of you, Alpha Dario Dravenhall."

His hands gripped my hips instantly. His voice was a low, dangerous warning. “Elisse …”

“What?”

“Don’t play with me,” he snarled, his fingers sliding to my waist. “You can’t push me away and then crawl on top of me like this.”

“You played me first, Alpha. Taste your own poison.”

His hips shifted beneath me, pressing deliberately. “Then, be quick, reject me … or claim me.”

I answered by crushing my lips to his.

My control snapped. His hands moved from my waist to my hair, holding me in place as he kissed me back with wild hunger. In one swift motion, he flipped us over so he was on top, without breaking the kiss.

My wolf surged forward, matching his ferocity, returning each kiss with untamed hunger.

He growled deep in his chest, his lips trailing down my neck, leaving bites and searing kisses.

“Mine,” he muttered against my skin before claiming my mouth again.

“Mine too … but I’m still angry to you,” I breathed, my voice breaking into a soft moan.

That sound seemed to drive him insane. He framed my face in his hands, kissing me hard, then pulling back just enough to meet my eyes. “Then punish me, be angry."

“I’m very aggressive. You sure?”

His lips curved in a smirk. His hands slid down, gripping my thighs, hooking them around his waist. “I can already guess how aggressive you are."

"Oh really?"

"Go on. Show me, but remember … I can be aggressive too.”

I rolled his body so that I was back on top of his chest. Then, I sank my teeth on his neck.

“Fuck!” he hissed, his fingers tangling in my hair. Instead of pulling away, he tilted his head, giving me more. His body pressed hard against mine, unyielding. “Is that how you claim your mate?”

“I told you I’m aggressive.”

“Yes, you did … and I’m foolish enough to crave it.” His lips crashed against mine again, teeth grazing my bottom lip, sending a jolt straight to my core. “Bite me again, little beast, make me yours.”

I trailed my tongue slowly along the curve of his jaw, teasing the sensitive skin beneath his ear, savoring the shiver that rippled through him.

“You’re such a fucking tease,” he growled, pressing harder into me, heat and desire radiating from every inch of his body. His breath was hot against my neck, intoxicating and sharp, making my pulse race. “Does this mean you’re not so angry anymore?”

“I’m still angry."

“Bring it on,” he challenged, voice low and edged with heat. He spread his arms wide like he was offering himself up. “Show me how angry you can be.”

I unbuttoned his shirt one by one, my hands trembling with an uncontrollable desire. After two long years of waiting, I had finally found my mate.

He groaned, fists clenching at his sides to stop himself from taking control. “More …” he ground out through gritted teeth.

And, I had no intention of stopping.

ELISSEI slipped into the main room, the journal still pressed tight against me. My fingers itched to open it, to finally see what secrets Dario’s grandfather had left behind. The leather creaked when I lifted the cover'Stop.'Sera’s voice snapped sharp inside me, restless. My chest tightened as her unease bled into me. My gaze was dragged, almost unwillingly, to the side window.'We’re being watched again.'I stared through the glass into the trees swaying in the pale daylight. The world outside seemed too still, shadows bending where they shouldn’t.I shoved the window open and vaulted through. My feet struck the grass with a muted thud, and I broke into a run toward the side forest."Luna!"The shout cracked behind me. Gerrard. The warrior stationed out front. He’d seen me."Luna—wait!" His voice thundered as heavy steps gave chase. "Luna!"Guilt tangled in my chest. What was I even doing? Running like prey in broad daylight?I had no time to speak to Gerrard, no time to explain.

ELISSEJohnny arrived with another man he introduced as Gerrard, one of the pack warriors. Instead of keeping watch inside the house, they stayed stationed at the front door. That was when it hit me. I wasn’t being protected. I was being guarded like a prisoner in my own home. But, it didn’t matter. I belonged to their Alpha, and their Alpha was mine.I turned to head upstairs, but at the end of the hall I caught sight of Johnny. He was walking away, not even pretending to care that I was watching.'Follow him, Elisse. He’s hiding something.' Sera’s voice whispered sharp inside my chest, and I agreed. Dario wasn’t here. Who knew Johnny was taking advantage of that?I moved quietly, keeping my distance, careful not to let the floor betray me.At the end of the long corridor stood an old door, heavy wood carved with strange patterns on either side. This house was centuries old, and here, it showed.Johnny slipped inside.I hesitated only a moment before pushing the door open. The stair

ELISSEOnce again, I woke to an empty bed.Dario was gone.I slipped out of the sheets and padded barefoot through the silent house until I found him in the kitchen, of all places. And, he was… frying eggs?Strange. The house was usually alive with servants, yet I felt no one’s presence here but his.I brushed off the strange silence in the house and crept up behind him. With a quick jump, I clung to his back, arms looped around his neck like a mischievous little lizard. “Good Moooorrniiingggg~”He didn’t even flinch, still focused on the eggs sizzling in the pan. I could feel it, the restless beat of his heart.I leaned in and bit his neck, just enough to make him turn his head with a sigh.“Easy, little beast. I’m making you breakfast," he said.“I didn’t know you could fry eggs.”“I can also grill meat for us. I’m starving... starving enough I could eat you, too.”I tightened my hold on him, biting into his neck again. My tongue tracing the tense muscles beneath his skin. I let ou

ELISSEI woke from a heavy sleep to a sound I couldn’t place. The room was dark, but moonlight slipped through the white curtains, painting everything in silver. My body ached, every muscle sore, every joint stiff. What happened hours ago had been wild. Too wild.I turned my head, and there he was, the man who left me trembling, now sleeping peacefully. His bare chest lay exposed above the blanket, and heat rushed through me again. Desire.Out of nowhere, a strange whisper brushed against my ear:'You belong to me. How dare you share yourself with a false mate?'I froze. My heart lurched. That voice— male, unfamiliar, but deep enough to crawl into my bones. I bolted upright, scanning the room. Nothing.Who?Was I imagining things? No. I had heard it. Clear. Lurid. Possessive. There was no strange scent in the air, no trace of another wolf. If there had been, Dario would have already woken, ready to kill. He was still fast asleep beside me.I pressed a trembling hand to my chest. “Wh

ELISSE I shoved Dario down onto the bed, a growl curling in my throat as instinct burned hot beneath my skin. Before he could recover, I straddled his hips, my nails dragging down his chest through his shirt. The look in his eyes—half fury, half hunger—only fueled the fire raging in my veins. I could hear Sera growing restless in my head, aroused by the sight of our mate. “Careful, Pupcake …” His voice rumbled low, dangerous, vibrating straight through my bones. “You bare your teeth at me, you’d better be ready for the bite back.” Instead of retreating, I leaned down and crushed my lips to his, hard and bruising. My tongue demanded entry, desperate, and he groaned into me, the sound raw and guttural. I smirked against him, biting down on the side of his neck, tasting the salt of his skin. “Fuck…” he hissed. His eyes flared gold, his wolf straining against control. “Stop biting unless you want my teeth buried in your throat too.” I rocked my hips harder against him,

DARIO'He is dangerous, Dario.'My wolf had kept whispering inside my head, as though it was ready to tear apart the rogue tied before me.Johnny and the others had managed to capture one of the rogues roaming within our territory.Ever since the Moonlight Ball, this uneasy feeling hadn’t left me. Why did it feel like there were more and more of them every day?I stared at the man—the rogue—bloodied and restrained against a tree. He glared back at me with the wild, bloodthirsty look of a starving beast.“Alpha, these past few days the number of rogues at our borders has been increasing,” Johnny reported, standing at my side.I scanned the forest around us. Silence spread between the trees, but my instincts screamed that danger lingered close.“I knew it,” I muttered. “It must have been connected to what happened at the Moonlight Ball.”“They looked like they were gathering, united for something."“I knew. I could feel it too.”“This was strange. Before this, they had never dared to ap
