CHAPTER 29

Carmilla

I knew there was everything wrong with this trip. I felt the world juggle me like a ball.

Evans looked equally frustrated. Same with Brenda. She looked like she had been slapped in her face. Yes, it was awkward, but I liked the look she gave. She looked defeated.

Evans gave me a questioning look as if asking if I had any way out of the mess his father had put us.

We obviously had no choice. He distributed the keys amongst us. Every other person had a room to himself, except Evans and me.

Evans unlocked the door and moved his things in, while I grudgingly followed behind with mine. As expected, there was only one bed in the room. There was also no couch which one of us could lay on.

I nearly ran wild at the thought of having my bath, while he sits in the bedroom waiting for me to come out with the towel hugging my wet skin. I shook the thought off my head.

It was already night fall, and of course, I needed to have my bath after the long trip. We h

CHAPTER 63 . . . Carmilla Without waiting for a response from Evans and Brenda, I dashed into the corridor, gripping the railings as I made my way to the room. The door was wide open. The book was gone! Only scattered, tattered sheets remained on the floor. I heard rustling near the closet. My instincts fearlessly pulled me toward it. In a flash of lightning, a full-grown black figure appeared—Jethro in a mask, only his eyes visible, a deep shade of toxic black. For a moment, I lost control. I couldn’t step back or attack, despite all the moves I thought I’d learned. He rushed at me, grabbed my neck, lifting me until my feet dangled, my full weight choking on my thin neck’s strength. “Where’d you keep the damn necklace?” His cigarette-laced breath stole what little air I had left. Then came a much stronger force. It was my Alpha—Evans—yanking Jethro’s hand off my neck. I dropped like a pile of garbage tossed aside. Evans growled loudly at him. “Step aside,” the masked

CHAPTER 62 . . . Carmilla Katrina rushed to the door, urging with her hands that I hurried up, and I did. Then, she twisted the keys and pulled the door open. “Hey.” He waved, walking towards me. He stroked my head with the back of his palm. “Your tea.” He pointed. I suddenly remembered I had been awaken by the smell of warm coffee. “Oh!” I exclaimed, kissing my teeth. “I was uhm…” I ransacked my brain for an excuse which might have almost made no sense. “Bring another.” He nudged at Katrina who immediately exited the room with the cup of wasted coffee. “You seem…” he squinted at me. “Flustered.” He said. I nodded. “Tired. I’m fine.” He exhaled and stood up. I realized he had a small bag with him which he placed before me. “Training pants.” He pointed at the shopping bag. “You would be more efficient in this.” He said. I nodded again, biting at my lower lips anxiously. “Thank you.” He kissed his teeth, as though he suddenly remembered something. “Y

CHAPTER 61 . . . Carmilla ‘It’s all lies! A friend would never raise a weapon against his friend!’ I cried even louder. I felt a new feeling; one of betrayal, anger and vengeance. I pushed him away and moved backwards. “It’s okay. You must have had a bad dream.” He attempted to move close, but I repelled violently. “Have you been pretending to be nice to me all along?” I clearly asked. “No…” he scoffed. “I would never.” “Why was he there?” “Who?” he asked. “Your father?” I shouted, hugging my legs close to my chin. He shrugged. “You could be seeing things. Besides, like I said, they were friends. We both know this.” He replied. I buried my face in my legs and cried aloud. Just when I thought I had found someone to trust, I realized that his father had played an important role in my past. What if he was doing the same? “It’s okay.” He said, stroking my head slowly. “You can trust me.” He said. This time, the thundering progressed even more, accomp

CHAPTER 60 . . . Carmilla I separated our lips, staring into his eyes. “Can we take this slow?” I whispered, unsure of what I wanted. He nodded and went back to resting on his back. “I just find you irresistible.” His voice was in a near whisper. I wanted to ask a list of questions: ‘how am I irresistible?’ ‘Do you just find me attractive, or you love me?’ ‘If you love me, then how do we explain what is going on with Brenda?’ I shoved the thoughts aside and allowed my mind wander elsewhere; nowhere in particular. ******************************************************************************* After a few minutes, we both made our way back to the room and had our dinner in awkward silence, then took turns to have our night bath. I prepared both beds and laid on my bed before Evans was out of the bathroom. The dim light gave me the leverage to steal a peak at him while he carefully slid into his pants without giving me a view of what I was not supposed to get a

CHAPTER 59 . . . Carmilla His expression was a bit more serious than it had appeared to look earlier. His brows furrowed into a unibrow. “Did you doubt it was Jethro all along?” I enquired. “No, no.” he was hesitant, yet reassuring. “Like I said, I shall investigate further.” He said. I gave a nod, and suddenly remembered what we were talking about earlier-the necklace. I raised it over his wide palm which waited below, ready to receive it. As soon as I dropped it into his palm, he threw it hard in reflex action. A sizzling sound was heard, accompanied with a faint smell of burning silver. We both looked at eachother, puzzled. I failed to recall that the necklace was made of silver, and I was resistant to it; just as I was also resistant to the silver dagger with which I was stabbed before the full moon. “Silver!” he muttered. “What would a werewolf have to do with silver?” he asked. I quickly reached for his hand and forced his palm open. It was red with

CHAPTER 58 . . . Evans With my bare chest and black shorts, I went straight to the dining area. “Why?” I glared at him. “Easy…” Cole feigned fear. “It was a harmless request.” He defended. “It’s fine. It belongs to me.” Carmilla interrupted. “I see no reason you should interfere into this.” She looked up at me. Her expression stern, as though she had made a decision to hand it to him. This made me even more furious, but I barely had a choice. I heard Cole kiss his teeth. With a wave of his hand, he hissed. “I was only briefly interested. Do not be bothered, Luna.” He took another bite, while locking eyes with me. A wave of relief flushed through me, like I had held my breath far too long. I sat across Carmilla, digging anxiously into my meal in my very own house. “You know, there’s a lot I’m curious about.” Carmilla said, mouthful, whilst struggling to eat with one hand. “I don’t mind giving it for a research. I just want it returned in perfect condition.”
