Adam

Useless. I don't know what my father was thinking when he agreed to welcome this mutt into our pack. Alyssa is worthless. She's weak. She can barely hold her own against me. She couldn't even protect herself yesterday morning. What kind of weakling could that be?

"Then do what I ask," I growl grabbing her wrist tightly. Her eyes widen with fear.

"Let go," she whispers trying to jerk her hand free from mine.

"If you won't listen to me then maybe you need to hear it through the voice of an Alpha," I snap glaring down at her.

"Stop it, Adam!" Mother shouts from the doorway. "You're hurting the girl."

"She needs to learn respect," I snarl. "And no matter what happens, I will make sure she knows it."

Mother sighs and shakes her head. "Go take a shower so you can look presentable. Then get dressed and meet me downstairs."

I release Alyssa's wrist and turn to leave. I'm going to show my mother exactly what she has brought into our home. We will teach this little bitch a lesson she'll never forget.

"I think you should talk to the Alpha about this girl. She doesn't belong here. She's not one of ours," I tell mom.

"She's a part of the pack now. If you have a problem with it then you deal with it. Now go upstairs and change into some decent clothing."

I glare at her before heading up the stairs. I'm wearing my boxer shorts. What's indecent about that? It's comfortable and easy to move in. As I reach my bedroom door, I open it and step inside. I pull down my boxers and kick them aside before heading for the shower. As I walk toward the bathroom, there's a soft knock on the door.

"Can I come in?" Alyssa asks timidly.

"What do you want? I told you I didn't want you coming in here," I grumble opening the door. Her face turns red when she sees me naked. She turns her head away, her cheeks turning bright pink.

"I'm sorry... I... I thought you were decent." She stammers out.

"What? Haven't you seen a dick before?" I scoff rolling my eyes.

"Alice asked me to bring you some coffee," she says and hands me the mug. She takes off running leaving me standing there dumbfounded.

I place my towel over my shoulder as I sit back on my bed. I take a sip of the steaming coffee before setting it on the desk beside me.

Such a weirdo. Who would ever want to mate with someone like her? I chuckle to myself before placing my feet up on my bed.

I close my eyes letting the warm water flow across my body. The soothing sound of the shower relaxes me allowing my mind to drift. I can't stop thinking how Alyssa's cheeks turned bright red when she saw me naked. My cock starts to swell in response to those thoughts.

"Damn it," I curse under my breath reaching down to adjust my growing erection. I start to massage my length making sure to squeeze every inch of flesh. She may be a mutt but I admit she's hot. [Describe Alyssa]

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Alyssa is her long brown hair. It falls past her shoulders. I've always found women with dark hair more attractive than blondes. They seem more mysterious and exotic. But I suppose that's just my preference.

Alyssa also has beautiful blue-green eyes. When they flash with anger they appear brighter and bigger. She has nice breasts too. Not big or small, just right. My cock twitches as I remember her nipples poking through her shirt last night.

Lastly, I find her ass most appealing. She isn't overly endowed either way but she definitely has curves. Just enough to give her hips and butt definition. BUT she's fucking annoying and a waste of space! I swear if she keeps acting like this, I might actually kill her.

I finish rinsing off and grab a towel to dry my hair. I throw the damp cloth over my shoulder and head towards my room.

* * *

"Alpha," I call my father and knock at his office door. "Can I come in?"

He opens the door and stands aside giving me access. He closes it behind him once I enter.

"What is it, Adam?" he questions sitting down in the chair next to the window overlooking the forest.

"There's something wrong with Alyssa," I say crossing my arms over my chest. "She's being really disrespectful to everyone and she's been causing trouble around here."

My dad leans forward resting both elbows on the table. His fingers interlace together. "Well , that's not what your mother told me. She said you were a little rough with the girl."

"I was only trying to protect my family. Don't you understand that? That little brat disrespects me!"

"You're an Alpha, son. Alphas don't act this way. You need to calm down. There are things we have to learn from each other."

"Like respect? Like loyalty?" I snap angrily rising to my feet. My wolf wants blood and I know it won't listen to reason.

"Calm down, Adam," Dad warns raising a hand.

"Why should I? Look where all our rules got us. You know what happened the last time we let a rogue join the pack. You almost died," I growl.

Dad looks shocked by my outburst. "Adam, I am aware of everything that went down. I did nothing to deserve such treatment. Behave yourself!"

I shake my head. "That doesn't matter now. What matters is protecting my pack. And I will do whatever it takes to ensure their safety. Even if means killing another rogue."

"The girl is harmless. She lost her family a few months ago, and a good friend of mine asked me to take her in. I owed him a lot. Mike saved my life once, when I was about your age. So... I just couldn't say NO."

I frown deeply. "She's not one of ours."

"No, but she'll be treated like one... with time, she'll be one of us. Just give her time," Alpha Trey replies.

"Time for what?! To keep acting like a spoiled brat?!" I shout slamming my fist against the wall. "How could you even allow her into our territory without knowing anything about her?"

"She's just a girl, Adam. A girl who lost her family, her life... everything. I think she deserves some kindness."

"Kindness is NOT treating her like a damn princess! Kindness is teaching her how to behave herself, instead of throwing her in my face whenever I'm around. She's not welcome anywhere near me!"

"Just because she's young, doesn't mean you can treat her however you please."

"She acts like a child!" I roar back. "And there is no excuse for that kind of behavior!" I shout as I storm out of the office. I run downstairs and head for the front door.

"Where do you think you're going?" my dad calls after me.

"To get away from you!" I yell over my shoulder running outside. The sun is high overhead and already starting to heat up the air. I open the car door and slide inside. I start the engine and drive off toward town.

As soon as I pull onto Main Street, I see a group of people standing in front of a building across the street. They look familiar. I slow down so I can check them out. My buddies, Tony and Jimmy.

I get off the road and park beside the curb. I hop out of the vehicle and walk towards them.

"Hey, man!" they greet me happily.

"Hi guys," I reply smiling.

They notice my mood change and immediately become quiet.

"Something wrong?" Tony asks looking concerned.

"Yeah, I need to talk to you two." I sigh rubbing my forehead.

"Come on," Jimmy says grabbing my arm leading me towards the strip club. We step through the entrance and go straight to the bar. I order myself a beer and sit down waiting for my friends.

Jimmy and Tony take their seats next to me, ordering themselves drinks too.

"So what's up, man? You seem pissed."

"Alyssa," I begin. "You know, the mutt my dad brought."

Both of my buddies look confused. "Who's Alyssa? Is she a stripper or something?"

"No, I thought maybe you knew her. Do you?" I ask curiously.

Tony shakes his head while Jimmy shrugs. "Nah, never heard of her."

"What does she want with you then?"

"Nothing really. She's just annoying and a little brat. She thinks she can push everyone around, but she needs to stop. I'm tired of dealing with her shit. If she keeps pushing me, I might just kill her."

"Kill her?" Jimmy asks surprised. He turns to Tony. "Is he serious?"

"He has a point though. That kid is trouble," Tony agrees nodding at me. "Maybe we should find someone else to help train her."

"Train her? You're kidding right? That thing couldn't fight a bunny. I don't even think she has a wolf in her."

"Well, if anyone knows how to handle her, it would be you, bro. Maybe you can teach her some manners."

"Yeah, sure... I'll show her who's boss," I snort sarcastically rolling my eyes. "Maybe I'll fuck her first... you know... teach her a lesson."

"Shut up, dickhead," Jimmy scolds me laughing loudly.

"Fine, fine... whatever," I grumble. "Let's go home, before mom starts asking questions."

We leave the strip club and make our way back to my house. When we arrive, I ask my friends to join me in the living room for a drink. Once we all have settled down, I tell them what happened earlier today.

"Wow," Jimmy says shaking his head. "Your dad must be crazy."

"Not really," I argue. "He's just becoming too soft. It's messing him up. He was always so strict before."

"Alice, bring us some drinks," I say getting up and heading to the kitchen. I grab three beers and come back to sit back down. "I've tried talking to him, telling him what she's doing isn't normal, but he won't listen."

"How old is this chick anyway?" Tony asks taking a sip of his beer. "It seems like your dad hasn't told you much about her."

"She's twenty, and yes my father has been keeping things from me. But I still think he's being an idiot. Why would you allow someone to disrespect you like that?"

"That's easy, mate. Because she's hot. Your dad is only interested in one thing."

"Shut up, dickhead. My dad has always been faithful to my mother."

"Yeah, until now," Jimmy laughs. "I guess there are other reasons why he wouldn't tell you anything either."

"Like what?" I ask curious.

"I don't know. You'll soon find out."

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know you had guests, Adam." Alyssa says as she enters the living room. "Alice sent me to dust the furniture."

"Don't worry about it, sweetheart. Just stay here," Jimmy tells her. "Can I get you a drink?"

"No, thank you. I'll be on my way."

"Why did you come over?" I question her suspiciously.

"Because Alice sent me to dust the furniture."

"Are you spying on me now?" I ask Alyssa annoyed.

"Spying?" she raises an eyebrow. "Of course not. What kind of person do you take me for? Besides, I came because I wanted to apologize."

"Apologize?"

"Yes, for everything. I overheard you and your father fighting."

"And what exactly were you eavesdropping on?"

"I wasn't. You were just shouting," she explains defensively. "Please, excuse me." She stands up and leaves the room without another word.

"Dude, you need to watch yourself with that girl," Tony warns me. "She's dangerous."

"What makes you think so?" I ask turning to face him.

"You haven't seen her yet, but trust me when I tell you she's no ordinary human. There is more going on behind those big blue eyes than meets the eye."

"Really? You think that? So that means I'm not crazy?"

"But she's hot, Adam." Jimmy laughs.

"Okay, okay. I hear ya loud and clear, bro. Don't worry, I'll keep my distance."

"Good, 'cause if she hurts you..." Tony trails off looking away.

"Tony!"

"Just saying, dude," he mutters under his breath.

"Alright, enough already! Let's change the subject before I kick your ass," I laugh.

"You should definitely FUCK her." Tony chuckles.

"Shut up, both of you. Now let's talk about something else besides my sex life or lack thereof."

We spend a little more time catching up and drinking before everyone decides to call it a night. As they walk towards their cars, Jimmy stops and turns around. "Yeah, you should fuck her."

"Shut up!" I laugh and wave to my buddies. "Drive safely!"

They each give me a fist bump then drive away.

When I return to the house I bump into Alyssa who is carrying tray with a glass of milk. The bump throws the liquid all over my shirt and pants.

"Sorry," she apologizes quickly cleaning it up. She quickly grabs a napkin and starts pressing over my chest to clean the milk from my shirt. She blushes when our eyes meet.

"It's fine," I chuckle trying to ignore how good she smells. "Can't you even carry a tray?" I tease.

"I'm new at this job," she replies nervously. "I'm sorry , ok? It was an accident. You don't have to be so mean all the time."

"Well, you're right. Sorry," I reply sarcastically. "Now go ahead and leave."

Alyssa looks shocked by my response. Her mouth opens but nothing comes out, except for the sound of air rushing through her lungs as she takes in a sharp intake of breath.

Alyssa's POVThe silence that follows the knock is so complete I can hear my own heartbeat.Everyone freezes. Adam's hand is still on the door handle, and I see the tension ripple through his shoulders. Marcus shifts left without a word, moving to flank whoever's on the other side. And me? I'm still on the floor with Sophia tucked against my side, too weak to stand but desperately wishing I could.I reach for Healer's Sight instead. The warmth flickers—barely there, like trying to light a match in the wind—but I push it toward the door anyway. Toward whoever's standing on the other side. And I see them. Not clearly. Not like I can see Adam or Marcus. But I see the threads clinging to them—faint traces of rune magic, oily and wrong, hanging in the air like cobwebs.Rune residue.Whoever's out there has been near the ritual site. Recently."Adam," I whisper. "Wait."He glances back at me, and I shake my head slightly. But it's too late. The voice comes again—familiar, frantic—and I reco

  • Alpha's Healer   Chapter 85

Adam's POVI can't go home. The thought sits in my chest like a stone, heavy and cold and wrong. The packhouse is where I'm supposed to be. Where my family is supposed to be safe. Where my wolves gather and my council meets and everything is supposed to make sense. But one of them sold us out.One of my own people looked at my mate and my daughter and decided they were acceptable losses. And I don't know who.I pace the cabin—three steps one way, three steps back—and try to think past the rage clawing through my skull.Alyssa is still unconscious in the corner, Sophia curled against her side. Both of them too pale. Too still. The bond between me and Alyssa is barely a whisper now, and every time I check it I taste copper. She's dying. And I can't fix it because I can't go home."Adam." Marcus's voice cuts through the spiral. "You need to make a call.""I know.""Packhouse has healers. Supplies. Brynne—""And a traitor."Marcus's jaw tightens. "We don't know that for sure.""Yes, we do

  • Alpha's Healer   Chapter 84

Alyssa's POVThe fire Marcus built crackles in the corner, throwing shadows across the walls, and I can't stop staring at the wards. They're everywhere. Carved into the doorframe. Scratched into the windowsills. Burned into the floorboards near the hearth. And I know every single one.Not because I studied them. Not because someone taught me.Because they're in my blood. The same flowing script as the marks on my pendant. The same careful spacing. The same tiny flourish at the end of each line that my grandmother used to say was "the healer's signature."This cabin was made by someone in my family. And I have no idea how that's possible."Alyssa."Adam's voice cuts through my spiraling thoughts, and I blink and turn toward him. He's pacing—three steps to the wall, pivot, three steps back—like a caged wolf. His shirt is torn and bloodstained, and I can see the dark lines of poison still creeping under his skin near the wound. But his eyes are locked on me."You need to rest," he says.

  • Alpha's Healer   Chapter 83

Adam's POVI choose the hardest route on purpose.Through the creek bed where the water runs fast and cold, up the rocky embankment where there's no soil to hold scent, across the ridge where the wind tears through strong enough to scatter any trail we leave. It's brutal. Every step sends fresh pain through my side where the poison sits like a coiled snake, and carrying Alyssa's dead weight makes my shoulders scream. But I don't slow down. Can't slow down.Marcus flanks me, moving silent and tense, his eyes constantly scanning the tree line. Cara stumbles along behind us, breathing hard, still clutching that damn healer satchel like it's going to save us.Sophia is tucked against my chest, wrapped in what's left of my jacket, and she hasn't made a sound in ten minutes. That scares me more than the howls in the distance."Status," I grunt at Marcus."Blackstone Alpha got away," he says, low and clipped. "Wounded but mobile. He'll regroup."Of course he will."How long do we have?""May

  • Alpha's Healer   Chapter 82

Alyssa's POVI'm drowning. No—that's not right. Drowning would mean water, movement, the desperate struggle for air. This is worse. This is sinking into ice.My body doesn't feel like mine anymore. It's distant. Heavy. Like I'm wearing someone else's skin and it doesn't quite fit. I try to move my fingers and nothing happens. Try to open my eyes and the effort is too much. But I can hear."Alyssa."Adam's voice. Rough. Desperate. Like he's calling from the other side of a wall."Alyssa, stay with me."I want to answer. Want to tell him I'm here, I'm trying, I'm not going anywhere. But the words won't come. All I can feel is cold.It starts in my chest—a hollow, aching emptiness where the warmth used to live—and spreads outward. Through my ribs. Down my arms. Into my fingers.I gave too much. The thought drifts through my mind, slow and sluggish, and I know it's true. The tether I created—the lock I forced into place to keep Sophia safe—it didn't just drain my power. It drained me."—n

  • Alpha's Healer   Chapter 81

Adam's POVI know that voice. My brain tries to reject it—tries to tell me I'm wrong, that the poison is making me hallucinate, that there's no way—But I'm not wrong. The council insignia on their chest catches the firelight. Blackwood colors. Our colors. And that face—I've seen it across war tables, in strategy meetings, standing at my back during territorial disputes. My mind goes blank.Just… blank.Like someone reached into my skull and erased everything except the single, impossible fact standing in front of me:One of mine betrayed us.My wolf doesn't make a sound. For one heartbeat, it's completely silent—so silent I think maybe it's gone, maybe the poison finally killed it—and then it erupts.KILL. KILL. TRAITOR. RIP. TEAR. KILL—The rage is so overwhelming I can't see. Can't think. Can't do anything except hold Alyssa's cold body against my chest and shake."Easy, Adam." The traitor's voice is soft. Gentle. Like they're talking to a spooked animal. Their hands are up, palms
