The morning air was cold and sharp as we rode through the empty streets. Our bikes cut through the morning darkness like wolves on the hunt.

I could feel the tension between my pack members. Michael rode behind me, his anger rolling off him in waves. Joseph stayed close to Michael's side, almost like they were planning something.

Joseph had barely said a word to me since the fight. The stupid challenge that almost tore us apart.

"This is fucking awkward," Jordan muttered over the bike radio.

"Shut up," Rika's voice crackled back.

"Just saying. You could cut the tension with a knife."

I heard the sound of Rika's bike getting closer to Jordan's.

"Hey! Watch it!" Jordan yelled in slight panic. "You trying to kill me?"

"Maybe," Rika shot back.

But I caught the smile in her voice. And Jordan was laughing even as he cursed her out.

Those two had something going on. Something they wouldn't admit to themselves.

Any other time, I might have found it funny. Today, I just wanted to get this don

The silence after the battle felt heavier than the fighting.I sat on the cold ground, my whole body shaking. Not from fear but from guilt.Elder Thorne was dead. The man who had been talking to me just minutes before the attack. Who had been trying to help me understand my wolf. Now he was gone. Torn apart by vampires who came here looking for me."This is your fault."Michael's voice cut through the quiet like a blade. Everyone turned to look at him.He stood in the center of the compound, his clothes torn and bloody. His eyes glowed with rage as he stared at me."They came for her," he said louder. "The vampires. They attacked our home because of her."I wanted to say something. To defend myself. But the words wouldn't come.He was right."Look around you," Michael continued. "Look at what she's brought us. Death. Destruction. And for what?"Some of the pack members nodded. Others just stared at the ground."Michael, that's enough," Axel said. His voice was low and dangerous."No,

The new mirror caught the morning light as I sat on my bed at 5:25 AM. Rika had given me the gown last night after the whole issue with the pack. Said I needed to "see myself clearly" if I wanted to survive here. I wasn't sure what she meant then. Now I did.The woman staring back at me wasn't the polished senator's wife I used to be. My dark hair fell in waves past my shoulders, messy from the little sleep I had. The thin nightgown clung to my curves in a way that would have made Blake furious. Too revealing and very tempting. But here, it just made me feel like myself. My green eyes looked tired. My skin was pale but not fragile anymore. There were small scars on my hands from training. Proof that I was learning to fight. My body had changed too. Stronger and more defined. The soft curves were still there, but now they came with muscle underneath. Power that I was only beginning to understand.I touched my neck where Axel's scent still lingered from when he'd held me.Last night pl

I couldn't get the image out of my head.Calla crouched by that stream. Half-wolf, half-human and completely wild. The way she'd looked at me like she wanted to rip my throat out with no recognition and no single awareness of who I was.She could have killed me.The thought made my chest tight. Not because I was afraid of dying. But because in that moment, I'd seen what she really was.Powerful. Dangerous. And completely untrained. If she lost control like that around humans..."Axel." Jace appeared beside me. "We need to talk."I was standing on the balcony outside my room. The night air was chilly as it was past midnight."What now?" I asked.Jace pulled out his phone. "Got word from our contact in Washington. Your girl's ex-husband is busy."I turned to look at him. "Busy how?""He's pushing something called the Supernatural Registration Acts through Congress."My blood went cold. "What?""Officially, it's about 'identifying and tracking dangerous individuals with unusual abilities

The memory hit me in waves as Axel carried me through the forest. His voice cutting through the red haze in my mind. Strong and commanding, but gentle."Look at me."I remembered how his alpha power had washed over me like cool water on burning skin. How it had pulled me back from the edge of madness."You know this voice."I had known it. Even when the beast inside me wanted to tear him apart, some part of me recognized him.My alpha. My mate. The words had broken through the feral rage like nothing else could. They were truth carved into my bones. But now, walking back toward the compound, shame burned in my chest.I had attacked the pack. Drew blood from someone who had never hurt me. Proved that everything Michael said about me was right.I was dangerous. A monster.Axel stopped walking suddenly. We were at the edge of the compound, close enough to see the lights but hidden in the shadows. He was hesitating.I understood why."It's okay," I whispered against his neck. "I understan

I couldn't sleep.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Michael's face. Heard his words echoing in my head.Maybe someone should challenge me for leadership. The threat hung over everything like a storm cloud. I'd built this pack from nothing. Saved most of these wolves from death or worse. And now they were ready to throw it all away because of one woman.Because of Calla.I rolled over and stared at the ceiling. My wolf was restless, pacing under my skin like a caged animal.Everything was falling apart. The vampires were picking off innocent people. Broken Howl was selling poison to our humans. My pack was splitting down the middle. And I was stuck in the center, trying to hold it all together. For what? The question hit me like a punch to the gut.For Calla. Everything I was risking, everything I was losing, it was all for her.A woman who couldn't even shift properly. Who brought nothing but danger and chaos into our lives. But then I thought about her eyes when she looked at me. Th
