Kai POVI felt my throat constrict with tears at the thought of speaking with Lily. Even my thousand pleas had fallen to the ground with Celeste and my grandparents. All I asked for was to convince, Lily to drive past the main pack house building and just stay in the car. She didn’t need to know I was there, I just wanted to see her. Kai POVThe amber liquid swirled in my glass as I stared out the window of my office, watching the late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the pack grounds. Three days. It had been three days since I'd seen Lily, since I'd held her in my arms by the lake, since I'd nearly killed the woman I loved more than life itself.I lifted the whiskey to my lips, savoring the burn as it slid down my throat. Then I put a stop to everything I was supposed to do that would take more than thirty minutes.”

Lily POVMy heart sank. Retired? But I had just spoken with her a few weeks ago. Around that time, I and Kai were having issues with the girl he rescued. Unless... unless that conversation had taken place longer ago than I remembered. The past week had been such a blur of trauma and recovery that my sense of time might be completely off."No, thank you," I said, forcing a polite smile. "I was just hoping to continue a conversation we'd started."
