Dangerous Alliances

Author: Emily J.
(Elara's POV)

The antiseptic smell of the pack hospital made my nose wrinkle. Emily whimpered softly inside me, still weak from the silver poisoning. The bandages on my wrists felt tight, reminding me of what I'd done to myself.

The door opened suddenly, slamming against the wall.

Seraphina Thorne swept in like she owned the place. Her designer outfit probably cost more than my entire wardrobe. The expensive leather bag on her arm gleamed under the hospital lights.

Her wolf's dominance hit me like a wave, pressing down on Emily who cowered inside me. I fought the urge to look away.

Behind her stood Victor Thorne, Lucian's father. His face showed the dignity of a former Alpha, though his eyes lacked Lucian's intensity.

Seraphina's perfect lips twisted when she spotted Lucian near my bed.

"Victor," she said sweetly but with venom. "Your son is already here."

The way she said "your son" made it clear she didn't consider herself his mother. Victor frowned as he looked at Lucian sta

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Pack Scrutiny and Protected Bonds

(God's POV)"Miss Fiona Bell, why did your wolf choose to interfere with another wolf's pack bond?" a reporter shouted, thrusting a pack communication device forward."I heard your cousin, Veronica Hayes, bullied others during pack training. What does your wolf think about this?" came another question.Fiona's face twisted with rage. "What nonsense! Shut off those recording devices!" She glared at the crowd. "Since you know my pack standing, turn them off now. If you dare report this, my Alpha uncle won't spare your miserable hides."From the doorway, Elara Rivers watched silently. Beside her, Sasha Tucker leaned against the frame with a smirk."You know what a fool like her reveals?" Sasha whispered. "That their pack's influence won't shield them forever."The pack network reporters pressed harder, surrounding Fiona like hunters closing in on prey."Is it true that your family encourages breaking established pack bonds?""Does the Bell Pack believe itself above pack law?"Fio

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Pack Schemes and Public Stains

(Lucian's POV)I watched Peter Vance sprawl across my office sofa, dropping roasted nut crumbs everywhere."Since Theresa Rivers refuses the wolf bloodline verification, there must be something fishy," Peter said between bites. "My wolf checked: when Isabella Stone was living as Elara, Theresa treated her like treasure. Even if she knew Isabella was a pack heiress, it wouldn't explain why Theresa turned hostile so quickly after her real daughter was found."I nodded. His point made sense."That's not hard for my wolf," Peter added confidently. "Caleb Rivers will cooperate. If I get strands of Caleb and Elara's hair, a blood relation test will reveal everything.""So your wolf does have its uses in a pinch," I replied dryly.Peter frowned. "And yet no rewards? What about that luxury SUV you acquired last year...?"I cut him off. "We'll discuss rewards after the matter is resolved.""Stingy as always," Peter grumbled. "That vehicle is just sitting in your territory garage, collec

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Pack Shadows and Paternal Claims

(Elara's POV)I checked the washing area mirror, studying my flushed cheeks. Lucian's touch still lingered on my skin, awakening sensations I'd thought long buried beneath layers of silver contamination and trauma. Emily stirred inside me, more responsive than she'd been in years.Suddenly, the sound of wailing pups shattered the moment. My maternal instincts surged instantly. I rushed out, heart pounding, to find Ethan in tears in the kitchen. Beside him stood another pup—the small boy who had arrived earlier claiming I was his mother."What happened?" I asked, moving toward Ethan. Before I could reach him, Lucian stepped between us, his arm blocking my path."Careful," he warned, nodding toward the strange pup.I peered around Lucian's protective stance to get a better look at our unexpected visitor. Both boys were sobbing with identical expressions of distress, tears streaming down their flushed cheeks."Mommy!" the Foster pup cried, darting beneath Lucian's arm and throwing

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Pack Bonds and Promises

(Lucian's POV)I pushed open the door to my private territory, Ethan in my arms. The rich scent of venison stew hit me immediately. Elara stood in the kitchen doorway, wearing a simple apron, her dark hair tied back loosely."Wash up," she said, smiling softly. "It's time to eat."Something shifted inside me. Luke stirred with recognition. This was what a pack den should feel like.I stood frozen, suddenly struck by the realization. My childhood in Victor's cold pack home had made me resist forming a mate bond or having pups. Yet here with Elara and Ethan, everything felt right."Dad? Can I go wash my hands?" Ethan's voice pulled me back.I set him down and followed him to the washing area, hiding the unexpected warmth spreading through my chest.(Lucian's POV)"Mom, Hunter Thorne didn't go to pack school today," Ethan announced at the dinner table.Elara looked up, surprised. She glanced at me for confirmation."He might be sick," I said with a shrug. Hunter wasn't my concer

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Emotional Fault Lines

(Caleb's POV)"Isn't this your doing?" I said coldly to my mother as she stood trembling before me. "I've already alerted the Pack Council enforcers. They'll be here soon. If my Alpha employer presses charges under pack law, you'll have to face the consequences."Mother's face crumpled with disbelief. Her wolf seemed smaller after years in the silver-laced containment facility."Caleb! I'm your mother!" she cried, as if those words could shield her from her actions.I stayed silent, letting my disapproval sink in. Territory security wolves formed a perimeter around us. Pack communication devices recorded everything, ensuring this drama would spread through the pack network by nightfall. Finally, I spoke, my voice deliberately calm. "Do you think the enforcers will let you off just because you're my mother?"She had no answer. Her mouth opened and closed without sound. The fire that had fueled her attacks against Elara died under my gaze."You shouldn't be roaring here because yo

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Pack Confrontations and Hidden Debts

(Lucian's POV)I stood by the window of my private territory, listening to the morning news on my pack communication device. Reports confirmed that the White Moon Pack School leadership had been removed after the incident with Ethan and Hunter. My device rang. It was Chloe Hayes from Pack Administration Resources."Alpha Thorne," she whispered urgently, "Elara Rivers's mother is causing a scene at Thorne Enterprises. The Elders want to remove Elara from her position..."My blood ran cold. "Elara is my personal pack coordinator. Not even the Elders can dismiss her.""But sir, Victor Thorne is suggesting—""Stay out of it. I'm on my way."After hanging up, I called Caleb Rivers."Don't let Elara know what's happening," I instructed. Then I asked the question that had been bothering me: "Is Elara really your mother's biological daughter?"There was silence before Caleb answered painfully, "Yes. But sometimes I wish she weren't.""I'll handle Thorne Enterprises. You handle Theres

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Pack Echoes and Hidden Debts

(Elara's POV)My throat closed as I stood frozen outside Caleb's den. Words failed me, Emily cowering so deeply inside I could barely feel her. Tears streamed silently down my cheeks.Lucian stepped forward without hesitation, pulling me into his arms. His familiar scent enveloped me, and his body heat penetrated my chilled skin. He shot Caleb a warning look over my head.Caleb opened his mouth, then closed it. The weight of Lucian's dominant presence seemed to press the words back down his throat."There she is!" Theresa's shrill voice sliced through the night air.I flinched and turned to see her marching out with Aunt Willow in tow."Whose transport is this?" Aunt Willow demanded loudly, gesturing at Lucian's luxury SUV. "Must be worth a fortune in hunting rights, right?"Her gaze traveled from the vehicle to Lucian's protective arm around my waist. "The Alpha King?"Within seconds, the small yard filled with Rivers pack relatives, pouring out of Caleb's cramped den to whisp

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Pack Tensions and Unspoken Debts

(Lucian's POV)I stood at the bathtub edge, watching Hunter Thorne sit in the water with Ethan. Hunter's nose kept running, spreading snot across his face with each wipe."Dad, your face looks kind of dark..." Ethan said, his green eyes watching me.I hadn't expected to babysit both pups while Elara visited the Rivers' territory. Ethan was manageable, but Hunter with his cold tested my patience."I'm fine," I handed Hunter a tissue. "Blow."The boy made a disgusting sound that made Luke growl inside me."Now throw that away," I instructed.Hunter dropped the tissue into the bathwater."No, not in the water. The trash bin.""Sorry, Uncle," Hunter mumbled, fishing out the soggy tissue and holding it toward me.I stepped back. "Just leave it on the side.""Ethan, Hunter, you're not two or three anymore," I said firmly. "You need to learn to wash by yourselves, right?"Ethan nodded. "Yes, Dad."Hunter counted on his fingers. "Uncle, I'm five now. Not a little pup!""Exactly.

  • Alpha's Regret After I Mated to His Brother   Pack Echoes and Hidden Debts

(Lucian's POV)My pack communication device buzzed again. Cassandra's name flashed on the screen for the fifth time. I silenced it with a swipe of my thumb, my patience wearing thin.Beside me in the luxury SUV, Elara sat quietly. Her face had paled considerably since ending her call with Caleb."Do you need to go back to Ocean City in a hurry?" I asked, keeping my voice gentle."Caleb's... mother, Theresa Rivers, she's out of the silver-laced containment facility," she finally said, her voice barely above a whisper. "She said she wants to see my wolf.""You don't seem pleased," I observed.Elara's fingers twisted together in her lap. "I don't even know what to call her. How do you address the woman who both saved and condemned you?"(Elara's POV)Memories surged through me like a bitter tide. After the Stone Pack cast me out, Caleb took me in. We lived in his small neutral territory den. Theresa Rivers was still free then, not yet imprisoned for her role in the identity swap.
