Book 2 Chapter 16

Chloe’s POV

I lay in my bed inside the room I shared with Liam, trying to fall asleep at least to let go of the memories that haunted me but no matter how hard I tried, sleep just wouldn’t come.

I kept hearing Lucy’s voice in my head, telling me to talk to Liam, to tell him what I was feeling instead of bottling it up. But how?

I know he’d understand every one of my bordered thoughts that I shared with him, but I find it hard to even say a word, he was also worried about the kids.

After a while of thought and couldn’t lay my hand on a thing to do, the frustration of tossing and turning got the best of me.

I threw on my robe, slipped into my slippers, and stride softly down the hall.

A faint light was coming from the kids’ room. I wonder if the kid had slept without turning off the light.

I walked toward the door and pushed it open only to find Liam sitting on the edge of the bed, watching our children sleep.

His face softened in the glow of the nightli

Book 2 Chapter 17 Liam’s POV The early morning sunlight filtered through the blinds as I got out of the bathroom, moving quietly so I wouldn’t disturb Chloe or wake her up from her sleep. I’d have loved her to follow me to the meeting I’m attending but seeing her sleeping peacefully eases me and I won’t want to cut her sleep short. Ever since I told her about her father’s betrayal, I’d sensed a shift in her, sometimes she found it hard to sleep peacefully and was always frightened even if a slight thing touched her. She was carrying a burden she hadn’t asked for, and it hurt me to see her worry so much. I finished dressing, and I turned back only to find Chloe already awake, sitting up in bed with a thoughtful expression on her face early in the morning. Her eyes met mine, and she pressed a fake smile just to cover up her thoughtful place but I knew something was wrong. “Hey good morning,” I said softly, walking over to her. “How was your night's rest?” I asked petting

Book 2 Chapter 18 Liam’s POV I barely had time to process what was happening before my head started spinning and everything became double. I wanted to support my hand on the wall but I felt Liam's hand grabbing my hand and squeezing it with a silent plea to stay calm. His face is taut, his eyes flickering with a warning that makes my heart pound harder. Before I can ask what’s going on, I spot Mendy and Jax, striding over with smug smiles with a step of entitlement that makes my skin crawl. Mendy is all sultry confidence, her gaze trailing over me with a look that’s more disdainful than friendly. And Jax… he doesn’t even bother hiding the way he’s watching me, his eyes lingering on me like I’m some piece of meat he can’t wait to sink his teeth into. That alone makes me feel weak. “Chloe,” Mendy purrs, a mocking sweetness in her voice as she gives me a look up and down. “Lovely to see you.” The way she says it, the way her mouth curls up at the edges, makes it clear that she’s

It’s supposed to be a celebration, a chance for everyone to come together and show support. But somehow, it feels like I’m just a spectator, watching the crowd swarm around Mendy as if she’s the main attraction. She’s in her element, basking in the attention as a few of the Lunas gather around her, practically hanging on her every word. I catch snippets of their conversation, the way they lean in close, their expressions gleeful as they pepper her with questions. “How did you manage to snap up Alpha Jax?” one of them asks, her voice carrying just enough curiosity to sound genuine. Mendy’s laugh is light, almost too innocent. “Oh, you know,” she says, glancing over at me with a saccharine smile. “After my mate was… stolen, I had to make do with what was left.” The implication lands squarely on me, and I feel my stomach twist. I should ignore her, let her

The way she looks at me tells me that she’s furious with me, but there’s something else in her expression too. Fear? Maybe. Distrust? Probably. And I can’t blame her for it.“What was that all about?” I ask, forcing my voice to stay calm, even though the sight of Jax so close to her just moments ago makes my blood boil. She hesitates, crossing her arms tightly across her chest. “I don’t know. But this is all your fault,” she says finally, voice steely. “If you’d told me about Mendy and Jax sooner, maybe I’d be prepared. But instead, you chose to keep me in the dark.”“I was trying to protect you,” I take a step closer, hoping she’ll see how much I regret the decision. “I thought…..”“It’s okay!” She cuts me off with a sharp look, her eyes blazing. “Don’t, Liam. Book 2 Chapter 21Chloe’s POV I escape the party crowd, heading toward a quiet corner for a moment to catch my breath. It’s exhausting being here, watching Mendy flaunt herself in front of everyone as if she owns the place. I feel like I’m standing on a shaky cliff, waiting for the inevitable plunge into chaos. My instincts are screaming at me to stay alert, to be prepared, but for what, I’m not entirely sure.Just as I’m calming my nerves, I hear someone approaching. I turn to see an old acquaintance—Luna Evelyn, a woman whose husband has been one of Liam’s close friends for years. She’s a graceful, fierce woman, someone I’ve always admired, and the look of concern on her face tells me she has something to say.“Chloe,” she greets, giving me a warm but guarded smile. “It’s been too long.”I nod, managing a small smile in return. “Luna, it’s good to see you. I didn’t know you’d be here.” I replied. She glances over her shoulder toward the crowd, where Mendy is entertaining her rapt

My instincts are buzzing, a nagging feeling at the back of my mind telling me that she should have been here by now. I pull out my phone, and quickly type a message; I’m inside the meeting. Let me know where you are.I hit send, but I don’t wait long. As soon as the notification shows it’s delivered, I slide the phone back into my pocket and make my way to the head of the room, taking my seat as the current chairman. A small nod from the council elder signals that it’s time to start, and I shift my focus, forcing myself to stay present.Every year, this gathering is supposed to bring the packs together, to find solutions, to unite us in strength and stability. I try to push it down, but the more I think about Jax’s blatant challenge, the more I realize how precarious my position is. The fact that I won by a single vote, wasn’t a victory, it was luck. Pure chance that swayed a single Alpha in my direction. The rest of them had barely hesitated before they’d cast their votes for Jax.I try to calm my breathing, to steady my pulse as I sit there at the head of the table, listening to the ongoing murmur of voices around me. The room buzzes with uneasy chatter. Some of the Alphas are trying to reassure me, telling me not to take the vote too personally, but I can feel the cold bite of their words.“Jax is growing stronger,” one of them says, and I can hear the worry in his voice, even as he tries to mask it with indifference. “Maybe it’s time to accept that he should take the position.”Another chimes in, shaking his head. “But he’s dangerous. I couldn’t shake the image of Chloe, standing there the raw pain in her eyes. She’d been through enough already. The last thing I wanted was for her to suffer more.Soon the security guard finally arrived with the key, I practically snatched it from his hand. “You took your sweet time,” I snapped, irritation boiling over. He flinched but didn’t respond, probably knowing better than to argue. Without a second thought, I shoved the door open, my heart pounding. The sight that greeted me was worse than I expected. Chloe was sitting on the floor, curled up with her knees to her chest, tears streaking down her face. Epilogue. Three years later. I stood in front of all the people that made mockery of me in the last few years and I came up with an idea that was going to yield a greater impact than whatever they decided to dump on me. It was going to take a long time before I finally gave up because now there was a reason for me to become Luna.Firstly, my eyes roamed about the crowd that had gathered one way or the other and I felt immensely proud of myself and my achievements. I had not wasted any time in making sure that this was completed and this made me very interested in whatever I could get. My eyes rested on my family which had come together after the first issue."Today we gathered together as a pack and celebrated the fact that we have only one person in our midst who has been wonderful through the beginning of time. We must have wronged her but she had never used this opportunity against us!" A moderator spoke on the platform, making me smile a little bit. Everyone's gaze was fille

The only way they would be able to make a difference because if they were able to push Chloe away.Mendy hugged him tightly, planting a small kiss on his lips as everything she had ever wished for was falling into place in her very eyes. "If anyone had told me that I was going to experience this, I would never have believed it but, here I am with the most amazing man, who doesn't hesitate to do whatever I want. I think I'm the luckiest woman on Earth." Liam's feet tapped the ground in anger but he refused to allow himself to be mad at her. "Yeah, right." Scott and Ryan were already doing their thing, and it was up to him to have them get more answers. "So what do you want us to do? Do you want me to bring the kids over again or to kick Chloe out?" He asked in a somewhat weird voice. This was enough to sell the script that

Chapter 139. Author's POV. At Jax's pack, Jax walked out of his room with his head held high as he thought of the best way to humiliate the woman who had tried to make his life miserable. She had proven to be stubborn and he was going to love it when he broke her into pieces and made her forget the fact that she ever wanted to leave him. It was going to take a lot of mental stress, but what better way than to discover somebody who had wasted her time trying to fight for us, something that even she didn't understand. It was hard to say the least at least from the beginning but now that he had the upper hand, he was going to make it into whatever you wanted and hoped that she wouldn't come against him. "I hope you know that it's my birthday and you have to dance before everybody." He asked. Chloe looked up from the book she was reading. He had been kind enough to allow her access to books so that she wouldn't be bored out of her mind. He had claimed that this was the be

Chapter 138. Liam's POV. I jumped out of bed almost immediately as though somebody had pinched me. I looked around and found myself being alone in a room, wondering what the hell had happened and why I couldn't explain to anyone how I had felt. It was almost like I was telling a lie but I knew deep down that it wasn't. This was as real as possible. Something had changed inside of me. I looked at the teacup on my bed and smelt something weird. I picked it up immediately, inspecting the contents, and realizing it was just normal coffee, but something was highly different. The door opened immediately and I saw Bryan come in without my permission. "How are you feeling today?""When did you start being nice to me?" I demanded from him. "I think it has started to work and that's why you are trying to grasp why everything is upside down." "I still do not understand what you are talking about. I would love more context so that I have a perfect idea." I answered, a little bit worried

Chapter 137.Author's POV. One month later, Ryan and Lucy stood in front of the table in Liam's office this time fixated on him as they looked up and down coming up with nothing else but anger."What is the report from the people back there?""Everyone says that they have not been able to find her. In fact her scent is highly untraceable as everybody believes that she has probably decided to shield herself from the public. Are you sure she has been talking or this is just a way of getting her sanity back?" Lucy asked, a little worried but thinking of other possibilities. Chloe was a woman of many skills and sometimes she could deserve to come up with something but they wouldn't be able to comprehend. If that was the case, then they needed to be as careful as possible and not just Rush into conclusions like that. Liam came in just as they were having the conversation and was a little bit stifled even though he couldn't just ask how things had been going because of the bad relation

Chapter 136.Chloe's POV. Two weeks later, "There is only one place that I know that Mendy would never fail to take those kids to and that is back to Jax pack." Ryan's words rang in my head. It wasn't as simple as that because then I had so much to prove and I hoped that I was able to bring him back on track. I walked into a place that was formerly mine and my mouth fell wide open as I saw Sophia leaning on Jax's body stroking his chin softly. "What the hell is going on here?" I demanded angrily when I saw the way she continued even in my very presence without feeling like she had done something wrong. Sophia stood reluctantly, "I don't know why you are screaming. This is not your jurisdiction where you can do whatever you like so I would suggest that you tame your voice." My eyes widened at the second betrayal that I had received in the last few weeks. Why did everyone I trust turn on me so badly and make me feel like a fool? "You are not even sorry about your actions!" "Th

Bryan attended a meeting that was supposed to help assist us on knowing how exactly to deal with my brother's case. Things were already getting out of hand and I didn't know how to handle it. Most importantly, I felt a little bit weird inside my bones as I was left with nothing but people just conversing and making mockery of me as I walked around the pack where I was once respected but now disgraced. My kids were still nowhere to be found and I felt like running mad but decided to hold myself together because if I did let myself go, how on earth was I supposed to get them back? That would simply be allowing Mendy to win and that was the last thing on my mind right now. All I needed was the faith that I was going to be able to overcome this without even batting an eyelid.
