Jean's POV

I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Every time I stepped into the packhouse now, I felt a tight, unnameable weight pressing down on me.

It wasn’t Manny’s illness, not exactly, though I admitted to myself that seeing him so weak unsettled me.

It wasn’t even purely Lexi. I had known she would return eventually, had expected it, had even anticipated the chaos she could bring with her effortless charm and her certainty.

And yet, the sight of her in the same room as him, touching him, leaning into him, smiling at him, something inside me shivered, a cold, gnawing thing that I could not explain.

I arrived that morning earlier than usual, the packhouse quiet in the kind of pre-dawn hush that felt like it could swallow a person whole if they weren’t careful.

I paused outside Manny’s room, the soft shuffle of his blanket and the gentle hum of his breathing reaching me even before I opened the door.

Lexi was there, of course. She perched beside him on the bed, speaking softly,

Lexi’s POVMorning rose over the packhouse slowly, pale and quiet, the kind of morning that felt like the world itself was catching its breath after a long, unbearable nightmare. The last two nights have been crazy, but I believed we were all past that now.The air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of wet leaves and the electric tang of ozone, remnants of the chaos that had raged through the night.Everything looked cleansed, though nothing could ever truly erase the scars left behind. I stood at the window, watching the first rays of sunlight slip through the trees, touching the remnants of our field with a delicate, almost mocking softness.Danny moved through the garden below, carrying the ashes in his hands. I couldn’t see his face clearly, but the way he carried them, with a careful reverence, told me everything.Jax was beside him, silent, a steadfast shadow. I could sense the tension coiled in his posture, the same tension that always lingered after we had faced the worst the

Danny’s POVThe night after the fire clung to the packhouse like a weight I couldn’t shake.Smoke still lingered in corners. The house, which had been alive with the chaos of Clara’s final battle, now felt hollow, a vessel emptied of everything but grief.Jean was gone. Serena had sacrificed herself. Clara was dead, finally. And yet, nothing in the stillness told me that the danger had truly passed. It was as if some unfinished thread remained, pulling at the edges of my consciousness, whispering that the end was never really the end.I tried to move, trying to organize my thoughts, but the weight pressing on me was unrelenting. Each sound from outside, a crackling branch, the distant call of a bird, made me flinch. Then it came. A howl, unlike any I had heard before. It cut through the night, splitting the darkness like a blade. The sound was raw, aching, and instantly familiar, Kiran. I heard the howl that day we were together.I froze where I stood. My blood reacted before my mind

Lexi’s POVThe silence that followed that storm was suffocating, heavy, pressing against my ears as if the world were holding its breath. The packhouse smelled of burnt herbs and a bit of burnt flesh too, remnants of the battle Serena had waged against Clara’s dark hold.Everything felt unreal. Jean’s lifeless body lay sprawled on the floor, yet there was a strange serenity etched across her face. For a moment, I couldn’t reconcile the horror of the night with the peace she now bore. Her lips curved into a faint, peaceful smile, and it struck me how small, how fragile life could seem in the shadow of such power.Manny collapsed beside Danny. He was trembling, weak, the exorcism having drained every ounce of energy from him, she had her stronghold on him and that was the reason. His blackened veins had finally receded, the curse lifting like smoke disappearing into the morning air.I crouched beside him, pressing his hand into mine, whispering, “It’s over. It’s finally over, Manny. You

Jax’ POVThat very moment froze in a way that made the world seem unreal. My eyes locked on Serena, and for a split second, I thought time itself had halted.Jean’s body collapsed with a graceless thud, black smoke coiling like a living thing as it poured toward Serena. My muscles locked, and my voice seemed to have fled me entirely. “No…” I whispered, but it was almost swallowed by the crackling energy around her.The smoke had reached her in an instant, a black river that wrapped around her body and seeped into her skin.Serena’s lips quivered, and she lifted a trembling hand as if she could hold the darkness at bay.“She’s inside me now,” she breathed, voice low, but steady enough for me to hear.I wanted to run forward, to grab her and shake her, to scream at this cruel twist of fate, but she lifted a hand, her eyes meeting mine with a determination I could almost touch. “Jax… don’t,” she said firmly. “I can end this. I told you… this was my purpose.”Her words struck me harder th

Serena’s POVThe circle beneath me glowed brighter, pulsing with energy that hummed against my bones. I could feel the vibrations of the packhouse, the shouts, the struggle, the power clashing around me, but I forced myself to focus, to block out everything else. My hands moved in precise arcs, tracing symbols of protection, binding, and expulsion, the air thick with the scent of herbs and moonlit water.“Stay with me,” I muttered under my breath, eyes locked on Clara, who was now thrashing and snarling at the edges of the circle. Her shadow stretched and twisted, dark tendrils lashing out like serpents seeking prey. Every time she moved, the energy from her struck against the circle like a hammer against iron.Lexi shouted from the side, “Serena, be careful! She is stronger than we thought!”I did not look at her, did not let my attention waver. “I know,” I said, voice steady, though a tension coiled in my chest that I refused to acknowledge. “This is why we do it together.”Manny

Clara’s POV (through Jean)Can't say I was shocked when they bursted into my house. I expected it, but not this soon. Apparently I had underestimated them to an extent, I would have been a lot more prepared, buy well… I felt the first tug of restraint and instinctively fought against it, every muscle coiling like a spring ready to snap.More hands gripped me, Lexi, Jax, several of the guards, and I knew they thought they could hold me and that they could control me. They were wrong. The dark tendrils of my power surged through me, thrumming like live wires under my skin.“You think you can contain me?” I spat, keeping my voice low and venomous, echoing against the walls of the packhouse. I twisted violently in the hold of one guard, sending him sprawling backward with a sharp crack as his shoulder hit the floor. “Pathetic.”Another guard lunged, and I lashed out, a flicker of darkness bursting from my hands, making him stumble back. The air around me seemed to thrum with energy,
