Asher’s POV

The whiskey burned as it slid down my throat, a sensation I had always hated. Alcohol had never been my thing, but right now, it was the only thing keeping me sane. I poured another glass, gripping it tightly as thoughts of her consumed me.

Why the hell was she so intoxicating? Why couldn’t I just forget her, erase her from my mind, and go back to the way I used to be—calm, controlled, untouchable?

But no matter how hard I tried, she was like a drug. My own personal heroin.

A bitter, crazed laugh tore from my lips, uncontrollable and almost manic. The sound echoed in the empty room as I gritted my teeth and hurled the glass at the wall. It shattered instantly, fragments scattering across the floor like the pieces of my damn self-control.

I shoved my fingers through my hair, gripping the strands in frustration.

I should leave this house. I should go back home.

But I couldn't.

Because I knew Zachary would show up soon, and I wanted—no, needed—to be here. Wi

Isabella’s POV “You’re the father of Betty’s child,” I said, my voice trembling with disbelief as my eyes widened in shock. Asher froze. His eyes mirrored mine—wide, stunned. He pushed his hair back with shaking fingers, and the gesture made my stomach twist even more. “So it’s true,” I whispered, a painful lump rising in my throat. “You’re the father.” He stepped forward instinctively, but I took a step back. His expression shifted instantly—fear flashing across his face like a crack in glass. “Isabella, please… listen to me,” he said, his voice cracking with desperation. “She says I’m the father, but I swear—I know I’m not. I’m not the father of her child.” I let out a sharp laugh, bitter and broken. “You slept with her, Asher,” I snapped, eyes burning. “Have you forgotten? You fucked her.” From the corner, Michael cleared his throat. “I’ll leave you two,” he muttered before walking out and closing the door behind him. Asher’s voice dropped low. “I admit I slept

Asher’s POV She smirked at me with no remorse in her eyes, and that only made my anger boil over. “You killed Isabella’s baby,” Maris said, her voice trembling with shock. She answered calmly, “Yes, I did. I shouldn’t have done it, but what choice did I have? The man I loved more than anything was in love with her. This was the best I could do.” I lost control. I grabbed her by the neck, my anger burning like fire. I pressed down hard, and she struggled to pull away. “You are brave to say that in front of me, Betty,” I snapped, squeezing tighter until her face turned purple. “You tried to kill Isabella, and you are still alive!” Maris’s voice trembled as she pleaded, “Asher, if you don’t stop, you will kill her for real!” I shouted, “I don’t care right now! She tried to kill Isabella. She is the reason Isabella is the way she is, and she deserves to die in my hands!” Her eyes widened in fear as she stuttered, “Y-you… I…I have the antidote. Let me go if

Asher’s POV “Are you kidding me?” I mutter in disbelief, my voice edged with shock. “I can’t be the father of that thing,” I add, anger dripping from every syllable as she scoffs. “The thing you speak of is your own flesh and blood, Asher,” she replies, stepping close. “Oh, sorry, Alpha Asher,” she continues with a playful smirk tugging at her lips. I stand there, confusion mounting—what the fuck is happening? How could I possibly be the father of her child? “I know you’re lying, Betty. Just tell me what you want, okay? I don’t have time for this nonsense,” I say, my tone unnervingly composed. “I want nothing more than for you to acknowledge your own child, Alpha,” she declares, her voice turning grave. “Do you need me to remind you about that night? You and I—what you did? Have you forgotten that we had sex? You fucked me, and this is the result,” she taunts, her smile mocking. “You should be happy about this, Asher. You get an heir to your—” “That’s enough! That bastard

Asher’s POV “This is great, Asher. Zachary will finally pay for the crimes he has committed,” Isabella said, her voice laced with excitement. Her eyes sparkled with hope, but I could only muster a small, restrained smile in response. Something felt off. Zachary’s reaction when the eyewitness spoke—it didn’t fit. He hadn’t looked like a man caught in his own lie. He had looked… blindsided. Confused. The more I replayed the moment in my head, the more uneasy I became. Had I made a mistake? Had I been so desperate for justice that I condemned the wrong man? The crowd had begun to disperse, murmurs of satisfaction and relief fading into the evening air. But Maris remained frozen in place. Her face was pale, her hands clenched tightly at her sides as if she were struggling to process everything that had just unfolded. “I think we should leave now, Asher,” Isabella said beside me, but I barely heard her. My gaze was locked on Maris. “She’ll find a way to get her son

Asher’s POV I hated seeing Isabella standing beside him. Her gaze met mine, and all I saw was nothing but pure hatred and disgust. The sight of it only fueled my rage. “Alpha Zachary, you are being questioned over here,” one of the council members snapped, pulling my attention back to them. I hadn’t even heard what they’d been saying before. “What is all this about?” I asked, irritation clear in my voice. “I have never made contact with any human. I don’t even know any humans. So why the hell am I being humiliated in front of everyone?” My tone was sharp, laced with frustration. “Are you certain, Alpha?” one of the council members asked, his voice edged with irritation. “Because we have an eyewitness.” He paused, his expression darkening. “And evidence,” he added, anger creeping into his tone. “You are the reason so many of our kind have died.” My eyes widened. What the fuck is going on? I felt completely lost. “Oh,” I scoffed, letting out a bitter laugh. “I see what thi

Zachary’s POV “What do you mean you can’t find her?!” I roared, my anger surging as I hurled a vase across the room. It shattered against the wall, a jagged shard slicing across his face. He flinched but didn’t dare wipe the blood trickling down his cheek. I didn’t care. “I gave you one task—one—and you’ve failed over and over again,” I seethed, my voice dripping with fury. The man trembled before me, his body shaking with fear. “A-Alpha, I’m sorry,” he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. “I’ve done everything I can. I swear. But I still—still can’t find her.” My jaw clenched, my vision hazy with rage. “You have one day,” I growled, stepping closer, towering over him. “If you come back with nothing—you’re dead.” His eyes widened in pure terror, and he wasted no time bolting out of the room. I exhaled sharply, raking my fingers through my hair, frustration boiling beneath my skin. “Where the fuck are you, Isabella?!” I bellowed, my voice raw with desperation.
