The Tournament (Part 3)
The entire colosseum was filled with inexplicable silence and anticipation as everyone's eyes were transfixed on the two fighters on the stage. On one end was the champion on a winning streak, the one everyone thought would be the obvious winner of the entire challenge. On the other end, though, was a bizarre sight that seemed to have no place on the stage meant for warriors. Donning a disheveled, nearly oversized jacket, and shorts, the... boy... couldn't be said to be an ideal opponent to the tall man who stood a distance from him. This lad, Theo, had just said something absolutely insulting and condescending that caused everyone in the room to gasp. The weak-looming kid, having a defiant expression plastered on his face, had just called the Tall Serpent... weak! “What did you just say, brat?” Sure, it sounded like the immature prattling of a child who knew nothing, but warriors weren't known for their nice and understanding personalities. Even though Zeke Larnard was far from being weak, it was an insult to the countless battles he fought and the pride he felt as a man. 'He said he's not a kid, right?' The warrior's mind rang murderously. Cracking the bones that held up his neck as well as his knuckles, the Tall Serpent began approaching the cheeky boy who didn't know his place. “Then, I suppose we'll just have to find out, won't we? Just how 'weak' I am.” This statement caused the brat, Theo, to smile ruefully. He rolled his eyes, gave a light shrug, and then raised both his hands as though expecting a hug. “Give it your best shot.” “HAAAAAAA?!!” The audience simultaneously sounded in shock. This was indeed too much! Even if the Tall Serpent won, there would be no honor to gain, no pride to restore. This kid was absolutely repulsive. Why was he in such a place meant for only the most seasoned warriors... and why did the guards let him in the first place? “That's it!” Breaking the stifling atmosphere with his growling words, the Tall Serpent quickened his pace and neared the brat at a frightening speed. >WHOOOOOSHHH< Everything else became a blur as the man became a few inches apart from his target in no time. His tensed muscles sought relief, and he was going to pound everything into the brat before him. Theo, he was called. He did say he was not a child, didn't he? As far as Zeke was concerned, that gave him no liability. As a warrior participating in such a match, death was nothing strange. Infact, there was no penalty for killing another challenger. Even then, the entire gladiator ring was chock-full of contestants. That was how incredible the reward—an Object Of Power, was. 'If I kill him now... there's nothing wrong with that!' Looking at the unfazed expression of Theo, even as he drew nearer and brought the devastating fist closer, Zeke Larnard was a bit unhinged. Thoughts like; 'Why isn't he moving' or 'What kind of death wish does this kid have?' rang in his head. Still, he had come too far to back off now. Wondering whether the kid was indeed confident or just foolish, maybe both, the Tall Serpent launched his right fist. This strike would most likely crush the boy's bones and grind them to dust. >VWOOOOMMM!< The arms went, and then the impact connected. >BOOM!< The audience certainly felt the vibration caused by the Tall Serpent's impact and widened their eyes in shock. Dust picked up and the wind howled, swirling across the stage in response to the clash of two people. The blow was faster than most of the warriors could see, but a few had. They followed each motion and saw it cleanly hit the young challenger's head, certain his skull would be broken like fine glass. However… "T-That is...!!!" "W-what—?!" "N-no way..." The sight they witnessed changed their view entirely. The aftermath of the clash didn't end with Theo on the ground, his skull pieces probing out of his head, or splatters of blood across the arena floor. No, it was the opposite actually. This caused the whole spectators to go into a frenzied commotion as they wondered what the heck had just happened. "You... actually withstood that?" Zeke Larnard, the Tall Serpent managed to croak as he also witnessed what should have been impossible. He ignored the noise of the crowd around him and stared right in front, astonishment clearly written all over his face. Taking a few steps backward in recoil to his fist meeting a more sturdy object and also the shock he was now feeling. His target, the little kid that would barely pass as thirteen years, was completely unharmed and unfazed by the destructive blow of his. "Hmm, you held back at the last minute, uh? Why? Well, it wouldn't have made much of a difference, anyway." He had patiently waited for the man to unleash his attack, and what a letdown it was. He knew the Tall Serpent was disappointingly weak, but now that he had experienced how much so he was, Theo was even more irritated. "I told you already... you're weak. This is a waste of time..." Zeke was beyond startled. Sure, he had stopped his hand at the last minute so he wouldn't kill Theo, but only injure him greatly, maybe cause a concussion, but there were still supposed to be some signs of blood or pain from the target. Not only did he get pushed back from recoil, but Theo also didn't even appear to take any damage. "Your time is up. You got your chance." Theo sighed. He drooped his hands and gave a sharp stare at Zeke's flustered expression. "It's my turn now." Never in a million years had Zeke ever imagined that he would be this shaken by the threats made by a child. No, he had to stop thinking like that. For him to have tanked his attack, the proved that this brat was truly no longer a kid, but a fully-fledged warrior. If that was the case, full attention was required. He had to get into stance quickly! Fumbling for a moment in his footwork, the Tall Giant tried to regain composure and keep his eyes on the enemy. Even though he held back, a clean strike to the head would disorient even the most seasoned warriors. If Theo truly felt nothing, that meant he had no choice. 'I have to use it... another of my Ultimate moves.' Zeke's stance was nearly done. Once he had a firm footing on the ground, he would unleash hell on Theo. 'He's not a kid! He is a warrior! I have to use it... I have to use—’ Unfortunately for Zeke Larnard, the boy had grown bored of the whole thing and decided to end things. With a single step, he closed the distance between the both of them and raised one of his hands lightly. Casually drawing it close to Zeke's face, Theo gave his own strike in the form of a hot slap. The Tall Serpent, same as the entire audience of warriors, couldn't even see the 'child's' movement until it was too late. >WHAP!< In an instant, Theo's soft, small hands landed on the warrior's cheeks, sending a loud noise reverberating across the ring. Wind flashed, causing everyone to cringe at the pressure. The neck of the warrior that was hit, before he even realized it, made an entire 360 degrees turn until it faced the front again. Something snapped from within, and in that single strike... the Tall Serpent met his demise. “Looks like it's my win.”Anna's POV The highway stretched endlessly before us so much that I wondered if it would end. The sound of the engine was the only noise we heard as we crossed another nameless border under stolen identities. Dorian kept his hands tight on the wheel, his jaw clenched. There were so many things I wanted to talk to him about but I was content for the moment with watching the road signs blur past, my fingers tapping anxiously against my thigh.Neither of us spoke because we didn’t need to. We both understood what was happening. Our old lives and everything as we had known it were gone. The facility, the experiments, Reinhardt. Everything we had run from was behind us. But the thought of them was hard to let go off.I closed my eyes, but the moment I did, flashes of the lab burned behind my lids. I remembered being trapped on the cold metal table. The scalpel in my hands and the guard’s blood seeping between my fingers.I jolted upright, gasping and saw Dorian hovering above me. "Nigh
[The Next Day]“Good morning, Esteemed Otherworlders. It’s wonderful to see each of you in good health."At that moment, Rey and his classmates stood in the open fields of their training ground. All twenty-eight of them were facing Grandmaster Conrad, who had Brutus and Lucielle to his right and left respectively.Conrad had a calm smile on his face as his long hair swayed gently in the wind.As usual, he was adorned in expensive jewelry and elegant clothing. No one would doubt that this man was royalty."I appreciate your patience and understanding during these trying times," Conrad continued, his voice carrying across the field. "You've faced numerous restrictions, and I am truly grateful for your cooperation."Truthfully, if it hadn’t been for Adonis calming the students down, there would have been a lot more resistance to the actions of the Royal Council. After Adam’s demise, it was clear that there had been a change in the power balance. The desperation of the United Human Allian

Sophia's POV Before I could react, hands grabbed me from behind, yanking me backward. I thrashed around but they were too strong. A sharp sting burst across my skull as someone struck me, my vision blurring with pain."Dorian—" I barely managed before they forced me down.I caught a glimpse of him fighting, moving like a blur—until a taser’s electric crackle filled the air. His body convulsed, muscles locking up as he collapsed.“Dorian!”A thick bag was shoved over my head, muffling my scream. Then—darkness. When I came to, my head throbbed like I’d been hit by a freight train. My body was heavy, sluggish. I tried to move, but resistance met me—straps. Thick, unyielding. My wrists, my ankles, even my torso were pinned to a cold metal table.Panic surged through me. My breath came in ragged gasps as my mind raced. Where was I? Where was Dorian?Footsteps. Slow, deliberate.A shadow passed over me, the dim overhead light shifting. Then, a voice—smooth, practiced, unsettling.“Anna.”
Rey took in a deep breath. He had never been in an actual sale before, but that didn’t stop him from trying his best.Besides, there were a bunch of things he hadn’t done before, but he still managed to scale through them on the first try.‘Fighting monsters is a good example…’Currently, he was walking a fine line.‘I have to be careful.’“The Grade is considerably high, and since this is a wholesale, you should know that I have over a thousand pieces,” Rey finally spoke, his voice clear and his tone confident.“I am well aware, but—”“I am also well aware of your procedures. However, I have mine. And that entails speaking to a higher-up when it comes to business of this scale.”Rey could already see anxiety creep in on the face of the man in glasses. He just had to keep pushing.“We’re talking goods worth hundreds, if not thousands of Platinum Coins. Do you really think you are sufficient to handle such a trade? Will you take full responsibility?”“S-sir, I’m just doing my job…” the
“We’re going on a short break. I’ll be right back!”The way Billy stormed out of the training grounds made it clear that he wasn’t in a great mood. The onlookers could clearly see that Rey, who had been a nobody until now, had managed to get under Billy’s skin merely by using unexpected tactics during their match. The gazes they now directed towards him was one of silent admiration and pride. While they weren’t the ones who won, it still felt good!********‘So many eyes are on me…’Rey was currently lying on the grassy plains, his eyes tightly shut as he enjoyed the fresh air and nice weather. He didn’t particularly like the attention that was being showered on him, yet he understood it was unavoidable.‘This is the price for standing out…’However, Rey was certain that even if he had lost to Billy, he would still have attracted a ton of attention—though not for positive reasons. He would have been pitied and seen as weak prey.‘I don’t want that. Just because I prefer not to stand o
"Good morning, everyone! Sir Brutus won’t be here today, so I’ll lead your Martial Arts Class instead.”The shock written on everyone’s face as they stared at the person speaking was priceless. No one could have anticipated this outcome, leaving them all staring in wide-eyed surprise.“Adonis is busy with the Alpha Group, so I guess you’ll have to settle for me.” The one who said this, with a bright smile on his excited face, was none other than Billy McGuire. Both Head Warrior Brutus and Grand Mage Lucielle would be away for the next few days, and there was no one left to teach the students, so they had to teach each other.Initially, when this was announced, everyone assumed that training would be put on hold until their teachers returned. How wrong they were…“This has to be a joke, right? Why are you the one teaching us? You’re practically one of us!”As expected, Adam flared up in rage.It was as if he had been waiting for a moment like this where his anger would be justified.
“G-GERUK!”In Hobgoblin tongue, that meant “Monster!”As the Hobgoblin Chief absorbed the reality of his people's deaths, that word kept playing in his mind over and over again.Dozens of Hobgoblins were slayed in a single moment, and the voice of their killer echoed in depraved laughter as he inflicted an unjust punishment.Just what… what did he and his people do to deserve this?!For the seven months that he had been the Chief of the Hobgoblins, they had enjoyed nothing but peace and prosperity. The Chief had eagerly looked forward to the day when he could relinquish his duties and join his ancestors in the earth. It seemed that day would arrive within a month or two, and he had been anticipating it happily.Yet, this had to happen in his lifetime? During his rulership? Why?!The ancient fables of the Hobgoblin society told of a time when they were the prey of the NightWolves, but thanks to the leadership of the great KoKuKa, the Hob Chief at the time, they were able to turn the
“Sir! It’s such a pleasant surprise to see you!” Rey was instantly greeted by a very excited Aldred Winsley. The man was grinning sheepishly at him. He seemed almost starstruck, like a fan meeting their favorite celebrity for the first time.‘He’s literally gushing…’ was Rey’s impression as he nodded slightly, entering the room.‘I was just asking your subordinate here when we might see you next.’Rey glanced at Noah and noticed him giving an uncomfortable smile.‘Were they pressuring him to convince me to come? Is that why he took so long?’It was just a guess, so Rey dismissed it.“In any case, it really is good to have you here. We have a lot to discuss.”Taking a seat on the sofa, Rey observed as Noah quickly positioned himself behind him.‘Good. He knows how to keep appearances without me needing to tell him…’ Rey felt relieved.Noah seemed to be able to handle himself in business now, but sometimes he was still an indecisive klutz.Like now, when he allowed his time to be delay
